Okay. I never thought I'd actually write a review, but this anime genuinely annoyed me with how bad it was; I love psychological horror, I love gore, and I genuinely thought that an anime with these kinds of themes would be impossible for me to hate. How wrong I was.
For starters, the story seems to be set up in the opening episodes... and then spend the rest of the series ignoring any idea of a coherent story, and just as it seems they're going to actually go along with an interesting plot, it jumps around and ends up in a completely random place next episode.
Carrying
...
on with this, even though it has been cut down from its original concept of 23 minute episodes down to around 4 minutes, it still can't find anything to really do except repeat the same content over and over, despite having such little time to fill.
The characters don't really have any development, and what little they do seem to have, is rushed and not properly explained. That's not even considering the characters that look as if they're going to play major roles, and then are just never heard from again for no reason.
The simple, base elements of the story are poor as well; all they'd have to do to give it some interest was to keep the blood and gore as it was, but it seems that if it wants to fail, it'll go all the way. The gore is either censored to hell by being blacked out, or shown from angles so they can hide it, which only serves to rob the viewer of the ability to just enjoy it for pure gore value.
The only positive qualities of the anime were the opening title song, which I thought was pretty catchy, and the art style, which I enjoyed. However, the opening title theme cannot come close to redeeming the anime, and the art style was hindered when most of the graphic scenes were predominantly blacked out.
Overall, especially compared to the excitement I felt from reading the synopsis before watching, the anime is a huge disappointment for me. I had absolutely no enjoyment while watching it crumble and fall apart as it went on, nor do I hope that anyone makes anything remotely as bad as this in the psychological horror genre again; if it was any other genre, I'd probably find how bad it was amusing, but I can't forgive it for trying to fit into the horror genre. I never wish to watch it again, and the only use it has served me is to make already great existing psychological horror anime seem even better by comparison.
