Some might see another 10 rating, and even that Yuru Camp is in my top 10 anime, and think I'll just be another person that showers unfathomable praise for the show. I feel like the show really can be made or broken by simply your first impressions with the content and its characters. If you can't like the characters, the show isn't for you. If you have no interest in the camping or the scenery, maybe it's not a 10 show for you. That's not the main thing I want to praise here. This might be one of my larger
...
reviews, let me know how I did.
Story/Art:
I'm tossing these two together because it follows a similar feature. Camping. There are two things that come with camping, it being the feature of the story, which isn't exactly too engaging outside of just "hey we want to camp, where are we going camping" and all the antics that have to do with Slice of Life anime. The art is the scenery of the campsites, which they do a phenomenal job of, including a special thing in the last episode that mirrors the first episode. Some might have seen the pictures, some might not have. Watch out for it, even watch the first ep again when you've finished the last episode of the show just to see what I'm talking about. The scenery is gorgeous, especially seeing the mountains (I grew up seeing a mountain from view of my house, so I appreciate those views).
Character:
Here we have basically 5 characters, though three are somewhat minor. The first two are Rin and Nadeshiko. Rin is an active camper and is seen throughout the show on her own solo adventures, which inspires Nadeshiko to start on some camping. Nadeshiko is hyper and is often compared to Kirby with her eating habits. I can actually only remember the name of Aoi past this, to show how minor the other three are, and I'm not going to cheat by looking them up. I think there's something about the characters each having a different accent that's actually neat to look up if you have an interest in it.
Sound:
This is the main thing I want to cover. The OST is phenomenal, it really represents each nature of the show quite well, and is topped off with the Opening and the Ending are utilized in each episode. Think of Nadeshiko each episode. She starts off hyper every episode, but as night hits and the camp gets quiet, even she calms down and is relaxing in the comfy levels the show is intended... now look at the two songs that surround the show. Shiny Days is a fast paced opening that really starts up a day feeling good, while Furu biyori is a calm, slow song that really fits with the relaxing aspect of the show. Which is actually entertaining since that's how an episode starts and ends too, it starts hyper, it shows off the scenery, and then steadily gets you comfy.
So enjoyment? If you love the idea of camping and seeing forests, rivers, just grasslands and don't mind seeing some cute girls doing the camping for you, watch away.

Altair is something I recommended to a few people because I was able to get through the beginning. To be honest, characters are fairly weak overall, and this is not a show for someone who puts too much emphasis on characters making their experience good or bad. No, this show is all on the story rating.
It's a historical fiction, it makes it pretty obvious what part of history they're covering and making an anime out of it. Now, this isn't over the top fiction, it's not a fantasy tossed into history... no... It's medieval politics and warfare. That's what I said
...
to anyone who wanted to hear me out. That is why I watched the show, and that's why I enjoyed it overall. It just ended a little weakly so not a great score coming out of me.

I talked to a close friend of mine at midseason and during our normal ranking of shows of the season, we hit a very different opinion of Konohana Kitan. He was watching with three other people, all of whom love kemonomimi, and they weren't enjoying the series as much as they could. I, however, watched the show in spite of it being kemonomimi when I don't like the fetish of anthromorphic characters and watched it just because it's a Slice of Life... but I enjoyed it far more than the other three... Why?
This show is not character based, it's setting based. Unlike
...
most SoLs, this has only a little to do with character interactions and more to do with Japanese mythology. The characters frequently tend to gods and goddesses, and interact with them, as well as ghosts, apparitions, and other similar types of characters. This fact has to be interesting to the viewer to truly enjoy this show. So I highly recommend this show to fans of Touhou.

In this case, we have characters based on the Zodiac in a battle royale, it is not the most unique way of telling things, but it's nice if you can find a few characters you like. There's a lot of backstories, even the first episode is mostly just world building and backstory.
Honestly, the only reason I'm writing this, is because someone had to tell me this exists. For those that call this story predictable... it is. Because it's the retelling of something. In the 10th episode, one character makes a reference to a specific something. I cannot give spoilers here,
...
but if you pm me I can explain if you would like. The reference, is what Juuni Taisen is a retelling of, just in a different setting.
My only real problem, is I told myself midway if I did not like the winner, I would not like the show. Not because of wah I want X to win, but whether I just like the winner's personality, and no, the character was boring. While I liked a few other contestants, he and the 12th episode just leave a sour taste of finishing the story. I hope I've made sense.
