Despite only a score of 7 I quite liked this manga. It's different from the other 2 Ito manga I've read, Uzumaki and Tomie, in the sense that it manages to be more weird. The death stench and the leg machines are a really unique concept that I certainly couldn't have come up with and then fused together to make some of the most interesting horror/body horror I've seen. Really amazing drawings here albeit disgusting at times. While the main characters were nothing great and the main story lacking besides the main premise, its a really interesting sort of experiment on what can be done ... with horror and it was quite good.

I'll be honest right off the bat an admit I didn't pay the greatest of attention while watching this anime so yea that might have impacted my opinion somewhat but anyways. The first season just felt a bit underwhelming to me, I feel like going from a 40+ hour game to a short series like this kind of throws of a bit of the balance and attachment we're to feel for some of the characters. Season 2 mostly felt the same way, the animation is up to standard which is good, the main story and even some of the side content is adapted and ... its executed pretty well, but again I feel it just goes by to fast. Maybe I'm just watching this too close to having played the game, which was a couple years ago but idk that's just how it felt watching it. Might give this another watch in a couple years with both parts fully released but for now it was just alright to me.

This will be a review for both halves of the second season as well as just overall for the OVA's and movies. While I can't say this was 100% as good as the first it still a great anime. It carries the same themes and episodic structure the first season did and just continues to be an enjoyable, sometimes depressing, break from the usual content of most anime. Mushishi is really distinct in that manner, there are a lot of anime that employ the episodic structure but none seem to take it as far as Mushishi with having no overarching plot at all which I ... found really interesting. Yes it did lead to having not as much information about the main character Ginko as I would have liked, and I still think would have been possible while keeping the episodic stricture intact, I think it was a really nice break and made it a joy to sit down and watch. I feel like part of the difference in this season was the stories of the episodes itself mostly, there were still some really good ones but there were more this season that I just felt were alright. Also there were barely any actual visible Mushi in this season, more so Mushi that exist as their own thing inside something or as a force of nature, which is a cool concept, but I think should have been mixed in more with other types of Mushi. Overall thought this was still and amazing anime and for sure is one of the greats and I'm sad for it to be over.

This is probably the most disappointed I've been by an anime in a while. If not for the hype prior to release as "the first good Junji Ito adaptation" I may not have been as let down, but here we are. Can't go anywhere without talking about the animation, even after the first trailers I was already skeptical about the use of CGI, yes its possible for it to look good, and episode one I would say is once of the better uses of CGI in anime I have seen, it still wasn't right. For going as far to be black and white to be ... closer to the manga, the CGI and smooth movements were too off-putting, but not bad, good even, but not perfect. Then we get to the rest of the episodes, I'm not even going to waste my breath on this, it was horrible, insane downgrade in quality and a very big let down. The issues don't end there though, the pacing was also changed from the original manga, while not all bad, a lot of it threw off the tension that the original had building as it progressed further and further down the spiral. Some content had even been completely cut or shortened to where it just lost all of its impact. There are no redeeming qualities in this anime other than I would say it soundtrack, and at that point, put the soundtrack on in the background and read the manga.

Coming off of the greatness we had in season 6, this is partly lackluster but still good. The pacing felt a bit off, partly due to being split between so many different locations and groups of people but when it really zeroed in a a certain moment was when it really shined. And there were lots of really great moments in this season with many different characters, giving them all time to shine and have their moments it really does feel like its drawing close to the culmination, I was almost surprised we're still getting another full season. I am very excited to see how ... it all ends and can't wait for the next season, until then!

Hmm so I can see why people would hate or love this. I thought it was pretty good on its own but it was lacking in comparison to Bakemonogatari. Some of the vibes are still here but a lot of them are missing. The editing was pretty much simplified to normal but it keeps a lot of the mannerisms and environments. The story revolving around the sisters was good, different structurally to the shorter stories in Bake but they were good. I don't have complaints about anything else per say but it was just less impactful than the entry before it still a good watch ... though.

Reading this after having seen the movie adaption of the light novel the manga is also based off of. The read is worth it for the art alone, its at its peak here with crazy details into the surroundings and the mecha suits, the gore, lots of gore. The time loop aspect is fun and its nice seeing the main characters reactions to things as they go on. Other than that I would say the plot is just serviceable, up until the 3rd act where I think things take a little downturn, I think the ending itself is good thematically but it doesn't feel final ... enough, which I suppose its not meant to be but I feel a different direction would have been nice. Overall though I enjoyed it and its a fun short manga to kill some time with.

This feels like on of those anime that has so many layers to it that its hard to fully grasp it's full prowess in one watch. All I know is that I really liked it and I want more. This is definitely an anime that some people will love and some will hate, its hectic, its sometimes unintelligible, it's highly intelligent, but it doesn't require you to be. The style of editing used in this is very unique and I loved it, can see why some people wouldn't though. The characters in this are all very unique and fun, they almost seem like a caricature ... but with a lot more depth to them, I mean that in a good way. The plot while not anything fancy, is just simple enough to follow along but weird enough to be interesting. The dialogue in this is amazing, maybe the best in any anime I've watched, its quick, its witty and it makes full use of language itself to make different jokes or refer to different things, and with lots of monologues which I love. With it all said and done I think I'll need to rewatch this one day later on, maybe read the light novel if I end up loving the whole series. I've heard mixed opinions on the rest of the series so I guess I'll see how that goes for me.

Review is mostly for all 3 parts. They definitely cooked really hard with these movies. Reading about the behind the scenes and how long it took these movies to come to fruition, seeing it on screen definitely makes sense. Might be the most character animation I've seen in any anime movie, any scene where there can be movement happening its there, no matter how little, and it makes for such a fluid looking movie its beautiful. The movies themselves are just very cinematic, having the same director as Bakemono it makes sense, but the style is just right up my alley. The fight scenes in ... this are just crazy raw and fluid its really a joy to watch.

Short and sweet. This was really good as I had expected to be having read the one shot manga it's adapting. Studio Durian despite this being their first anime did an amazing job adapting Fujimoto's art style and characteristics, I really couldn't wish for anything more, and the color pallet in this is just perfect. The story is really good, although I feel like it to fully hit its hardest you need to have a little knowledge on the manga industry and ideally even a little bit about Fujimoto himself to really help draw the parallels between the two. It's well told and while its ... really short, no time at all is wasted. I think the ending felt to me on first read as a bit unfinished for certain reasons, upon watching this I think it was actually done pretty well and the conclusion just parallels where Fujimoto is at in life right now, so its not really over. Probably one of my favorite anime short movies now, this is really moving film and I give a big recommendation.
