Really?

That's the first word that comes into my mind as I think about this manga. We can see it tagged firstly as a comedy. I mean it tries, it really does. But when I read a comedy, is it so much to ask that I laugh? Maybe if I was high (and I mean REALLY high, like so messed up I smoke the wrong end just for fun) it would be funny. Any other time and....0_0

STORY: Do you remember that piece of bread that fell to the bottom of the pantry that you never bothered to clean up? Remember using it 6 months later to ... cut diamonds? Yeah, the story's that stale. The whole "magic girl" thing has been tried WAY too many times. Sometimes, like in Ah my goddess, it can be pulled off. But no, it falls on its ass and doesn't even try to save face.

ART: Dreadful. Really, it's the worst looking manga to ever grace my computer screen. You know the old saying "If you put a monkey in front of a typewriter it'll eventually write Shakespeare"? Well I think they actually did it. Only they pulled the pages away after the first draft/shit stain. UGLY!!!

CHARACTERS: The main female lead is named Milky for God's sake! WTF!! It's actually a good name for her if you think about it. She's not quite transparent because of all the random attempts at comedy the author tries to use her for, but she's one dimensional. "Milky" all the way through.

As for the other characters, I can't even find a personality. They act erratically and without and kind of...sense. Maybe that's the writer's kind of humor but it sure as hell isn't mine? I don't read manga when I'm baked. Not everything's funny. Deal.

ENJOYMENT: Hmm... maybe I enjoyed it when I stopped reading. Kinda like hitting your toe with a hammer now that you mention it...

Really, there's no redeeming value of any kind to be found in the manga. There isn't a story, the art sucks, the characters are only there to support the author's comedy that only appeals to stoners. Here we have a seinen marital arts manga about a man working his way through the world of karate. As martial arts manga go, this would have to be one of my favorite. The pacing is quick, the characters interesting, and the plot believable. And something about me before I start: I'm a 1st degree black belt in Taekwondo. Now then, onto the review:

Story: As I said, it doesn't stay in one place for too long. When the main character has beef with someone, the conflict is resolved without lingering in one place for 100 chapters (I'm looking at you Bleach!) During the well drawn ... battles, I often find myself screaming at my computer screen, telling the combatants how they should block the attack and or counter. I actually get up and fight the entire battle myself; it's that engrossing. Then someone bangs on my door and tells me to shut the hell up. I click to the next page and the process starts all over again. The manga encourages me to train harder for some reason. Definitely one of the best parts.

Art: I rated it a 7, or "Good". And it is. The artist draws it so you can see every kick, punch, and counter. There's literally one strike per page. I personally love this, but it might be a little too slow if you're not into the fight.

Character: There's a lot of them and they're all interesting in their own way. I find myself rooting for all of them and identifying with their separate struggles in the world of competitive martial arts. There's a touch of romance (straight and gay) between characters. Most of it is for comic relief, which is funny when it comes up. To give you and idea, there's ~1 page of romance or comedy for every 40 of fighting, training, or other plot development.

Enjoyment: My martial arts background definitely contributed to how much I liked it. It's inspirational, funny when it wants to be, and exciting all throughout. Even if you don't enjoy combat yourself, the characters and plot pacing should be enough to keep you interested for the most part.

On a side note: The way the author portrays Americans pisses me off sometimes. We don't like to fight ALL the time! ...Usually.

Here we have a harem manga that starts off with a bit of a twist; I'm not talking about the part where Yamato, the main character, joins a school that until the year before was for just girls. We can all name several that start like that. Unlike the typical harem, Yamoto isn't a goody-two-shoes who's nice to everyone. He's a man. He has a pair. And he isn't afraid to stand up for himself.

So then, on to the review...

Story: 6 -I've already given a little bit of background, so here's the short: the freshness of the series starts to fade after chapter 10 or ... so. Then it's a steady downhill until around chapter 20. After that, the plot sits, spinning in neutral. If you'll let me make an analogy: It revs up on occasion; you hear the engine (plot) getting ready for some action, but it never gets its ass in gear. No matter how much it seems like it's going to go somewhere, it never does. Just like that old woman at the stoplight.

You can literally skip ten or twenty chapters without missing anything significant. The author introduces new girls to tempt the main character, then writes them back out of the story after he gets bored of them. This would be fine, but the author seems to have an attention span of a goldfish. Really, characters are introduced then disappear two chapters later.

Art: 7 -It's pretty good. Not much to complain about, though the scans are small on One Manga. Characters are pretty but backgrounds lack the detail of series like Umi No Misaki.

Character: 7 -Yamato is by far the best one. He's a believable man you can relate to, the key word being MAN, as I said above. He's a boxer; he kicks ass and he knows it. Being a boxer myself, this adds another way I can connect to him.

