Y'all ever seen the Eric Andre Show? It's like that but anime.

It's hard to translate a 4koma into a fully animated feature, its even harder when the 4koma has absolutely no obligation to have any sort of continuity or storyline. Pop Team Epic is what happens when you try to take Vines and internet skits and stretch it into a full 25 min time slot. The timing is incredibly fast past, barely giving the viewer any time to think or react to the scenes occurring. The humor is very Japanese, relying hard on what is assumed to be common background knowledge on common TV ... and movie tropes.

Nothing in this show is to be taken seriously and the show seems to be under no obligation to even explain itself. The best bits are the longer ones, with a set up and pay off. The more polarizing parts are going to be the parts that often rely on wordplay or surrealism to be funny. Some don't even have jokes, with the lack of a punchline being the punchline itself. Bob Team Epic parts are the worst.

This is not something you should binge watch, you'll get an aneurysm. The episodes are divided into two parts, one with mostly female voice actors and the other with male voice actors. Maybe the voice actors are from famous shows and that's why they don't seem to have the same one twice, but I wouldn't know.

There are legitimately funny and humorous moments, like the Earth Wind and Fire parody, and the more traditional comedy skits. But if you're looking for a classic comedy you can sit down and watch after a long day, this is the wrong place.

This show gets better. The first few episodes were rough, but once it gets to about the 4 or 5th episode, it really starts to get into it's stride. Stick with it, it does get better.

Sure. there are funny moments, but for the most part, they're pretty spaced out between the more serious one.

The pitch behind this is "what if purgatory was a high school, for kids that died to soon".

There are some flaws with the show, I'll admit that. They don't focus enough on the characters and their backgrounds. They have trouble explaining how certain elements of the universe work. like the creation of guns, and the influence of God on this world.

But something Angle Beats gets down without any issue is the emotional aspect ... of the story. Dealing with loss and grief, coming to terms with death (your own in this case), the constant struggle between an uncaring God and a soul that refuses to give up.

Each of the characters is a broken, blubbering mess of a teenager that went through to much too soon, and that never reached their full potential in their lives. They only pretend to be okay.

The show show accelerates after about episode 5 from a strange fantasy show to a emotionally devastating ride of the importance of accepting what you cannot change.

"Dying isn't so bad, we do it all the time"

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is funny, smart, witty, an excellent parody of the romance genre and has some of the best most memorable characters I've seen in anime.

The way it lampoons common romance tropes, just to emphasize the ridiculousness of the situation is spot on.

Nozaki is dead-pan, dense, and doesn't have a romantic bone in his body, which is perfect contrast to the fact he makes shoujo romance manga.

As you follow the experience of Chiyo attempting to court him, you'll meet all of the characters surrounding their lives, and I'm certain you will love every single one of them.

Funny funny show.

K-on is a joy to watch.

This is candy in anime form, sweet, lighthearted and inconsequential.

The sound and art design in the series is fantastic, with excellent camera work.

But I think where this excels is in the relationships between the characters. Everything they do together is believable and you really feel like you're getting an insight onto the friendship between these girls.

Some might say there's not a good enough storyline, but I don't think an overarching plot is important in this case. This is a slice-of-life, its supposed to focus on characters and how they interact, not deal with major morals and ... life choices.

K-on! is a cute and beautiful show about high school girls being high school girls. I think it's Kyoto Animations best work and some of the finest in the genre.

If you enjoy slice of life, you will enjoy k-on.
