Are you sad that The Promised Neverland (TPN) was cancelled after Season 1? (it was, trust me). Do you miss the thrill and the mystery? Then maybe you should watch Tengoku Daimakyou (TD). If there's one way to summarize TD in one phrase, it's what you get when you combine TPN S1 with The Last of Us. The viewer dives straight into two parallel stories. On the one side, there's a group of gifted children being raised by robots and scientists in a school, inside a closed facility cut-off from the outside world. That school is seemingly Heaven on Earth... but you know that's too good to be true. On the other side, you've got 20-year-old girl Kiruko and 15-year-old boy Maru travelling across a post-apocalyptic Japan, where man-eating monsters called "hirukos" roam. They're looking for a place Maru needs to be taken to, of which the only thing they know is that it's called "Heaven". Unlike TPN, the viewer isn't immediately nor overtly told what's really going on in the facility. You get clues throughout the series, but it's up to you to figure it out. Similarly, you find out about Kiruko and Maru's background and mission, as well of what was the apocalyptic event, through bits and pieces. Both stories are connected, but the pleasure of finding out how is yours. In a hellish anime scene full of excessive exposition that often ruins a good mystery story, TD is a heaven for fine "show, don't tell" storytelling. The characters are great, Maru and Kiruko have an excellent chemistry, there's a fine blend of mystery, action and comedy, the animation and musical score are gorgeous and the story develops in a trully rewarding way for the attentive viewer. Beware: there is sexual violence.

If you like one, you'll definitely like the other. Both are comedies about a terribly over powered psychic doing his best to deal with high school life. Both try to limit the use of their powers, albeit not for the same reason. Heck, they even began airing with less than a month's difference (as well as the mangas). Saiki is an introverted and sarcastic teen who thinks his powers, although useful, have very annoying drawbacks that stop him from either enjoying or suffering life. He just wants to live undisturbed, as normally and unnoticed as possible. Sadly, there are some very wacky and bothersome characters in school who cotinuously get in his way by trying to be his FRIENDS (how dare they!). Kageyama (Mob) is a shy teen who's afraid of losing control of his powers and cause harm to someone. Instead of relying on abilities that, from his point of view, don't make him better or more special than others, he wants to become a better person through effort, like normal people. In this effort, he will befriend many wacky characters, who will encourage him to use his powers. Saiki K. is all about comedy, with 5 minute episodes that throw joke after joke at the viewer. The show is fast-paced and very character-driven, with no overarching story, but a surprising amount of character development for something that's supposed to be just for the laughs. Mob Psycho 100 is heavy in the comedy department, but also incorporates action and a bit of drama. It's mostly story-driven and has an overarching story, though character development is strong too.
