That's what you get when you try to squish 4 ln volumes into 13 episodes. The slow parts — the slice-of-life, the romance and the character drama — were good, though messy sometimes. The problem lies within the "big plot".
While being generic, it somehow still doesn't make sense. The twists are hard to follow and the hype/drama moments completely miss and come out laughable since it takes literally 2 minutes of screen time between a character making an epic entry to the scene and being dispatched. The author tries to pull Kundега Milan with destructuring of what "love" is, but it all falls short. The art is
good, there're some experiments with paneling towards later chapters, but nothing special here either. The regular high-school cringe is here and it's weak and cringey. Two last chapters offer a nice change in tone, but look a bit out-of-place or even "visual novell-ish" in terms of how The Scene was integrated into what and how was happening prior to that. Overall it's a nice one-read manga, but nothing to be remembered about, unlike domekano or citrus. I've personally expected a bit more. Dec 11, 2023

Monogatari series were a great example of how to properly adapt a wall of text into degenerative cartoons. While still being "tell, don't show" — like a text — it made up for it with awesome background, awesome music and just the right amount of artsy shit like the slideshow, the camera angles, the architecture of protag's bathroom.
Kizumonogatari grabs this well-working formula and throws it out of the window.
