This is my 3rd review on MAL. I have to start by saying that I generally do not write reviews, unless something left a deep impression on me. For this anime, I will tell you how I felt as I watched the episodes one after the other.
After I read the title of the anime, I was thinking "Ok, here we go, another anime with one of those weird long names". I read the plot a bit and thought, "Well, I will just give it a shot and see how it goes..."
After I watched the first episode,
...
I thought "Yes, as I thought, this is one of those romance shows between a high-school girl and a salaryman". Is there anything new or different in this? And I was not very interested at this point either. The one and only reason why I thought of watching the second episode was the "drama" genre mentioned in the anime.
And then it happened.
As I watched every episode, I felt like I was on an emotional roller-coaster. One moment I felt utter joy, while there were very depressing times that complimented it. And that is completely justified with the drama genre. Let me try to explain without spoiling anything from the story.
This masterpiece of an anime shows us both the sides of humanity. On one hand, we realize how harsh, torturous, and selfish creatures we are... that most of us never even think of helping any other person or living being without thinking what we can get in return. We only jump to help if we know that we will get something in return. The show also talks about other ill-aspects of the society including bullying, blame-game, and others. On the other side of this, the anime also shows us that not all hope is lost in humanity yet. There are instances, even though rare, when we see someone stopping his/her car and helping an old lady cross the road without worrying that he/she will be late for work. I do not want to portray myself as a saint, but I always try to help people as much as possible. I would always help someone first without thinking if I should have or should have not invested my time. As I said before, I do not want to brag about this, but seeing these relatable moments in this anime, made me feel so good. Selflessly helping anyone in need is such an act of kindness and love, that even though these acts are in the minority, you cant help but feel that the faith in humanity is restored due to the presence of these individuals.
Anyway, enough emotional rambling from my side. Let me get to the scores. >.<
Story: 8
I always feel like no story is a perfect story. So I generally I rate the best stories as 9 out of 10. Here, the story and how it connected to the main theme of the anime was really well shown. I felt that there could have been couple of moments where the story could have been enhanced a bit, but otherwise, its great overall.
Art: 9
The art is splendid. I found some bad animation and drawing in one or two frames in the entire anime, and that's why I am giving a 9. Otherwise, the art as I said is very very good. You will see that the artists use proper art, lighting, and visual effects as and when needed in scenes. For example, scenes beneath starry skies have a splendid soothing effect where characters are having a philosophical time about their pasts, the present life, and how things would be in the future.
Character, Sound, Enjoyment: 10
Yes, everything else I had to rate 10 each. Character is well portrayed. There are characters you will not like of course, but just try to put yourself in their shoes once and think about it from their perspective. Well, may be it won't be possible for some characters, but I will not go into details as I promised before, I won't spoil anything. The sound is soooo soothing and pleasant. There is not a single moment where they over-used sound effects or applied lot of music. They gracefully accompanied each and every scene with the perfect melodies in piano or bells and that freaking worked. As for enjoyment, well, I guess you could already tell by now that I really really enjoyed it.
So, overall, I was thinking of rating it a 10 due to all the random below-average anime I was watching for the past few weeks. However, I will restraint myself and give it a 9 as I said before, its not a perfect anime and could use some improvements in the story side, but I am sure after watching it, you will feel somewhat better.
Again, before I end this review, there probably will be many people who rate this anime very low. And I do not blame them at all. It all depends on your perspective of the anime and what you like personally maybe. So, dear reader, I would definitely ask you to read as many reviews as possible, because that will give you different perspectives of this anime; maybe even something that I did not notice. :)
I hope this review helps you. I can only suggest you to watch this anime and give it a shot, because end of the day, only you can decide if you like something or do not like it. Take care!

Warning: I will not discuss anything regarding the story here, still there might be some spoilers ahead.
It's very rare for me to write a review, unless it leaves a mark on me. What can I say about Maison Ikkoku? It is hands-down THE BEST work of art by Rumiko Takahashi. You may have come across some her other works like Inu Yasha and Ranma 1/2, and no doubt they are really great works of art themselves. However, Maison Ikkoku is something on a different level. After watching the entire series, you may find it surprising that this is the same person who created an action-romance title ... Feb 5, 2017

I was not so into Manhwa titles before and I just started going through Manhwa with Noblesse and Girls of the Wild's (GotW). This really pulled me into it. The more I read, the more it drew me into it. Finished it in 1 day straight.
This is not such a stuff where you expect ecchi content although I was thinking if it is something like that in he beginning. But then slowly started liking this more and more. At times, mainly after the first 200 chapters, I felt the frequency of fights diminished and I could not figure out why was it like that. But, ... |
