Oh, man, I don't even know where to start. Let's start with the good stuff. Animation. It's pretty good for 1980. The music is pretty good, too. As for the rest of it. I really, really don't understand where so many positive reviews of this anime come from. I love old anime myself. For me, the year of release is not some kind of issue. But what I saw in this series just blew me away. Most of the episodes of the series are educational stories for children. For example, you can't be mean to other people or you can't destroy nature. with some philosophical themes. But why is there some fucked up thing going on in every episode? Astroboy just destroys everything for no reason, cities, spaceships and even planets. And at the end of the episode everyone is laughing like it's meant to be. What's the point of all this? Tezuka's moralizing messages dissolve into a horrible narrative canvass. In 90% of the episodes, nothing happens except that Astroboy flew in, broke everything around him, and defeated evil. And then everyone laughs, curtain call. The show doesn't pass any kind of test of time. Maybe if you like looking at Uran-chan's underwear, you'll disagree with me. But I sincerely do not recommend 1980's Astro Boy for watching at any cost.
