Mushoku Tensei, the grandfather of Isekais, the one that started it all.
I understand why this show receives so much hate and criticism, the sexualizing of the characters and focusing on ecchi scenes, but that's just looking at it from the surface. Mushoku Tensei at first may look like to you, an average Isekai. Protagonist dies and gets reincarnated into another world, the average Isekai trope except it's the one that started the trend.
(Please note this review is written based on both parts and may contain spoilers)
[#1] Story:
Mushoku Tensei is a story where the protagonist is a NEET and is bullied, he died and got reincarnated
...
into a world of fantasy, including swords and magic. He is then forced to start a new life and adapt to a completely new environment. He then slowly grows up and learns the usage of magic. Since he possesses knowledge from his original world and has been training ever since being an infant, he possesses skills considered extraordinary in that world. Unlike other isekais where the protagonist is overpowered since starting or gets overpowered from one training session, here it is done more realistically. The protagonist has his own struggles which leads him to the start of a new adventure, as well as a disaster. He continues his journey with his allies and learns more about this new world. The worldbuilding, magic system, even the world itself of Mushoku Tensei is very immersive. The six-faced world contanins many continents, language and culture. The extreme detail to worldbuilding is very impressive in this show. In some parts, a whole new language was created just for some episodes which proves the attention to detail. Overall, the story is very immersive and complex but also not too confusing.
Rating: 9, Great
[#2] Art:
Mushoku Tensei is one of the most well animated shows ever, if not the most well animated. The attention to detail to every scene the studio had poured their hearts into really goes to show their passion. The studio which adapted the LN is a newly created collaboration between Studio White Fox and Egg Firm, solely to adapt Mushoku Tensei. This show is pure 2d animated, not a single bit of CGI, maybe in some scenes but not noticeable. The art style is very unique; not as cartoon-ish as modern series. The animation is just extremely smooth and overflowing with style. It's just so good that it makes water look more realistic than it actually is.
Rating: 10, Outstanding
[#3] Sound:
The sound design of this series is great. Changing openings every two or three episodes, still maintaining it's quality. The OSTs in the background fit perfectly along with the scenes where it was played in. The VAs voice acting was top notch, every single word flowing with emotions. The sound design and usage were nicely executed, matching with the surroundings, theme and environment.
Rating: 9, Great
[#4] Character:
The characters of Mushoku Tensei are extremely well-written and well-thought out. Some characters being complex, having deep background. Though most people decide to judge this show from one character; the protagonist Rudeus, who's a pervert since childhood. But even then, as you go on with the series, even characters like him can be likable due to some form of development. Each character of this show, including some side characters have huge character development which makes a great impact on the story overall.
Rating: 9, Great
[#5] Enjoyment:
Mushoku Tensei is an exponentially enjoyable show. It just keeps getting better an better, it fails to disappoint me and I hope it keeps going on like that. This show was enjoyable due to it's interesting premise and the sudden turn of events. Most of this show was quite unpredictable, even though Isekais are pretty easy to predict. Overall, very enjoyable.

— [•] Overall:
Overall, this may be one of the best animes that have ever come to exist, if not the best one. Combining all the aspects above; Story, Art, Sound, Character and Enjoyment, Mushoku Tensei is an extremely well crafted show which in my opinion, deserves even the slightest bit of praise. Instead of looking at it from the surface, the show should be explored deeper and given some thought into. With all that in mind, my final rating for this show is a solid 10/10, a Masterpiece.
