I've been seeing this anime on Netflix, thinking that it wouldn't be something that would interest me as I prefer different genres, Mechs and War rarely makes me interested, as I've run out of animes to watch, I figured I should at least give it a shot watch it from the background while doing work on my other screen, but the first episode immediately caught my attention and can't help but get my eyes glued on the screen showing the anime.
Eighty-six is a story that would not expect to give this many emotions. Given that this anime is war-themed, there's no doubt there would be

scenes that would be emotional. As this is a spoiler-free review it can be difficult to express the commendable writing of the anime's story
Masterpiece is definitely used too loosely since I've experienced doing the same, but as my first review, this is definitely a masterpiece. The way the story was written was well thought out, it was difficult to predict the actions that the protagonists will take, and what their path will lead to, which for me made the story amazing and unique. Cliches are definitely hard to avoid but cliches can be good if it is well executed. The two-part story of Eighty-six surprised me in that it barely, if not, did not have any slow paces. It felt that each episode was evenly paced it didn't feel too fast or too slow like the anime was able to properly tell the story in those 23 episodes.
I would love to share more but this is a spoiler-free review for those who are second-guessing themselves on watching it.
tl;dr; I recommend it even if the genre of the show is not your preference, because even I am hooked. It is a very satisfying anime
