Texhnolyze has a special place in my collection, if I really had to choose my favourite anime, in the end, I'd probably go with this. It ticks all the boxes for me. I'm in my 20's and I think this series would appeal more to those around that kind of age group. It's a dark, mature, brooding and brutal series. I can completely empathise with those who don't get along with this series because as most other fans of the show have said, it's not for everyone.
I'm a fan of a good dark series and that sums it up. I don't find it
...
despressing (though some might), I find it interesting. The series is slow throughout which works perfectly, it just fits with what Texhnolyze is. The story itself starts fairly simple and stays that way for some time, to the point where some may think there's nothing to it but you have to stick with it. As the story progresses in the second half of the series, things get a little more complex and as you reach the end of the series, that's when you need to start thinking about it a bit more. The entire series has good replay value becuase the more you watch, the more you start to take in. This really is one of those series that can be discussed over and over, for those who really care.
Texhnolyze is a violent, sometimes controversial series. There are parts of it which might make some people cringe but that's only one aspect of it. That side of the series certainly doesn't make it. The brutality of it all just adds to the general feel of 'no hope' that you get from the story.
The characters don't necessarily feel like your average anime characters. They're very real, urban characters. There's not that silliness about them that you sometimes get from other series. There's nothing funny and often nothing likable about them. They always come off as very serious. They can sometimes feel monotonous but that's what makes this series so different. Yoshii is an incredible character, among my top anime characters.
Again, everything works well with this series, including the artwork. There's a feel of the Boogiepop Phantom series in there. That gloominess. If you liked the artwork for Shigurui, then you're like this.
As far as music is concerned, the final song at the very end of the series is memorable and poignant. I just loved that song and it goes so well with the great ending.
Onto the negatives, well, some people will find the whole series entirely negative, go into it with an open mind. The only one negative I can think of that really bummed me out was the death of one of the key characters halfway through the series. In many ways, he felt like the main protagonist of the entire series. The next few episodes after this death gave me a sense that the series was going to lose steam, everything just felt a little underwhelming. However the story does pick up again, when the 'new' protagonist is introduced.
Overall then, a series well worth watching at least once. I can ask that you give it a chance, try to watch it to the very ending. It is a sad tale but I found it very rewarding in the end. Like Lain, you have to make your own conclusions, it's very philosophical. It's as close to 10 as I can get.

To start with, this series was a winner because I happened to find the official UK release boxset secondhand for £2 so you can't go wrong there.
Secondly, I see myself as a man's man! So my first instincts were to shrug this off as a girly anime (which it probably is) but don't judge a book by it's cover. I actually really enjoyed this series. It was just completely different and not as serious as the anime I tend to find myself enjoying. It does have a tendency to throw you into all kinds of emotions but still remains fairly light-hearted from start to finish.
...
If you do like your anime dark and serious, then this is a great alternative when you just want something to chill out to without having to think too much.
I guess more than anything, this series makes you appreciate life and those you share that life with. I kinda related to Kyo and sided with him from the beginning, so the last two episodes were fitting and I really enjoyed his 'major' role in those later episodes. If I had to find a flaw, I'd probably say that the ending wasn't all that great but hey that's what you get with most manga adapted anime.
I wouldn't have given this series a chance in other cirumstances so I'm kinda glad I found it so cheap. It certainly opens me up to other anime that I'd consider 'not my cup of tea'.

It's been a while but I finally got round to watching this series.
Well, firstly, this anime gets bonus points for the simple fact that involves Wolves, which is personally an animal that I love and one that I feel a connection to. Therefore, we were pretty much onto a winner from the start.
The thing that struck me about this series or a thought that came into my head (as a lover of the game) was 'Damn, this is what a Final Fantasy anime series should have been like'. To me, this series really had that FF feel about it...the long journey, the adventures
...
along the way, the drama, etc.
It's a fairly simple, straight forward story but done very well. You're sucked into the pack's world from start to finish, wanting to see where the journey takes them next and what adversities they must face.
On a negative, I guess you could say there were some draggy episodes and the 4 recap episodes were a little pointless but the last 5/6 episodes really made up for it because the build-up to & the ending itself were as epic as an anime series is gonna get. Probably one of the best endings that I can recall.
I've gotta say, I've seen a hell of a lot of anime series now but none were as emotionally draining as this one. I cried, I laughed & I cried a little more. I'm probably a little late on this series & most have probably already seen it but to any new anime fan, I'd definately recommend this as 'one to watch'.

So I decided to give FMP a proper watch after pretty much giving up on it the first time and rating it pretty low.
On second viewing, after sitting down and watching it properly, with an open mind, I enjoyed it this time. It's certainly not the worst but no where near the best. It's a fairly entertaining show but I'd say it's certainly aimed more at the younger anime audience. At times it's just that little bit too ditzy for me & the action scenes just lack something. It's a mecha anime but the parts I enjoyed, didn't involve mecha whatsoever. The non-action, light
...
hearted side of the story is the high point of the series.
From this series and on the strength of the FMP fanbase, I will definately continue watching FUMOFFU & Second Raid but I'm expecting a bit more from each. This series delivered just enough to keep me interested and I have heard that the next two series get better.

