This movie isn't a basic victim point of view movie where we see all the obvious trauma the victim will go through. Like of course, the victim will be beyond sad and we all know it's horrible, but what about the other perspective...the bully's perspective. This is how we get A Silent Voice. A story about a bully who evolves to be a better person.
This story is also not making you love the bully right away. It doesn't start off with some sad story in his past that causes him to act like this against Shouko. he is simply a young kid who bullies
...
a deaf girl, so we are led to instantly hate him. It is not trying to justify his actions. Instead, we gradually come to understand how he has grown as a person and valid points around his intentions are brought up through out the movie. Our MC Shoya is a boy who is trying to fix himself and everything he has done in the past. It gives us this new perspective of how people can genuinely change if they really want to.
It's a movie that is very heavily focused on character development for the MC, which is what makes this movie such an adventure to view.
The art is great, the sound/music is very fitting and subtle but very present in lots of scenes. Especially the ending song really conveys the whole message of the movie, the characters could've been more polished besides Shoya but what can u do when you are adapting a manga into a movie. It is still very good. if you ever feel like giving up or you're just having a bad day...just watch this movie to show that people really care you and that you can have a second chance at life.
Do not watch this film for the romance, but instead watch it for the spectacular growth of someone who once was a bully...and it'll be up to you if you would give him a second chance. I know I would, or maybe I'm just too forgiving.
