They both have the sweet ending that we all really want with a great build up. Hanaya no Nikai de is a bit sadder because it's the main character coming to terms with love, but it's still so sweet and gentle. -A.

Both have the same kind of sadness that is so attractive in Josei. I think blue is a bit more painful because of it's innocence, but Indigo Blue is almost like a more mature reading of a woman coming to terms with her self as someone who loves other woman as opposed to girls discovering love in unstable places. -A.

this is quite a leap here. J no Subete is about the life of a boy named J who is potentially trans and enjoys dressing up like a woman. and of course, Rivers Edge is about Haruna surviving the underbelly of her small town. The similarities are not in the genre's, but in the intensity of the storytelling. They both have a distinct art style that i think certain readers will appreciate. In addition, there is a harshness to both stories that i personally seek out in manga and that these two tales provided for me! -A

The two mangas have pretty smiler plot lines. They both start off with main characters that have boyfriends but come to accept there homosexuality after meeting woman they fall in love with. the difference come in the certainty in the woman's personality after the decision to finally live out there lives as there true selves. Personally, i think Indigo Blue is more consistently good, but i very much loved the flawed human aspect that was in love slave. I also *spilor* love the fact that Ureha didn't end up in either relationship and really worked on herself and then found that she could be self sufficient. But she also came to realize that the love she had with her daughter was healthy and could be nurturing to both of them. So they both have there strong points :-)

Although the subject matter doesn't really relate to this, i feel like the mood and intensity is something that these two have in common. Helter Skelter and Copernicus no Kokyuu both have main characters who are obviously unstable and verging on mental breakdowns. Although the main character in HS is a bit more neurotic and Id like, Copernicus's main character is just trying to escape life as it seems in the more climactic points in HS. The art styles are both alternative and (i feel) additive to the story. Something i find very refreshing about both mangas.

It keeps the slice of life bit very closely along with struggles the characters have to face as gay men. It's very intense and deals with the possible contraction of AIDs, not for the week hearted (you may want to bring a box of tissue).
