the first episode was excellent. it's not often i feel so strongly about a piece of media, especially when it comes to anime, but oshi no ko opens up brilliantly with a feature-length episode definitely worth watching. unfortunately, i feel like things started to fall off after that, and the show instead took the route of an ordinary but decently made highschool drama with some commentary on idol culture here and there.
there's a weird mishmash of the anime trying to be a comedy while also trying to take itself seriously on occasion. it's not terribly done, but i would prefer if the show took itself
...
seriously more often because it definitely shines this way, akane's storyline being a great example and a major high point for the anime. there's also the attempts at 'idol culture critique' which feel a bit half-baked. i never walked away from an episode feeling like my perspective on idol culture had been massively changed. i appreciate the attempt though, and it'll probably be an eye-opener for people who aren't aware of the ugly side of the entertainment industry.
visually i thought it was great. there's a lot of vibrance and appealing colours as well as dark and more subdued tones for the scenes that need it. there are some very love-or-hate characters that can be irritating at times (kana gets on my nerves lol) but for the most part everyone is likeable and well-written. music and voice acting is also great, although i expected nothing less from rie takahashi.
due to the series getting a bit too weird for my tastes in a recent manga chapter, i probably won't be checking out the manga or picking this back up when season 2 drops. it was fun while it lasted though, and i think anyone who likes dramas will have a good time with this or at least enjoy the first episode.

it's hard for me to articulate what makes attack on titan so good in just a short review, but i think it's fair to say this has some of the best worldbuilding in any manga ever made. it's complex, full of detail, and has a great story with a nuanced cast of characters. this is far and above one of the most interesting worlds i have ever gotten lost in and, despite its drop in quality, is still definitely worth reading. it's a cultural landmark that is epic, addictive, and excellently put together.
despite this, the aforementioned drop in quality is too glaring to be ignored.
...
without spoiling anything, i personally think the story became way too ambitious and ended up feeling a bit confusing starting with the war for paradis arc all the way to the end. the tight focus the story once had was slowly being lost in favour of big spectacles with a generic hero team story. it's not bad necessarily, but the cracks do show and my interest began to wane as the series went on. there's also the polarising ending which left a lot of readers very underwhelmed, myself included. i can imagine it's difficult to wrap up a story this complex which has been building up for over a decade, but there were definitely better ways of doing it and my opinion of the series has been soured because of it.
one thing i can consistently praise this manga for is its art, which has naturally dated in the older chapters, but the recent chapters look spectacular and it's hard not to be totally enamoured by isayama's illustrations, especially when he gets a chance to show off with massive locations and different titan designs.
it's hard to pinpoint exactly how i feel about attack on titan, but it's far from mediocre and certainly not bad. i think it's a story everyone should try purely for how much cultural significance it holds. its characters have depth, its world is sprawling, and its drawn beautifully. it's just a shame the latter quarter of the story pales a bit in comparison to the rest.

my review for this is admittedly biased considering i love the characters here for their aesthetics more than anything, but even then, i think this is a very good villainess story.
the premise is simple: a university student gets dropped into a dating sim overnight, becoming a villainess who has an almost irredeemable reputation among her family. she's met with all kinds of decisions to make in order to turn her reputation around and gain favourability with the game's love interests, even if it involves the risk of death. it's nothing groundbreaking, but there's a lot of depth to the world and characters and the story
...
is paced just right to keep things interesting even during less eventful chapters.
as i mentioned earlier, i have a big soft spot for the characters. i absolutely adore penelope, she's a great protagonist with a lot of nuance to her character who comfortably fits into the role of a badass villainess. all of the love interests also have their own qualities that make them likeable and unique, although i do feel that some of them aren't as developed as others. as of writing this, the manhwa isn't completed, so i hope there are plans to flesh out these characters in the future. those who have had their time in the spotlight are brilliant though, especially kallisto who is by far my favourite love interest.
story and characters aside, the art is gorgeous. it's consistently good and makes reading the manhwa feel worthwhile just for the pleasure of seeing these beautiful panels and character designs.
i think this is definitely worth reading, it's really easy to get into and will only get better as the world and characters continue to be expanded. i'd easily recommend it to anyone who wants to sink some time into a delightfully drawn, addictive, and fun story.

while i wouldn't call it a near-perfect anime, chainsaw man is certainly not overhyped and i enjoyed it a lot. you can really tell mappa put a lot of care and attention into making this a faithful adaptation bringing new life to its interesting world and story.
characters are flawed, which i like. there are nuances to all of them as opposed to simple, 2D, easy to fall head-over-heels for personalities that i feel a lot of anime tends to be plagued with. the story is also fairly easy to get a hold of and has some killer moments thanks to the devils and their
...
powers.
i have mixed feelings on the animation. i was impressed with it more often than not, but there are moments where i felt it was lacking. it can be dull to look at sometimes, which i wasn't totally bothered by given it's not the type of anime that needs colourful or vibrant visuals (the world here is far from the type), but it can make things look a little plain. again though, the animation impresses far more than it disappoints, and some of the action scenes or visually heavy moments were incredibly well put together.
all of this is supported by a really good soundtrack. each episode has its own ending song, some of which are decent tunes and a few of them have even become favourite songs of mine for the time being. it's hard not to like these credit sequences in general, they're some of the most unique moments of the anime visually and are a nice treat to finish each episode off with.
overall, the show is definitely best suited for a certain target audience and i can see why some may not like it for all manner of reasons, characters and animation style in particular. it's worth a watch though, and while i haven't read the manga beyond the point this season finishes off, i can tell there's going to be a lot of fun source material for mappa to work with.

super fun and cute anime. the animation plays around with a handful of unique styles and the show is supported by some killer songs throughout. the story can be a bit predictable and safe at times, but ultimately it doesn't matter as it's all so much fun to just sit through. i'm very fond of this slice of life style of anime, but i think even people who don't dig it as much will still get a kick out of the surprisingly funny 5-ish hours of bocchi's antics, which is all a joy to watch from start to finish thanks to the great presentation and

humour.
