I don't understand why so many people absolutely love this anime. Like...Are we seeing the same anime or are people confusing this for another anime that's actually good? If not then I hope this is just a really weird meme.
The characters are bland and are so blank and boring that I honestly can't even remember their names as they're all extremely interchangeable. Not to mention one of the teenagers engages in sexual relations with a teacher who is a grown adult. I know that people have a fetish for milfs, but let's really think about the sentence of "These girls in high school are totally

sexy dude!" Like...Anybody? Just me who thinks it's gross to sexualize a teenager regardless of gender? Okay then...
The animation is surprisingly very good, like I'm honestly VERY surprised on it being so good. Raining scenes in particular look quite gorgeous with the droplets and color palette being very reminiscent of the animation of Makoto Shinkai and Kyoto Animation. The animation itself is very good too with characters having an interesting facial design and I don't see any errors but all of that kind of gets ruined when there's a shot of a 15/16 year old girl's ass right in front of my face when I'm trying to admire the really good animation. It almost feels like wasted potential, even if this turns out to just be an anime just to build this company's resume to make something with actual substance to it.
Soundtrack is pretty good, there's soft pianos and overall quite relaxing music and is very faint. Though sound design itself is poor when ripped tights sound more like crinkling paper than they do actual ripping fabric which I guarantee are VERY different sounds.
Maybe I'm the wrong demographic, go ahead and say that because I probably am, but that doesn't mean I can't criticize this anime for being a piece of shit. You can have an anime be for a certain demographic and have people who don't even like that demographic enjoy it. (I for one, hate most shounen anime but there are some that I do enjoy a lot)
I just hope this is just a weird meme going around just because people really like to make memes of weird things or something because this is no way is a good anime. It's garbage and simply just a horrifically boring and gross visual demo for a studio that I at least hopes goes on to make something that's actually good for a change.

I feel like this OVA should have definitely been in the original run for Miss Kobayashi's dragon maid! Though given the finale takes place around January (i think? It has been a while) I'm sure it would have thrown off the vibes the original finale had. However, this was a really cute OVA!
It was sweet to see Tohru and Kobayashi's relationship on Valentines day along with the usual comedy the series has. Though i did notice the fanservice was turned up pretty high this time around but the usually tends to happen with slice of life comedies with a bunch of girls that go

Yuri On Ice has gotten a lot of hate about it since it started to get popular, and frankly i don't understand why. It's not a light novel adaptation, generic or another Free! (I mean i enjoyed Free but it is a little stale now as i get older). This is honestly my favorite anime of all time, and while some may judge for it just keep it mind there's worse anime to call your favorite.

