This adaptation is one of those that were ongoing alongside the manga and went into a completely different direction from it in order to finish in my way.

The formula of this series in terms of the first half is the episodic one with a few plot relevant episodes here and there, the 2nd half being the same episodic format but some parts of each episode carrying in and being part of the plot, thus the episodic format does get alongside the plot stuff much better later so in a sense it does get better.

But also in the same sense you know what you are getting ... it into just by watching in a few episodes and whatever you are gonna like it or not, its a very consistently okaying series overall, this hold true for most of its aspects including characters.

The biggest problem being the ending in which it does hint you as continuation instead of properly wrapping things up, said continuation for this type of series(that its different than the manga or 2021 adaptation) will obviously never come.

Taking a few years after the DM anime timeline wise, Yugioh GX is the sequel and its not adapted from a manga unlike DM, although it does have a manga but thats irrelevant as it came after it and its the same case for every other yugioh series from now on, just like DM i am reviewing the japanese version because the english one is horrible.

Its the first attempt at a Yugioh anime without any source material and it shows, from the story's lack of direction.

First 2 seasons, which take up like 104 episodes, are full of enemy of the week episodes, so much that ... at a lot of times when the story seems like its gonna advance, you are thrown into another enemy of the week episode, it gets more of a direction later(but its still quite a bit messy), but it goes into the opposite direction to the first 2 seasons.

So if you liked the first 2 seasons feels you won't like the last 2, and if you liked last 2 then 104 episodes to get to it isn't worth it.

Animation wise it isn't good, it has some nicely animated moments for not much in the way of nice animated episodes per say but the soundtrack is pretty good at the least.

It has a few good characters and there are more extra parts you may enjoy(despite my low rating) as this series is pretty MC focused(the most out of any series), so your overall enjoyment of the series will depend on how much you like Judai(while i like him i don't worship the ground he walks on, hence the low score).

Its quite the drug trip though so be prepared.

A battle shounen with card games as its battle system, the one that started it all.

I should note my review is based on the japanese version as the 4kids one is awful, and as i said before this series diverges enough from the manga that it becomes its own thing, to the point it becomes its own timeline with spin of series, so this series is not a substitute for the manga.

Its a long running series that adapted the manga while running alongside it, so pacing isn't that good and as with every such series animation will range from bad to good.

The story also differs ... from the manga in many way despite sharing arcs, like how characters are characterized between versions and many plot points are delivered, and it has anime original arcs as well.

If you are interested in seeing how one can make card games look good then this series should catch your interest as characterization is done well between the 3 main characters and the villains, with the plot being above average for kid's show standards, otherwise battle shounen card games may not be for you and you will probably not like the other yugioh series anyways.

I assume you already watched the first season when you are watching this and its better in almost every way, art is the same but the plot and its episodes and characterization are better in every way(the villains are also much better than previous seasons as threats), animation its on average better than the average episodes of last season but it doesn't have the really 2 good animated episodes of the last one.

So despite all those improvements and more consistent narrative and an actual overarching plot its ruined by filler(meaning non relevant episodes) and the pacing goes to hell due to this since they get ... a lot, hence the low score, this story would be better if it had half of the episodes.

Its ending foreshadows the next season so unlike the previous season, this is more of an adventure continues ending.

So overall this season is okay for a kids show, its good episodes are above average by those standards but be prepared for lots of non plot relevant episodes to drag this down.

This is the kind of series thats hard to call bad or good, the plot is kinda both episodic and not, art is average and animation is below average and music just like most anime is decent.

One thing i can say it does well is the characterisation, main and side characters while they did not woo me, are decent to above average to the point i can say there is no annnoying or bad character at the very least.

A lot of parts on this anime are okay/good as standalone parts but they don't mix very well together with each other, the episodic parts don't move ... the overarching plot after all even if they are not bad and obviously the not so good production values on this show bring it down.

If you are the type to prefer the journey including the sidequests rather than the destination, then yeah watch this.

So this a spin off of another series but i am gonna be judiging it on its own.

The story is very simple in both its content and overaching plot, it has more SOL than you would expect and not much adventuring, still those cases do not slow it down as it has a nice pacing and some nice mix of action and downtime, with some nice art, decent animation and pretty good music.

The characters are certainly the better part as it has good enough characterization along with the nice pacing i mentioned, at the least as much as you can expect from a low stakes ... story which ends when it looks like it just started.

Overall despite the nice things i say about this and while i enjoyed it, it certainly is not for everyone, as it has a little above average gore and fanservice moments.

I believe this is the type of show you enjoy more when you consume on a casual basis rather than a must watch anime.

The story starts meh, becomes kinda interesting and then gets worse and worse, thats both due to messy pacing and the core of story itself being bad.

The story its simple enough and moves fast, which is even more amazing on how it got this bad, it cannot even keep its tone consistent, DEM and lack of any consequences as well.

The characters themselves are not that interesting either, a lot of them are annoying as well and there is a lot of them, pointless additions overall but on the bright side the villain is fleshed out well, if not for the tone thing i mentioned which ... you cannot take him seriously despite being OP.

Art is on the good side which is a first for Bridge but since its Bridge after all the animation is a slideshow, the music is the only decent part of it.

I have not watched the other anime version of it but i can say this series was not worth it.

Story structure is a continuous plot about the overlapping paths of our 3 main characters and the different decisions they take to reach the path they believe the best.

As our characters go they are fleshed in an okay manner, even the majority of side characters.

The artstyle is on the good side and the animation is simple okay in the few scenes there is action.

As you can see i cannot say much more without spoillers but overall this show has been pretty meh to okay, not solid or anything but just okay with an also okayish ending.

It could be much more you could say but this ... is the kind of show you forget it exists, not because it is bad but because it took the middle option many times to be neither bad, so bad its good or good in general.

Story is just 13 episode “arcs” which tend to replaced actual plot progression for gag plot twists to pull out the rug under you, also every arc repeats the same plot defending Rush Duels.

Characters have no depth apart from exxagerating silly anime tropes the show finds funny, no substantial development it and joke villains and there is a lot of them for both cases.

If you are expecting good animation due to the simplified below average designs then you would dissapointed as its a slideshow as per usual for Bridge, music is meh and the VAs are average at best expect 1.

Do you like Yugioh? Well ... this show takes everything good about it and goes the opposite direction.

Do you like kid's shows? This show is pretty bad even as a standalone, even its humor is not good.

I can give more reasons of what it does bad but you get the point, if for some reason you still wanna try it then the 3 episodes rule works for it(which is not a good thing).

The story has 2 arc so to speak, needless to say the 1st ends right in the middle of the series.

The 1st part has an episodic structure leading to a tournament that after it finishes brings up a random final boss for them to beat, the 2nd part is once again episode with a more rushed plot than the previous one and it ends in episodic things to make things worse.

The characters themselves are very bland without any development and the villains are even more bland, the most fleshed and interesting were the side villains that became good, 1 of them even had a good ... backstory.

Animation wise it has like 2 episodes with amazing animation, and the rest range from decent to average, the soundtrack is okay and the artstyle is pretty good for early 2000s standards.

Overall its not worth it but i watched it because i remember what comes after this series its good so lets see how it goes.
