It's about an average guy and a girl who is unrealistically idolized in school. Komi has anxiety issues to an extreme degree where she finds herself unable to talk to anyone except through writing.
What it did well:
The male protagonist, Tadano, is realistically average. He is not a loser or otaku or cringe, he's actually just an average guy with average characteristics. He gets nervous at times with Komi, but it's a realistic amount of nervousness and he often finds the courage to actually get through the nervous situations which I enjoyed. to you, but I thought they realistically represented what an average student would be rather than someone who is spectacularly talented or someone who is exceptionally useless and pathetic.
Osana Najimi is a very strong character. They do a great job of introducing plot points, propelling the story, and adding in humor. Definitely my favorite character in the show.
What it did poorly:
Komi is somewhat unlikable from the viewer's perspective (IMO). She is frequently put on a pedestal by the other students and worshipped because of her looks. Fortunately, she has a reasonable personality, but because she doesn't communicate much at all (as the title mentions...), you don't get to understand much about her or who she is other than when she writes about her problem in the first episode to Tadano. It becomes hard to empathasize with her anxiety when everyone in the class adores her so much and you don't get to understand much about who she is.
Like the above point, it gets rather tiring seeing everyone constantly adore and worship Komi. It often feels like a nuisance and detractor from the main plot line.
Overall:
I enjoyed the show and would recommend it. Tadano and Najimi are likable characters with a lot of screentime and the romantic sub-plot (as MAL puts is) is entertaining to see develop. If you decide to watch, hopefully you will find Komi herself more likable than I did.
