Now, I don’t mind a paint by the numbers sports anime. In fact, it’s a pretty decent way to spend a few hours in an afternoon. Plot wise; this is very by the numbers and actually it’s very competent. So, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the most acclaimed anime of all time and has plenty of dedicated fans. Unfortunately, if you go in with high expectations, you will only be disappointed. Phantom Blood is an unlikeable start to a series as it fails the three episode test and focuses on unlikeable characters where a pompous narcissist tries to destroy his adoptive brother’s life for literally no reason at all. Suffering through the pain that is Seasons 1 and 2 is ultimately worth it when you get to Book of Circus and Public School Arc. Despite animated frames that obviously look like they were generated by AI, an improvement in animation quality after a six to seven year break from Black Butler helps give the show a much needed visual update. The season on the whole is decent but if you didn’t notice the plot problems, then you’re blind. Weston is so obviously a Hogwarts ripoff, it’s one color away from being a copyright infringement. I was massively shocked at this season. I kept suffering through Seasons One and Two because I kept telling myself that once it got back to the manga canon that it would get better and boy did it ever exceed my expectations. Not only can you skip the first two seasons, because this season gives you all the exposition you need, but it’s also a short concise story and is a good story that gets the story focused and explores the main character in a way that also allows you to have some fun with the season, especially the raid on the Phantomhive Manor sequence.

An utter train wreck from start to finish. Season 2 took the worst aspect of Season 1’s storyline, the narcissism of other supernatural beings, and amplified it. Despite Ciel being an already unlikable character, we are introduced to another even more horrible character to serve as Ciel’s rival; a child so cruel and sadistic for no good reason that he doesn’t make for a very compelling villain. The other villains of the season also have zero justifiable motivations for the utterly baffling heinous acts they commit during the season. A season that can be best summed up in three words; garbage incompetent writing.

Now, I’m no expert on what’s canon relative to the manga and what not, but I’ll try my best. This show is utterly terrible. For starters, this show has the same problem that Rosario Vampire did, in that its animation is 5 years out of date and feels stretched to fit a widescreen format. This show actually came to grow on me quite a bit over the course of its twenty six episode run. Each episode, despite being 24 minutes long, did feel like they were painfully long which did sometimes hamper the enjoyment. And the show is definitely showing its age for being 20 years old so it obviously looks and feels a bit dated. And compressing three years of high school into a 26 episode run is definitely way too rushed but you kind of have to excuse it if you know the background for the manga and airing schedule. This was a bit different than I expected. One the one hand, when this show is good, it’s pretty good. On the other hand, it’s so bogged down by the drama of everything going on that it struggles to hold on to any sort of narrative momentum. The main problem is that the main group Idolish7 is so dysfunctional, that the moment any one’s individual drama comes to the surface, the whole group threatens to implode because most of the members are too focused on their own individual objectives to put the group first, which impart this show hints at the prospect of sex trafficking

I like four panel, slice of life, little 4-panel comedy manga. They are probably my favorite genre as they are perfect to unwind with shows like My Deer Friend Nokotan and A-Channel.
This wasn’t quite up there at that level. It’s mainly an issue with the animation because it’s a weird combination of 2D animation and 3D CGI which is disappointing. But at the end, it’s definitely heart warming and you get to have some fun with it with a couple of dramatic moments thrown in but overall, it’s decent and I would definitely come back for Season 2. This show was flawed from the very start of the premise; a girl who can’t understand emotion with a traumatic past and a guy with attachment issues because of his bad parents. This anime stumbles its way through every episode, including the storyline where it threatens to introduce a love rival in the form of a guy who refuses to respect the boundaries asked of him.
