A very disappointing final season - it's terribly rushed and there's barely any music.

Compare and contrast to the wonderful seasons 1 and 2 - those gave the characters time to breathe and the drama was allowed to develop naturally.

The main movie (that was released after season 2) suffers from the same problem - trying to cram in too much.

On the positive side, KyoAni as always knock it out of the park with the beautiful art and animation, I have no complaints on that score. The voice acting is top tier as always.

Is season 3 worth watching? Yes, just about, but temper your expectations.

I have very mixed feelings about Frieren - it really shines when it takes its time and develops the relationships between the characters, even if that is simply done as an exercise in 'walking and talking'. The writing for these parts is excellent - an episode can fly by extremely fast and you're left feeling that you've really experienced something special.

However, the show falls flat on its backside when it devolves into uninteresting fight sequences - they're not involving, you just know that the main characters have the thickest plot armor and so will come out of the scrap relatively unscathed. Such episodes are pointless ... and the show becomes the most basic shounen that you can imagine.

And then there's the arc that makes up the last few episodes of the 2023/2024 series - what a disaster this has been. All of a sudden a lot of new characters are introduced, each of course with their own quirks and attitude problems and each demanding screen time. There's plenty of action and silly little fights that are very predictable and very dull as a result.

If the show had stuck to the 'walking and talking' episodes it would have likely been a 9/10 for me, however the action episodes badly let it down, hence why it gets a 7/10. I can't imagine that the last two episodes are going to be much of an improvement I say this having read that the current dull action arc merely continues).
