Yesterday wo Utatte is a "slow burner" based around our main characters taking a path in their lives, being it professionally or romantically, setting up things in a much more realistic and serious way than some other slices of life. This is worth giving a try, if you don't mind a rather slow narrative.
At first, the story focuses a lot on our main protagonist, Rikuo, showing some of his backstory and how he got into the situation he's in, which is pretty convincing. As it continues, more characters are introduced to us, such as Haru, Shinako and Rou, then, with most of the
...
cast already set, the show gradually gives more focus towards the relationships between each other and more detail to the drama concerning Rou and Shinako's past. And lastly, but avoiding spoilers, the path each one will take regarding their romantic relationships.
With that said, I'd like to point out some things about the story.
While there's plenty space for the romance, it feels like there isn't much focus on their careers and efforts, such as Rikuo's lack of ambition or Rou's aspiration for fine arts, as they start to fade and become more of a background. As for the romance, it has a slow development and they keep extending it, and there's no problem with that. Yet, at a certain moment, its noticeable a pretty sudden turn in the events surrounding the relationship of all four of them, without any hints for these changes whatsoever.
Aside from the story and its elements of romance, its characters are quite great.
Even though the story may have not explained some of their actions beforehand, I felt like their characteristics and thoughts weren't bad, and quite the opposite, they were rather understandable. That is, most of their expressions and thoughts were somewhat similar to what you would expect from someone real, and wouldn't be odd if you can relate to them while watching the show.
Still, it's up to you want to watch it or not. And I hope the review helped to decide.

An entertaining isekai, based around an otome game, with a rather simple narrative.
Although the romance/harem side of the show doesn't really progress, if you came for the comedy, you are here for a ride.
The story about our otaku main protagonist in school, who one day awakes as a small Katarina Claes, the villainess of a dating game, and decides to avoid all her doom flags, quickly becomes a show about "How dense can Bakarina possibly be?". That is, most of the comedy comes out of our protagonist spending so much of her time monologuing, which is represented by a council of Katarinas arguing in
...
her head, that she doesn't even notice how much all of her friends, and I really mean "all of them", want to be in a romance with her.
With that said, you shouldn't expect many school elements nor a well developed romance. Mostly because of the comedy, but don't get me wrong, even though the comedy overshadows most of the other characteristics of this show, it's really fun and entertaining to watch both her childhood and her teens as the show progresses.
About the characters, even without much of a depth added to them, I would say that they do their job pretty well.
It's pretty simple, the characters close to Katarina have a different personality from one another, which leads them to different kinds of approach towards our main heroine, being it romantic or not, as it's the case for Bakarina's maid, for example. You might find them a bit cliche, but, as I said, if you came for the comedy, there's no need to worry about it.
All things considered, it's a really fun and entertaining comedy, with character fitting in their roles to the genre, but there isn't anything that stands out.
Yet, if you don't know whether to watch it or not, I'd still encourage you to watch this anime. I hope this review helped you. ^^

A lighthearted comedy with a good story.
By all means, give this anime a try! (tl;dr at the bottom)
Starting off, one huge upside of this show that really gets the viewer is the story's foreshadowing, it really makes a big difference in Kakushigoto's story. Since the start of the first episode, it's introduced to us a different perspective from the normal daily life that Gotou and Hime have in most part of the series, and, of course, these foreshadowings will continue through the whole anime until the very last episode.
Now, what's the biggest downside? (But don't get me wrong, that's the only one I can think
...
of)
For what you might notice, the details around Kakushi Gotou and Hime's family leave nothing to be desired, and that's great, but sometimes that's not the case. To make it clearer, but also trying my best to keep any spoilers away, it's normal that some characters will have more screen time than others, meaning that you may find them in different scenarios and even taking different actions, possibily making them more charismatic towards the audience, but getting straight to the point, there's no excuse to why a side-character should always be used to the same reason, which is somewhat present in the show. Nevertheless, they're neither upsetting nor useless, but they don't really add much to the story or the comedy.
Bigger upsides and downsides aside, it's a overall pretty enjoyable show.
The art is different from the most commonly know anime, and yet very fitting for Kakushigoto. As for the music, both the opening and the ending are very good songs within the secrets/hidden things theme, where the OP is a j-pop/j-rock and the ED is a japanese song from 80s.
All in all, before you go watch it you should also notice that...
...as I said, it's a lighthearted comedy, in other words, most of the topics brought up will be covered in a more cute and light way than usual, such as being a single father and some other family related difficulties that Kakushi Gotou had or still have, as well as some topics including his work as a mangaka.
I hope you will enjoy watching Kakushigoto!
---
tl;dr
The foreshadowing is the biggest upside;
You might not care for a few of the side-characters;
It's a really fun comedy, but you won't run out of air while laughing;
If are worried about the cute artstyle, it fits the anime;
Just go and watch it! ^^
