Both written by the same author so the main reason to watch one if you liked the other is they have the same "feeling" and atmosphere. There are also these similarities: -Stories of people growing up, and learning how to cope with hardships -Strong casts with a great mix of heartwarming moments with drama -Same unique art style

Maison Ikkoku

I am making this recommendation from the perspective that these are both more mature love stories with adult characters. **Be aware of spoilers, there is nothing here that you would not know if you did not watch Trust and Betrayal or the first 3 episodes of Maison Ikkoku** Similarities: -Main characters both have a spouse that has passed away -A serious look on love, and a look into the struggles that relate to loss -Mature relationships and relationship problems -Both are older series that stand out in their genre

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

While watching Panty and Stocking I could not help but feel it was a more modern and outrageous version of Dirty Pair, they both have a similar "girls kick ass and take no prisoners" vibe. Similarities: -action and comedy focus with two strong females who clash but are close -infamous girls on a kind of "team" that have to go on "missions" together, they often get in trouble and cause headaches for those around them -episodic

Shirobako

These anime are a look into a more "real" side of anime in Japan, while still being interesting pieces of fiction. Both show adults dealing with anime and how it impacts their lives even as they grow up. Similarities: -shows the every lives of characters surrounded by anime, in Shirobako those who work in the anime industry, and in Genshiken otaku at their college club -same scriptwriter -older casts(college age and people entering the work force) -meta-anime that poke fun at the cliches -stories of people trying to find their "place" with anime as adults, if they should move on or continue to embrace it

Oniisama e...

Prepare for lots of melodrama and strong princely women! After watching Rose of Versailles I was trying to find another good classic shoujo series, I was recommended to watch Oniisama e... and it was the perfect follow up show. Both question gender roles in a way beyond their time and have inspired many other shows in a good way. After watching both of these shows you can see their influence all over the place in modern anime. (Especially in yuri and shoujo type shows)

Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

These shows will show you the weird, creepy side of otaku... the part that make otaku what they are. (Obviously awesome!?) This is the stuff that makes normies cringe and who doesn't love that. Even if you're just interested in otaku culture, these are good shows to watch. They're funny, you laugh at the characters and maybe even relate to them as well depending on your scale of otaku. A note for Genshiken, it starts of focusing on the stereotypical male otaku but later seasons bring all kinds of otaku... yaoi fan girls(fujoushi) and cosplay otaku and so forth.

Puchi Puri Yuushi/Petite Princess Yucie and Sugar Sugar Rune Similarities: -Both have a spunky heroine -Involve magic, and fantasy elements like unicorns, dragons and fairies -Both about young girls wanting to become royalty, with tests and tasks against other girls (Yucie is actually 17.. but looks like a 10 year old so this is a little different) -Friends are close and rivals -In both the characters have to collect magic items to become Princess/Queen, in Yucie they collect fragments of a magical tiara and in Sugar Sugar Rune they collect crystal hearts -Romance Overall they are both cute shows with similar elements, if you like one you will probably like the other.

-both have cute girls doing cute things... while being very FUNNY! (These are often funnier then typical moe shows) -similar kind of humour (finding humour in every day life) -similar characters (If you liked Kana, you'll probably like Miu) -same idea of younger girl characters with an older sister type character looking after them Over all, I've seen so many other moe shows, and these two are the most similar to one another. They are both great in their own ways. They are cute AND funny. <3

Kiniro Mosaic

Both have: -cute girls doing cute things (Moe!) -a blonde foreign girl from England (Alice and Ana) -a girl who loves blonde hair, and obsesses over the other character (Shino and Nobue) -foreign girl is very good at Japanese (Alice and Ana) -both occasionally wear cute lolita outfits *o* There is also the cute common theme of jealousy between friends, which is very common with girls. But it is always done in a more cute way then serious. ^^ Basically, they are very similar. Ichigo Mashimaro came out first, and while watching Kiniro Mosaic I kept thinking back to Ichigo Mashimaro.
