Project No.9, infamously, has once again underachieved and underdelivered for yet another season. And while partially they were able to be carried by good sources, such as in Bottom Tier Tomozaki-kun, I cannot say the same for this show. "The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten" is by far one of the more disappointing romances I've had the displeasure of watching. While the premise and the studio did not leave much to be desired, it is far worse than one should expect.
I don't want to sound like a broken record but it is really hard to review this show without mentioned the atrocity that is
...
Project No.9's animation. I won't get too much into the details because I am sure somebody else does quite a better job of describing it than myself but the lack of care when it comes to the adaptation is surprising, not even Bottom Tier Tomozaki-kun was this butchered. I legitimately wonder if they even have any sort of quality control or screenings of the show before airing because some if not all of the inconsistencies are highly visible, you don't have to be watching attentively to notice one of the two characters always on screen having one eye different than the other. It is beyond stiff, it is inconsistent, and worst of all, the quality which was tolerable to a certain extent during the first few episodes get even worse after, which is honestly disrespectful to just disregard the viewer's experience once they have you watching.
And while I can stand here critiquing the animation like everyone else does for every damn show this company creates all day, I find the plot to be honestly a lot worse. The moment to moment romance and comedy is honestly, actually good. The interactions between Shiina and Fujimiya are legitimately enjoyable, that is if you watch this show as clips without the full context.
The premise of both MC's being forced to ignore their feelings, and stay as friends is completely thrown out the fucking window when you see them halfway through the story petting each other, holding hands, and going on dates. I find it impossible to be so ignorant when it comes to the writing, there was not even any attempt to make the story somewhat believable or convincing, which is one of the literal key features of a self-insert romcom. It completely fails at doing what it's genre is meant to do, and honestly, it's kind of weird? Some scenes were definitely cringe worthy and had me turning away from the screen. One of the later episodes has a plotline about the MC having a wet dream about Shiina and literally telling her about it. Nobody in their right mind would believe at that point that these two characters are "friends" or hiding their feelings for each other. If the last two episodes had happened earlier and the rest of the show was both characters dating I wouldn't mind this show as much as I do.
As a whole, it feels like this show was produced and especially written by delusional people. It portrays a relationship so beyond reality it is painful to watch. I'm also usually a huge fan of openings and this one really did not do it for me, it didn't fit the show at all. I feel bad if the source material isn't nearly as bad as this as Project No. 9 does not do a good job of adapting source content but unlike Tomozaki, the writing is not convincing at all.

Easily anime of the year for me. What an amazing series done by Cloverworks. I came in expecting not much, and left with one of my favorite anime works of all time already. One of the best soundtracks, with incredible instruments and voicing. The fact that the anime scenes were actually recorded live made them even better. The animation was immaculate. I hadn't seen such care and passion in a project in a very long time. Every episode my expectations were absolutely subverted by the animation, which made every moment, between the comedy, to the music, to the story and characters interactions far better than

anyone else could portray. Talking about the story, it was also unexpectedly great. For a genre which doesn't really necessitate a deep or interesting story, Bocchi The Rock goes far beyond the standard and sets up a story where you genuinely feel attached to the characters, especially Bocchi. The character design in tandem with the voice acting, animation, and more, set up the story to be surprisingly great, compared to other comedy/CDGCT anime. It is especially worth noting the voice acting, and specifically Yoshino Aoyama's role of Bocchi, her scenes were perfect and some (Ex. the scream) were some of the BEST VA'ing i have ever scene.
Nothing I say can really describe how great this anime is, I can't recommend it enough. One of the most quality shows I've watched, unexpectedly from this genre. I will grovel waiting for season 2 desperately as the manga does not do justice to the job Cloverworks have done.

This show was an absolute conundrum. The start was almost atrocious, and knew many people who dropped after a couple episodes, but in a fashion similar to Tomozaki's development, the adaptation of Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun does a complete 180 in terms of quality, story, character development, enjoyment, and even animation to an extent.
In terms of animation, this show suffers from a pretty lackluster studio (Project No. 9). There are many appearances of awkward anatomy, weird eye placement, confusing perspectives, and shoddy animation. However considering how low the budget for this series must've been, it was surprising to see some scenes being animated to a decent standard
...
(Especially the fanservice).
The soundtrack is generic at worst, enjoyable at best. However the opening is an absolute banger, and practically delivered itself in a silver platter to my Spotify playlist.
The story is where it gets weird. In the start, the show portrays itself as a "epic gamer guy is a total loser IRL and literal 'perfect' chick shows up and helps him". A very bad look, nevertheless. Cringe moments everywhere that only some extreme weeb could somewhat enjoy. Tomozaki is shown to be a boring character attempting to rip off somebody like Hachiman. The morality of the plot is brought into question as the "perfect" chick forces Tomozaki to do things he doesn't even understand, or might not want to. However, it is impressive how throughout the story, the problems of the quality of the story start to be resolved, and to an extent you can discover as to why such decisions in the story making were taken in earlier episodes. The series ends discussing the morality of the plotline, multiple character developments with side-characters receiving a decent amount of attention, and Tomozaki himself developing into one of the most unique characters I've seen in quite a while. The comedy is decent, and attempts to be original (Was never expecting a dick size joke in something like this), and the romance is great (Never too much of a focus, but enough to see character relationships progress)
If you do not like to stick around through bad episodes to get to the good stuff, this show might not be good for you, but I believe it's one of the better seasonal anime's we had in a while (Much better than something like the previous season) so if you enjoy the genre, you will most likely end up satisfied with watching the story. The LN seems like the superior way to experience this, to nobody's surprise.

"Tomo-chan is a girl!" is a rom com manga about a tomboy falling in love with her best friend who treats her like a boy. With a somewhat cliché setting in what is a slightly saturated genre, you'd expect this to be averagely mediocre.
Tomo-chan is one of the most enjoyable mangas I've read in a long time. It sets itself up as a classic romcom but it's format is very unique, being read as a one page chapter, for 953 chapters (So really 953 pages). It manages to fit solid comedy with great romance and relationship development. It has a great artstyle that drastically improves
...
through the course of the manga and the author has the ability to adapt their art style perfectly to different situations within the story (A comedic scene, a fight, a romantic scene, fanservice, etc.). The characters are legitimately a perfect 10/10, with most of them not only being able to be serious with their own trauma and stories but be hilarious and not fall into any cliché's. From Gundou Misuzu's mischievous antics to Carol's amazing deadpan comedy, yet these characters manage to develop in the story perfectly, as we see Carol show real emotion, and especially Tomo break out of her shell. It's almost as if the mangaka wrote a slice of life comedy like Lucky Star while writing something along the lines of ReLIFE's character development and packaged it all together and somehow it works extremely well. The only thing that is a shame is that the story is to an extent pretty linear/predictable and the way that the story holds out until the very end to resolve the climax without much aftermath.
Also Misuzu is best girl