story for fujoshis? eeehhh I guess if you're one of those fujoshi who see two men standing five feet apart and start freaking out because they're now your OTP. It's not fujoshi bait to me, it doesn't try to make you think they aren't together and then it turns out they're not. My best example of this bait is Free!. The whole anime made you think the men were together in some way then you see certain things happen that blatantly say it's friendship, this isn't the case with Yuri On Ice. Viktor and Yuuri have been confirmed multiple times by multiple staff members that they are in a relationship and that infamous kiss was censored on TV airings, it's uncensored in the blue ray actually. The story follows our protagonist Yuuri through maybe 10/12 episodes, the other two episodes follows his coach and later fiance Viktor. The whole point and message of Yuuri On Ice is that for those who lack faith in themselves, love from those closest to you (whether that be family or a romantic partner) will always give you that boost of confidence you need to achieve your dreams. I would say love and support are the biggest themes of this series, something i honestly don't see in sports anime. I often see the main character rely on ignoring what they're told they can't do, which is good to, but i think showing that support and love will always help those who need it is a lot better and more understanding of a message. Yes, i suppose the pacing is fast for a anime like this. Perhaps it could've had 15 episodes, but i honestly think 12 was a good amount. Any longer and there would've been episodes to call 'nothing but filler' and any shorter then the plot would be completely incoherent. Side plots like Yuri P trying to outdo everyone, JJ's thing and Mikey's thing are all welcomed but i do admit they could've been a little more fleshed out - especially JJ. We see him for only a few episodes and only ever see the confident side of him before he breaks down but i think it can make sense. I have seen people with JJ's confidence before, and i have seen them suffer breakdowns like he did because they shut away too much pressure and so it built up and caused it. Still, despite it's flaws the story is moving and incredibly to me.
ART- The art style is not too much to say, but i still enjoy it. The animation was another thing people complained about and I'm gonna be honest, most skating routines outside of Yuuri's were not animated very well. Minami's routine felt the stiffest out of all the routines. I noticed reused animation as well, especially for Mikey's free program where he's using History Maker's choreography is certain scenes. Still, i think Yuuri's scenes were done beautiful although the first couple times for Eros' routine looked a little shaky. Now Yuri On Ice was done on an extremely tight schedule and the creator often had to fight against producers for certain scenes to be even in this anime, so perhaps this was why we got the finished product we had. Still, the animation of stunning when they didn't have the flaws. For instance, Yuri's Free Program routine was animated incredibly and the intro was absolutely stunning! It's flawed, but there's been worse animation in the past.
SOUND- This soundtrack is absolutely incredible! So many different styles of music to match that all these characters come from different parts of the globe. You have classical pieces, as many skaters often do and then you have really sick electronic music in other routines! The voice acting is excellent as well, even the English dub is really good. Though i will admit, i did not like the choice of Viktor's actor. They could've chosen someone else and in the first episode he sounds more like Gru from despicable me but everyone else did a good job! Especially when doing the accents, though i didn't care for Chris' accent and tone as it felt like the complete opposite of the original actor. However, i can look past it. Can i also say that the intro and ending songs are absolutely fantastic pieces of music? History Maker is the perfect song when you need that motivation and the ending song is that awesome song you dance to with your friends at a party! One song i would like to touch on, is Yuri On Ice. It's the song for Yuuri's free program and honestly it's a song that touched me. It doesn't have lyrics, it's just a piano and few other classical instruments, but goodness did it's melody and rhythm move me in ways music hasn't before. This is a song that i felt described myself and a song i could connect with and understand why Yuuri felt it was a true song to describe his entire career as a skater. Perhaps i sound too overly emotional when i say this, but i did cry upon first hearing that beautiful song.
CHARACTERS- This is the most important part for the series. If Yuri On Ice didn't have strong relate able characters and a respect for the cultures these characters came from, this series would be absolutely awful. Yuuri as a character is one i identify with most, the only anime character i can truly feel is like a anime version of myself but a man. His struggles mirrored my own and the way he felt about being around his idol is how i feel when around those i look up to. He strongly resonated with me and is now my favorite character in a anime. Ask yourself this, how many times do we see a character in a anime with clear anxiety disorder and have constant breakdowns? Not that often and if so it's the cutesy "aw you're stressed look how cute she looks!". Yuuri's anxiety is realistic, his thoughts are realistic as well. Next is Viktor, his idol. Viktor is pretty much the exact kind of person someone with anxiety wants. He's so understanding, kind and sweet but at the same time he's strict and even he can be fragile sometimes. Viktor is really someone you would hope to find in real life or maybe you hope to be like him - a true friend/boyfriend/fiance/husband/coach/etc that you hope will always be there for you. Next up is Yuri P, who broke boundaries for me as a rival character. I am so used to the tsundere Rin Matsuoka type who don't start having a heart or caring until the last minute of the finale after they suffer some kind of breakdown/issue with their parents. Yuri P is still that tsundere type, but he actually does care about other's not just himself. He even makes a friend on his own, absolutely adores his grandfather and gifts Yuuri piroshikis on his birthday. He's a angry teenager but that's his flaw. I also appreciated that they didn't give him a overly tragic backstory like what they did with Rin to make us understand why he acts the way he does. He just is a determined boy and a hormonal teenager, and that's a more realistic than other rivals in anime. JJ is another character to love, despite the hate everyone has for him and his very short appearance. Is he overly confident? Yes, but i don't understand why the hate for it. He isn't that kind of confidence that literally bullies people to add to his own ego or openly calls everyone crap while he's the best. He just believes in himself, perhaps so much that he didn't realize he was setting the bar so high for himself that he broke down, that's realistic to me when someone has to high of a confidence. Phichit is great as well as a character! I feel like maybe he could've used more spotlight but i still absolutely loved his personality and how sweet he was. His dreams were charming and he was one of those people who just loves the thing they're doing. Can i also say i love how female skaters were represented in this series? Sure it's not a lot, but finally a sports anime treats women really good without making her super involved with the sport itself. There's no Gou/Kou like girl here, and i appreciate that. It just felt a little weird to me that every sports anime I've seen had a woman lead the group of guys as if the guys didn't know what they were doing or shove one in simply to create the 'real' love interest for the guy. I like that the girl Yuuri was skating to was a married woman and was simply friends with him instead of shoving a 'haha this is the REAL love interest!' trope which i definitely don't like.
Overall this anime is just spectacular. I'll be honest, it is for a tiny market and not everyone is gonna enjoy this. ESPECIALLY if you don't like figure skating, because if you don't you're definitely going to be pretty upset with it. I wanna reiterate one more time that this anime is NOT fujoshi bait, only people think it is because they're not used to seeing a canon couple in a anime without it getting tagged as "BL" or "YAOI" somewhere. Like i say earlier here, the creators and staff working on it have 100% confirmed that Viktor and Yuuri ARE CANON. Another reason is that if you're maybe someone who doesn't like the occasional fanservice (i didn't state it here because Yuri On Ice's fan service is really tame compared to other ones I've seen with girls soo...) involving men then yeah you're not gonna enjoy it either. Basically only those who love figure skating, don't mind the fan service, can fully accept a male couple in the lead and look past it's flaws can someone really see the beauty of Yuri On Ice. If this is a anime even real life figure skaters adore, then surely that's something to be said about it right? Last i checked i don't see professional volleyball players watching Haikyuu!! or Micheal Phelps watching Free!
Just to me, this anime will forever be my favorite of all time. And i can't wait for the movie and season 2!

