The anime Bleach is based off of manga version written by Tite Kubo. Bleach as an anime at the time of this review has 305 English dubbed episodes and is completely finished airing in the Japanese dubbed. I was introduced to Bleach near the beginning of the story somewhere around episode 50 of the English dubbed. I have personally tried sticking to the English dubbed and eventually switched to the Japanese dubbed. Time for the actually review below.
Story: 6
The Bleach storyline as an anime has failed as a whole which lead to Bleach being discontinued after the Fullbring arc in the anime. Having read the
...
Bleach manga i came to the conclusion that one episode of Bleach compress about 4 chapters of the manga. This lead to many filler arcs (Bount arc, New Captain arc, Zanpaktou Rebellion arc, and etc) that were irrelevant to the many storyline. The fillers were not all bad, they just had poor placement in the story with a filler interrupting halfway through an arc. The story did not all entirely suffer. Bleach's storyline does a very nice job following the main character Ichigo and with his development with his friends and powers. Since, this anime was so long it gave time to actually develop the characters and their relationship with others. The bulk of the explanation of things was done through the training or done with flashbacks of main characters.
Art: 7
The art in Bleach was unique. The use of filters when they were in the world of the living as spirits really made you understand that they weren't human. This though disappoints me because they removed the use of fillers after the "Rescue Rukia Arc". Shadows and shades were used pretty well in the anime. The flow of things was flawless, regardless of action or not.
Sound: 8
The openings of Bleach were really energetic, upbeat, and fun. The closing songs of Bleach were okay as they in a way tell you the episode is over and it's time to move on with it's depressingness. The background music throughout the show never disappointed since they set the mood almost perfectly, duals, silly moments, emotion times, etc. There's nothing other really notable about the music other than what was mentioned. The background noises also didn't really stand out unless it was a sword or a arrow flying.
Characters: 8
My score of 8 does not reflect just the main characters but all the characters introduced. The leading male Ichigo has a good progressive development throughout the show to the point he overpowers everyone and then is reduced to nothing when the next power guy comes and defeats him. Then on to more training and the cycle repeats. The leading lady, Rukia, drives the plot all the way to the bount arc and then is reduced to a supporting character just to disappear a bit and returns better than ever. It may seem like all i am doing is bashing those two characters but i'm not. With that kind of development that expands over many episodes it really gives time for the characters to develop and come to life. The other main characters follow the same kind of development as the leading male and female. The supporting characters that are introduced in each arc really grow on you and really feel for them. In their arc they have enough time to tell you who they are, their motivation, their life story (basically), and then are removed in some way to roll in the next characters with life or no reference to the past characters but that's okay. Regardless every character in Bleach (aside from the comedic relief characters) has been done really well on screen, it's their removal is what is lacking with characters (suicide of characters for no reasons).
Enjoyment: 8
My own personal enjoyment of the show varied from episode to episode. As i kind of grew up with Bleach I've grown attached to the show making this one of my favorite of the three Shounen animes. (Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece) The differences in powers and the whole show in general was nice. Though eventually i lost interest in the show only to resume months later.
Overall I give Bleach a 8 (which i round up from 7.6) seeing as it was a show that had many positive things about it. The flaws in Bleach is mainly timing. I would recommend this show to anyone with time or enjoy supernatural things. I would also recommend not buying this anime but stream it since it's so long and probably good being seen once or twice through to the end. Thank you for reading.
For the record this is my first anime review.
