I had manageable expectations, none were met in this movie. Even my love for Ghibli films is not enough to lie—it sucks, that's the truth.
PLOT - Almost nonexistent. You know those small cloth scraps from old clothes? Get a few pieces of those from various fabrics and sew it together creatively; there's a high possibility that yours would be better than this film's. There are numerous old ghibli references that has no meaning to the film (even familiar frame compositions from these predecessors), does it add anything to the plot? No. Again, it is almost nonexistent. Where is this going and why is the exposition
...
stupidly dull and long?
CHARACTERS - I don't care about these characters. I do not hate them, I only felt indifference. Mahito, the protagonist, has no personality and his connections to the other characters were meh. None of his relationship with the other characters were properly built. Him being friends with the Heron; him caring about the grannies; him being appreciative of Kiriko; him being accepting of his grand uncle; him being a loving son to his stepmom/aunt; and him being devastated about his mom's death were all either sudden or not even explored. Also, his father married his first wife's sister—already expecting a second child with her while his son is still mourning for his dead mom. And everyone is okay with that? Not even a nuanced scene of the emotional turmoil and trauma from this boy because it's almost funny that he was initially reluctant (I thought he was angry about his mom being replaced) but then his aunt went missing and now he weirdly cares suddenly. When he found his "aunt" what he found is a new "mom." If this movie wants to show grief, they sure didn't commit to it. I'll give them credit though, there are sprinkled "nuance" of Mahito's grief but never in its full heart breaking view.
PRODUCTION - The only saving grace of this film. Art was great but the character designs were so-so. They all look like the typical ghibli characters, the boring kind for closely resembling other ghibli characters. There are also some amazing key frames like Himiko's fire death and that scene when they got out of the tower. Lots of it were forgetabnle though. Animation is obviously good, ghibli didn't fail this area. The music ... didn't set the mood properly. A huge chunk of the film's beginning were silent and when background music finally played, all I could think of was, "this is a good piece, but doesn't fit the scene/film."

The animation for this series never missed and so is the amount of love I feel for Anne, Challe, and Mythril.
They are all lovely characters who doesn't feel like caricatures. Anne, the protagonist, was too kind to a fault (sometimes it annoys me because I want her to just snap at someone) but it is her very kindness be which allowed me to stay endeared. Challe Fen Challe, on the other hand, has a quiet character with subtle character development that is not forced.
The series gives a feel comfort BUT the antagonists are definitely one of the best I encountered this anime season. The frustration,
...
anger, and hate I feel towards Jonas, Sammy, and Bridget are far too complex for me to explain. I have encountered people like these three evil characters—thank god I'm not as kind as Anne or as patient as Challe.

People can say whatever they want to say but this series is a gem. It's my guilty pleasure and it gives me a lot of joy everytime I read updates.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MATURE AND SERIOUS SERIES, THIS IS NOT IT.
But if you just want something that will make you laugh and make you forget about your problems, this might help.
SPOILERS(?)
Story and characters - light and very few conflicts since said "conflicts" are only due to misunderstandings. This is one of the story where miscommunication between characters are well justified and endearing. It also causes a lot of laughs. The comedy comes naturally
...
because ALL of the characters are weird. The simplistic writing style also helps in a way that readera are fully aware of the event even though the characters especially the two MCs are not.
I went through the series without reading the synopsis and was pleasantly surprised about the first twist — that Tomori is a cross dressing guy and heir of a yakuza family.
By the ending, although I wish for the author to publish extra chapters, my only frustration is that Tomori and Takuma didn't realize that they are both gay (especially Takuma). But that's just my preference, this is technically NOT YAOI.
Art style - No contest this, all pages are consistently beautiful. I've sabed a lot of photos because some pages are even majestic.
THIS IS COMEDY and if you decided to pick it up, I hope you expect it as such.

