This anime was healing to the heart of an adult who remembers their past as a wallflower after moving states and losing their close friends since kindergarten. Highschool was so hard, especially for a girl in the same shoes as Hachiman. Lost my closest friend to distance, couldn't fit in with the already decided cliques, chose to accept life alone. The walls around someone who is alone yet not lonely are both protecting and hindering. It protects one from sustaining injuries from people who did not have your best interests in mind. Yet it also isolates you from individuals that could empathize with you, and ... nurture a friendly relationship with.

I haven't thought about High School in a while, but this anime makes me feel heard. LLOL such a nerd for saying that but its true (this opinion is 2 bottles in of wine so take it with a grain of salt). If i enjoy it drunk then you will be pleased to hear the inner monologues of an isolated highschooler as they come to understand their position and how they came to be in that position. Maybe love is found along the way? That's too optimistic for this anime's MC, more like understanding or empathy is found along the way.

Again, a good anime for a drunk adult reminiscing on the perks of being a wallflower during their highschool years. I liked reminiscing with this show as a shy kid that no one cared about. the end

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is a slow anime. And not in a bad way. As Ms. Frieren is an elf and is henceforth very long lived, she has done many things during her life. After watching people she cared about grow old and die while she remains the same, Ms. Frieren doesn't see the point in getting to know other people anymore. "Why does it matter?" is a question she asked the Hero Himmel any time he coaxed her to speak with the people they help along their journey. Himmel understood that the Hero's party was a once in a lifetime event for himself and ... the other party members, including Frieren. He took the time to help the locals and leave traces of his impact for generations to come. Frieren thought he was conceited at first, too full of himself, commissioning statues to be made in his honor. But as the current journey continues as the new party retraces the Hero's party's journey, Frieren experiences the impact her party had on the villages they traveled through in the past, even over generations.

I usually fly through shows but since I'm watching this one as it's released, I've come to a realization. One of the overarching themes present even in the structure of the episodes is to slow down and enjoy the journey. The characters don't make significant progress each episode. We watch them through all the moments of their journey, even if one plot event takes 3 -5 episodes to complete. I can think of a few animes that drag out the fight scenes (black clover sometimes), but I havent found myself bored during any point of this show whether it's main plot fighting or the adventure to get there. Frieren also shares an intense feeling of nostalgia with the viewer as she reflects on the hero's journey with a changed perspective 80 years later. Man it made me cry at times, the feeling of understanding the minute details of your comrade only too late and a longing to relive those moments with what you understand now.

This anime teaches the main character and the viewer to slow down and enjoy the journey, to take in the beautiful world around you. And the art in this show makes it totally worth every frame <3
