They are both romance anime involving vampires. However, Karin is more of a light-hearted romantic comedy while Vampire Knight is dark and serious. Both involve the hope that humans and vampires will one day be able to co-exist peacefully.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

- They are both dark deconstructions of anime genres that are typically aimed at a younger audience (magical girl for Madoka and mecha for Evangelion) - There is occasional surrealism (though in the case of Evangelion, it's not so much 'surrealism' as it is 'mind screw') - They are both hugely popular cult classics among anime fans - Both contain heavy psychological themes

Chirin no Suzu

A lamb whose mother is killed by a wolf later befriends a wolf. Both revolve around their relationships. However, Arashi no Yoru ni is much more light-hearted and family-friendly than Chirin no Suzu. Chirin is darker and more mature, not really one for the kiddies.

A normal boy moves house and settles in fairly easily, only to later discover that -his new home (and friends) harbour dark secrets. Both are very eerie and tense throughout, and they both contain plenty of horror violence. While I was watching Another, the entire time I kept thinking 'this is so similar to Higurashi'.