As for the other characters... Meh. Most aren't too annoying, and as I said, the author writes so erratically that he'll probably make your most hated girl disappear once he's had enough of her, unless it's the main heroine, in which case you're out of luck.

Enjoyment/ Overall: 7 -My advice: read the first twenty chapters. If you like the snail's pace, keep on going. If you want something to actually develop, skip to chapter 81 or 82, where the mystery is explained. For everyone else... click on the Helpful button below. You know you want to.

Gamble Fish is about a boy and his quest for money. Lots of money. But unlike us humans who have to get an actual job and put in actual effort for our money, this 14 year old boy can gamble his way to fortune. This super human talent of his is what keeps you coming back for more.

Story - Pretty basic. The main character, Shirasagi, goes through a series of matches, picking up a new girl when he wins. There's a little bit of his past revealed after each victory, which only seems to spark more questions about where he came from. All of this ... is interesting, but it's during Shirasagi's matches that the manga really shines. The boy's extraordinary skill and intellect is, as I said, super human. But all his tricks and schemes would, in theory, work in real life. This makes it fun to read about the impossible corner he's gotten himself into and wonder to yourself: "How's he going to get out of this one?" Exactly how he does is always revealed after his victory.

Art - Nothing to complain about here. It's sharp, well drawn, and looks like it should. Sometimes the people in the stands look like the little critters in Wii baseball, which is to say it lacks detail. But unless you really study the pages, your eyes will be happy with the art.

Character - The main character is, as I said, brilliant. This mystery surrounding him and his circumstances is slowly being revealed as new chapters are released. The many side characters could definitely benefit from some development, but since there's been only 29 chapters so far, I'm holding back criticism on this one.

Enjoyment - I would pick this up while you wait for new chapters of your favorite manga to come out. Is this going to eclipse your current favorite? Probably not. But you'll find yourself engrossed in Shirasagi's world of professional gambling long enough to forget your want of that next chapter for a while. Go ahead; give it a try. You won't regret it.

Here we have a manga that, in my opinion, has and interesting synopsis: An ordinary guy joins and extraordinary school. Sound fun, right? Well yes, it is fun. But "fun" is not always the same as "good". Let me explain.

Story - Weak at best. It seems like its only there to give an excuse for the massive quantity of soft porn. The obvious focus of the manga is its ecchi content. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: you're reading a battle scene. Beautiful characters unleash fantastic powers, the tension is building, you're starting to get into the action, and then you look ... at the next part... MASSIVE FULL PAGE PANTIE SHOT! It's a real buzz kill that keeps the story watered down and hurts the action.

Art - The best part. The mangaka is a very talented artist and he proves it with every page. The characters are beautiful, the scenery is detailed most of the time, and the character's facial expressions look realistic. Keep in mind that the most commonly drawn figures are a few select parts of the female body. But really, there's nothing to complain about here.

Character - What few changes the characters undergo seems forced. There's way too many people introduced in the beginning that never get any personality. It's actually kind of funny how haphazard the characters feel at times. I mean there's your usual harem stereotypes, but that's all the range you get. Nothing original or creative to be found here.

Enjoyment - I'm actually surprised how much I enjoyed reading this. The ecchi content is good for a lonely night, but the only time when you'd be reading this is when you should be getting some sleep. There's better manga out there than this. If ecchi is all you read manga for, then pick this up. For those of us who read for content, feel free to pass this up. You won't be missing anything.

First and foremost: this is a hentai (aka porn for those who don't know). If you don't like that kind of stuff, click the back button now cause this aint your thing. Now, for those of us who are left:

Story - Do we care? It is porn after all... No but the story is actually pretty fun. The first volume is a series of one shots that doesn't connect to one another in the slightest way. But the second and third volumes have a fairly coherent story: It's a harem that goes pretty light on the comedy. But heavy on the sex. Can't forget about ... that. Speaking of the sex, that IS the main focus of this manga, so sometimes the story has to take one for the team. The team being sex, of course.

Art - It's nice. Art is obviously very important for this kind of material, and the drawer understands that. When I say he understands that, I mean he has his priorities down. There isn't a lot of background detail; instead the detail is where one would expect it. Meaning certain body parts and facial expressions get far more attention than anything else.

Character - Kind of goes along the lines of the story. Light on the character development, heavy on the sex. There really aren't that many cliques to be found, but then again, who really pays attention in a hentai manga? Lots of hot chicks. Do I need to say more?

Enjoyment - Yes. Unlike most of the Japanese porn floating around the net, not too many fetishes are explored in this manga. (I'm not dissing nobody, I'm just saying, some of the things I've seen ...*shudder*. God damn). Back on topic. What I mean when I say no fetishes is no futanari, yaoi, beastiality etc. One will find anal, toys, and 3somes on almost every page, however. But if you're reading this review, I honestly doubt you're bothered by that. =D