I would have rated this film higher if I have not read the original source material because everything in this adaptaion is stunning—from the music, production, and character design. What's appalling is the direction of the film, the characters' arc, and the whole plot.
The whole adaptation was a huge dissapointment from the LN but the main series, at the very least, is tolerable. I took my time watching the film because I knew that the changes in the plot would not suit me well. When I finally gave it a chance, it left a bad taste to the mouth because 1.) the emotional scenes were
...
shoved to your mouth and 2.) they already butchered Violet's character arc in the series but they fcked up even anime!Violet's journey and growth in this movie.
Even in this last film, I was looking forward about the cute dynamics between the peeps from the CH postal but they didn't deliver. Their interactions felt force and unnatural, it was a great disservice to the original source because the CH postal in the LN is definitely one of the best found family I encountered as of late.
Both Violet and Gilbert didn't have a good character development and even the smallest amount of character development they gave Violet from the series was lost because of this film.
I bet though, that if you love stunning animation, emotional music, and tear jerking scenes shoved on your throat, you'd probably give this an 8 or even 10.
At the end of the film, all I could think about was pedo Gilbert inflicting more emotional baggage for young Violet as the latter has already chosen to stay at Ecart and take care of poor old Gilbert.
(The original source that actually took its time developing Gilbert and Violet's own characters and relationship will not make you feel this way so I guess, if we quite share this view, you might want to try reading the LN. Also, not to be mean, characters like Iris and Erica doesn't add anything to the story at all. These two characters replaced MORE amazing characters from the LN and I'm still pissed off about it.)

I'm a Science teacher and though a lot of concepts are farfetched, bits of facts are incorporated and that's what enamored me to finish it. It was an overall good journey and the story is not only fresh, it is also superb.
The ending though ... I can understand the choices with the previous arcs but the last arc, just doesn't sit right with me. It's kinda underwhelming.
Overall though, it's a solid series. I even ask my HS students to watch a few episodes and discuss what real science and fiction.

A few points:
- Ryusui is a gem.
- Most characters did not have much character development but it still fits with the storyline, I think. Since I feel like technically, Senku is the MC while THE WORLD AND ITS PEOPLE are all supporting characters.
- The progression and pacing is good for me too.
THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS SERIES (FOR ME) IS THAT IT ENDED AT THE RIGHT PART. UNLIKE MANY SHOUNEN THAT CONTINUES TO MILK THE SERIES TO THE POINT OF RIDICULLOUSNESS. IT WAS THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF DOPAMINE LOLOLOLOL

The adaptation sucks so please give the manga a chance. Only a little ounce of justice was given to the source material because while it is well-written, stunning, and complex, the anime adaptation fails in comparison. The characters were very complicated and deep but in the anime, most of them just come off as unlikeable. My main issue was the pacing though—if you watch the anime without any prior idea from the manga, I'm sure you wouldn't enjoy it because some important scenes and storybuilding are missing. You'd be confused. I still plan to finish the series though (because I love the manga so much
...
I'm willing to support this atrocity).

This is a friends to lovers trope that is done right ig
Animation is so-so but still very pleasing to the eyes; music and sfx are also in-tuned with the vibes of the series. The jokes—the humor comes naturally unlike many comedy genre series.
There are plenty isekai series out there but I think what sets this aoart from others is its different approach to character dynamics and depth. So far the characters are not only likeable, they are also interesting and very funny.
I love a good laugh when I see one and this is definitely one of those anime that we do not take seriously
...
but is good enough to make us forget about our stress.

The moment I finished the first episode, I knew that this was going to be added to my list of comfort animes.
I'm an introvert who very much gets joy at being alone. I don't hate people but I don't want anything to do with them and yet, I still wanted to learn more and experience more.
What made me love this anime was the sheer joy of seeing Subaru moving forward and appreciating more what he have in his life and it all it took was when Haru came to his life.
Subaru learned how to take care of himself more after learning how to take care
...
of Haru.
The story is heartwarming and deep and it was further elevated with the good music and the amazing art.
As for the characters, all of them are amazing. Their dynamics and interactions are natural.
Haru is a gem.

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS:
In storytelling, you show NOT tell.
I have dropped this for three reasons:
1. Matty is often explaining what the heck is going on. The amount of his screentime was just him explaining his plans, his powers, and his goals. It was also the same for other characters around him who often has to comment how surprisingly strong ang amazing he was. To be honest, it felt like Matty was a storyteller—you have to listen to him and not watch him grow. Does that even make sense?
2. Everything was handed to Matty as soon as he shows his talent. By episode 3, he was
...
already recognized not only by the school head but the king himself. The adults around immediately gave him responsibilities even though he's still a child. And, yeah, he's a powerful magician who was reborn to the future but it just doesn't make sense for him to easily receive everyone's high regard without showing more and without experiencing enough difficulties.
3. Everything is happening TOO fast. One episode is good for one season if they fleshed it out.
Animation is good but other areas are stale.
If you're after a charming character in a story with good plot and storytelling, it's likely that you won't find it here.