Overall, this was a pretty solid show. I think I enjoyed the non-action parts of the show a lot more, the character iteraction was enjoyable to watch. The action scenes just got a little bit repetitive at times. But, if war anime is your thing then this is probably one for you, though it doesn't feel like a very adult show. Early on this series flowed very well, most episodes were enjoyable and the mystery of the lead characters past always kept me interested. For me, however, the later part of the series was a little bit underwhelming. A fairly solid ending but nothing special. It
...
did, at least, bring a proper closure to the series. I personally don't think this series has much replay value in it. It feels like a pretty basic series, looking back at it now and the latter part of the series really does spoil the flow of the series.

Yep, I officially love this series. I started off by reading the manga and because I wasn't able to read it enough and it's highly unlikely that I'll be able to collect the entire series, I decided to give the anime a go. Also, a note of interest, this is the first anime series that I watched exclusively online. To me, it's pretty much the first real light-hearted anime that I enjoyed this much and unlike a lot of the other shows of that category, it didn't get tedious. Okay...there may have been the odd 'off' episode but I'm finding it hard to remember one
...
that I didn't enjoy. Plus it runs for 43 episodes, which I guess is fairly long for your average anime these days. I put it there with Death Note, a series that ran for about the same amount of episodes and one that had me anxious for more from start to finish, just in a different way. A hell of a lot of laughs and you just gotta love Onizuka, to me, now one of the top anime characters. I really find it hard to see any fault in this series. Solid from start to finish. The only thing I would say is that I personally preferred the japanese voice actors to the english speaking counterparts, the dub was kinda lame in my opinion.

You don't often find many good and serious samurai anime but this manages to be both and has been a pleasure to watch, even though it's a fairly short series. What it has done is ignite an interest in the Rurouni Kenshin brand as I'm fairly new to it. The story itself, I thought was excellent and it sucked me in from the beginning. It became a story of an assasin's contentment and the tragic & ironic loss of it. Although short, the series goes at a fairly slow pace which works well. The artwork is among the better half of most anime and the
...
actions scenes are quite impressive. I only hope that the other parts of the story, including the tv series, can live up to how good this version of Rurouni Kenshin was.

Maybe I'm being a little harsh. Well, the series probably wasn't aimed at my kind of audience. My partner bought the series so I thought I might as well be an anime purist and give it a go. I had the same experience with Fruits basket but I actually enjoyed that a lot. This series started well, I thought. Then it became kind of tedious during the middle, what with Keitaro accidently walking into bath area with bunch of girls, then getting hit every episode for being 'perverted'. Then, every other scene, Keitaro gets punched into the sky by Naru and these two are
...
meant to be in love. I don't know, maybe there's a deeper meaning in there that I'm not getting because I'm about as dumb as Keitaro at this stage. I've gotta say by the end of the series, I absolutely detested Naru. I've seen plenty of anime but that's the first time a character really pissed me off. The mid-to-end episodes started well but then the last bunch of episodes were a letdown. You both love eachother, you dumb emotionally retarded schmucks, you could have ended this happily ever after 15 f'n episodes ago. Those two bastards deserved eachother in the end but I gotta say I was rootin for the 'other' girl. However, on a slightly positive note, I'm sure the girls will love it!

I was always quite eager to see this series and I managed to pick the set up cheap fairly recently. I'm not the biggest fan of mecha anime but I've been keeping an open mind and have started to appreciate them a little more now, as long as they're done properly. This series has quite an adult feel to it, it can be fairly political and it doesn't rely massively on mecha action. It's a slow paced series, which I normally quite like but I must admit, at times it did become a little tedious. Overall, the story is fairly simple until the very final
...
episode. I thought the final episode itself was excellent and made the series worth watching in the end. I think it's fair to say that I had high expectations going into this series (I'm not sure why exactly) and it didn't live up to them but it was a good, solid anime series, just nothing special. It had it's up's and down's, one minute I was getting really into the series, the next, I was losing interest slightly. I believe this is one of those series to forget you even have and then eventually, somewhere down the line, re-watch it again. I'm sure I'll appreciate it a little more the next time around.

I've heard a lot of bad things about this anime, admittedly, the violence might be seen as a little shocking but it's nothing to get over-sensitive about. Besides, although the hyper-violent side of the series is what seems to get the most feedback, the story itself outweighs the brutal aspects of the series to a point where the violence really didn't interest me. I thoroughly enjoyed this short little series and didn't expect to after the first episode. But, from then on, the story slowly weaved it's way in and had me hooked. I'm a fan of a proper, serious samurai movie and this was
...
done as a samurai series should be. It reminded me of a Kurosawa samurai movie. Very slow-paced and I think it worked well that way. Very strange at times but also thought provoking if you're into the psyche of a samurai. Much like Texhnolyze, the characters are cold, at times, probably quite dull to your average anime fan. You never really know who to sympathise with, if any. If Lone wolf and cub had ever had an anime series made, it would have been great if it was made in this style. My main gripe with the series is the hugely disappointing ending but I guess that's what you get when the manga is still going. It's a shame, one more episode probably would have done it but I'm hopeful that a second series will get made someday.
