Overhyped and Overrated, this show has little of substance to offer. In the first few episodes, the show is a silly slapstick style comedy show that isn't really funny. None of the characters are all that interesting, especially the insurance girls. Even the main character feels really one note in these early stages. Many people of the internet claim that the show gets "dark" and "serious" as it progresses, but this is barely true. The show continues to be incredibly goofy at the worst times. When it does get "serious", the plot feels incredibly shallow and undercooked. For most of the show, the format is
...
like a "monster of the week" show where Vash and the insurance girls go against a new foe, Vash stops being goofy, defeats the foe with his almost godlike skills (which remain unexplained. Why the hell can he just dodge bullets?). The plot through the mid section remains uninteresting and the characters equally so. One of the most underdeveloped aspects of this show is the world building and lore. The show introduces many things that would require a satisfying explanation, such as Vash's extraordinary abilities or the literal nuke of a gun that stems from his arm like a tree, or the bulbs that seem to power the society on the planet. There is ONE episode dedicated to world building, and even that episode barely explains anything about the origins of Vash. This leaves the viewer wanting more, which does not happen. The character motivations are equally unclear. Why is Knives so against humanity, why is Vash such an intense pacifist? The flashback to the spider story with Rem isn't really convincing. It doesn't explain the intensity of the characters' convictions. Furthermore, we are given no clues about the origins of Vash and Knives or even about what they are. Though Vash does become a little bit more fleshed out as the show progresses, his philosophy is incredibly naive and childlike, and there is really no real challenge to it. Even when he kills someone, that person happens to be a genocidal maniac whose death would be a net positive to the world. His anguish towards this villain's death makes no sense, and there is little explanation for him having such a strong reaction to it. The death of a more morally grey character would've been more appropriate for a reaction like the one he had. It would've also challenged his views and caused him to reflect. Vash doesn't really go through any character development in the story and remains as he was in episode 1. Overall, this show isn't really that enjoyable. It felt like a waste of time. You should still watch it if you want the license to convincingly crap on it.

Colorful has a very clear and straightforward message that it presents, which is that life is worth living. Though it doesn't have much to offer in terms of story complexity, it still provides value through its messaging. Colorful is quite boring and slow in many of its parts, though the slow, uneventful way of presenting the story does aid its ability to really convey its core message. The movie can also be hard to watch because of how frustrating the protagonist's actions are. The plot twist near the end was also very predictable. Overall, Colorful is worth a shot, but there is no telling whether

Being one of the few anime that have prompted me to write a review, Paprika is an experience to say the least. Full of mind bending animation sequences, its strong suit is the wildly imaginative scenes and fluid, vibrant animation. In a way it feels like the creators of the movie created it just for the sake of creating these wonderful sequences, and the story was written as a secondary thing. The story is really confusing and really weird. The creators of the movie tried to do several different things at the same time with their different characters, and in the process failed to come
...
up with one consistent and cohesive narrative or theme. The ending is absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical as well.
If you are going into this movie to see a really well written story, this is not it. While they do try to explore some interesting ideas, the execution is half-baked and unsatisfactory. If you are going into this movie to experience the amazing animation, imaginative scenes, and the overall "experience", you will find it quite enjoyable.
Story - 3/10
Art - 10/10
Sound - 10/10
Character - 4/10
Enjoyment - 7/10
Overall - 6/10

To put it lightly, Blue Lock was an absolute displeasure to watch. Every episode bombards you with extremely cringeworthy dialogue, terrible writing, and annoying characters.
Blue Lock's story is essentially non-existent. There isn't a narrative being shown. Each match is just a way to get Isagi to get some stupid boost because he somehow "figured it out" through his observations and thinking. Isagi's ability to copy other players' specialties just makes it so that he's somehow the "best" without really earning it.
Blue Lock's animation is mediocre at best. There are too many stills. The CGI is easily some of the worst I have seen in
...
recent times. I don't see what the people praising the animation are seeing.
As a former football player, the whole idea of "ego" being the focal point of what makes a good striker is unnerving. Every time any of the characters talks about having a very massive "ego", it makes my blood boil. Other extremely cringeworthy concepts include "weapon", "chemical reaction", and "devouring". Each of these terms relate to the writers' childish idea of what football is like. The constant disrespect of other positions is not hard to notice. Blue lock constantly tries to tell the viewer that the striker is somehow the most important role in the game.
Isagi being ranked literally at the bottom at the beginning was a particularly annoying part of the show. It is terribly easy to predict that despite being the lowest ranked, he'll rise to the very top. It's just not very realistic for them to have made such a poor judgement about him. The whole thing just comes off as trying to give the audience some sort of satisfying started from the bottom story, which is just overdone and unrealistic.
Overall, I absolutely do not understand the hype for this show. Different aspects of blue lock range from being mediocre all the way to being unbearable.