CONTAINS SPOILER
The only good thing going on for this series is its animation and I only managed to finish it out of spite due to the fact that I had high expectations after I read some early reviews. Those were really great reviews and feedbacks; if it was a business, I'm 100% sure I've been scammed.
But again, I did finish it, because I cant lose against a bland series. It helped me improved my concentration and patience too so there's that.
Let me just say it unfiltered: Even though Takt op. Destiny is "supposedly" centered around music, the choices are still bland and boring.
The
...
characters has no chemistry except for the VERY brief interactions of real Cossette and Takt on episode 2. I fail to see the connection and depth of bond between the characters' relationship:
1. It is unbelievable, as if it was added as an afterthought, that Lenny was Takt's "teacher-figure". Takt has been rude to him with his very ~mysterious~ "I'm a cool kid who only speaks few words" responses.
2. I don't know what's going on with Takt's head honestly. What are his motivations? He has one but I can't be sure because it's not properly presented. Who are his important people? I'm not sure about that too—even with Ume and Anna, he always had his "I'm too cool for this" attitude. Like, yes, I'm thankful for you two but no, I'm not gonna show it.
3. Ume has a GREAT CHARACTER DESIGN but she is boring.
4. Anna IS almost nonexistent. For episodes 1-10, she is unimportant except for her big sister energy but she didn't add anything palatable to the plot. You can remove her and nothing will change and YET she is suddenly VERY IMPORTANT on ep. 11 and 12. I had to pause when she suddenly kissed Takt. I didn't saw that coming. Her feelings for Takt were not nuanced and they absolutely failed to build their relationship hence my surprise. I do not hate Anna (the only character I dislike very much was Takt) but they could have built that up. They could have showed us PROPERLY that Anna has romantic feelings for Takt. It was very funny that after the *plot twist* Anna is suddenly the most important character next to Takt. Why would I care for Anna if I am not given enough reasons to root for her though? Her character for me wouldn't be ruined if what she fully felt was platonic/familial love because that's what fitting for what they have built (done to her character) in eps.1-10.
5. Takt is an unlikeable protagonist for me. His motivations are not only vague, it is also all over the place. If that makes sense.
6. They are forgettable.
7. Why is Takt even the protagonist?
8. Takt is an awful character whose whole personality is just him being indecisive at plenty of things while being mean and unappreciative of the people around him. Takt is a touch of "Oh, yes, I played piano for common folks because I'm a genius and everyone needs music in their lives so I'm giving it to them." and a sprinkle of "Hm. Let's just kill myself and be everyone's hero because this is the last ep. and I didn't do many 'protagonist-like' thingies in the previous eps."
9. Takt and Ume's relationship is bland as water. Not deep but the ending tried to make me believe that there is something very captivating about it. It didn't work.
10. The villains are as good as the villains in my 8 y/o nephew's 5-minute crafted imaginative short story.
The plot is meh. It made me laugh when Takt suddenly decided that he's going to make a composition—A MASTERPIECE pfft— and my initial thought was, "So you remembered that you're THE musical genius, huh?" There are a lot of areas that was not explored. To name a few: the actual origin of D2 and the power they hold, the connection between Cossette and Ume, the impact of Takt's father to their current society (because there is honestly no proper exposition about what happened in Boston prior the story), the society itself, the last villain maestro whatever you call him's motivation plus his two musicarts whose character designs are wasted. And before anyone comes for me, yes, I know that this anime is a promotional series to a game but does it have to be this bad? Hm? I thought promotions are done for visibility and so that a piece of media can gain a lot of following ... but I fail to see any merit from this series. I'm not alone in feeling this so I'm sure that this 'promotional anime series' did nothing to catch my interest to play the game.
If you love it, good for you though. I'm confused about your anime preference but I respect it.
1/10 for Takt op. Destiny and 1/10 for me too for hoping that it will pick up by the 3rd ep. Should have known that I will waste my time the moment I joked about them using earphones/headsets. For some reason, those weren't invented in this universe but big sister in a wheelchair I forgot her name (I'm sorry) has very hi-tech devices that can monitor Takt's life span or something.
