I have read Shuumatsu no Walküre, and I am caught up with the current chapter. I was very excited to see this anime aired, as for being a straight up tournament arc it would have been sick... if Netflix didn't adapt it.
STORY: 8/10 (Very Good)
The story is great, the stories for each god/human fighting are accurate for the most part, so this anime could be somewhat treated as a history lesson as well. As well, humans fighting for their lives in a one on one tournament against gods is cool as hell.
ART: 3/10 (Poor)
Might just be me, but I don't really like how
...
the art style is. Goll looks pretty stupid at times (although it's intentional to make her look stupid during specific parts, it just looks awful like drawn in paint.net). The animation is quite weak as well, I am watching some pretty awful done backstories to then see a 10 FPS fight... for maybe 10 seconds. This is the key selling point of Shuumatsu no Walküre, which is a massive problem. Oh yeah, they used CG at the start bit with Lu Bu, which is pretty bad too. Why did they even use CG for that?
SOUND: 5/10 (Mediocre)
The OST is okay, but nothing spectacular. I didn't notice anything worth notice about the fight sound effects either.
CHARACTER: 7/10 (Good)
The characters are cool, but it's mostly the humans. None of the gods leave any impact, they're just kinda all cocky. Their backstories are always cool, as they're famous people and gods, that're taught by watching this anime. While reading, I honestly preferred their backstories (though they are exaggerated) to the actual action bits. In the anime all the characters seemed less serious than they should be though, as if they're not fighting for life or death for all of humanity.
ENJOYMENT: 4/10 (Decent)
I mean, I like the characters I guess? That's the only reason my rating of a 4 for enjoyment is any higher than Poor. Most of the voices are very annoying to listen to, and there is little to no fighting, when there is it's for maybe 15 seconds. Not to mention, they looped a 2 second fighting animation throughout one of the fights.
OVERALL: 4 (Decent)
To start I had little expectations, as it was adapted by Netflix. I expected it to be better than Yasuke, which it was, but not by much. I was expecting at least a 6 rating of a show, which was also somehow let down. If you are let down by this anime, and interested in the story, please read the manga! It is great, and the chapters are quite long, although they are monthly.
Something tells me this will not receive a second season.