Kuroshitsuji - or Black Butler as it's called in English speaking countires - is a pretty okay anime adaptation of Yana Toboso's incredible work. Since the manga is not finished, it does try to make up it's own conclusion to the series.
STORY (spoilers ahead, skip if you wish)- Everything follows a similar path to Yana's original work for a large majority aside from certain episodes (and arc endings) that are changed to fit the anime only finale. interesting idea to have the woman Ciel had worked for be the one to kill his parents but the reasoning behind everything she did feels lazily written. Yes, the stuff with her husband is sad (and what she does is disgusting) but i don't understand that status quo ending where she becomes a normal elderly woman again. Why make her look like a child as well? I doubt she wanted to look young, she just wanted her husband back. I suppose they did that so people would be like "prettyyyyy~" and wouldn't think she did anything wrong when i think it's less suspicious if she was still a elderly woman. Angela/Ash made no sense to me either. Their motivations feel incredibly murky. Were they kicked out of Heaven? Why can they change genders? Why did they want to make a pact with a demon when they clearly despise? Sebastian leaving Ciel felt.....just really desperate to get Ciel his motivation back too.
ART- Unlike it's second season, the art quality is very high for this. They did a fantastic job recreating Yana's art style and the coloring is both dark yet beautiful choices in palette. The backdrops are stunning at how detailed they are. Even different times of days have incredible colors. My only complaint is i noticed some character's colors were changed from the manga (Mei-Rin's dress being dark blue instead of black). I'll explain my thoughts on the characters later but i do enjoy the designs of everyone. My favorite is Drocell's design (even if he does look like Joker suspicious, funny as the circus arc did start around the time of the first anime's production right?)
SOUND - Both the English dub and Japanese versions acting is pretty good! With the English dub I would say some actors didn't try hard with their accents (Bardroy and Drocell didn't do well to me). I do prefer the English dub over the Japanese for this series so i don't have many comments to make about the original version. The music is good as well, incredible orchestral sounds! I would say that sometimes i heard rock music or something like that in the show and i don't think that fits the tone of Black Butler. The other music matches Black Butler's refined yet exciting aesthetic while the rock feels honestly pretty over done in comparison. The intro is pretty good, a classic opening song. The ending ones are good too, though i find I'M ALIVE is maybe a little unfitting for Black Butler mostly due to it's beat? That's just me, of course i absolutely adore the song.
CHARACTERS - As i say in story, i feel like The Queen, Angela and Ash are lacking here. Pluto felt like a BIG out of character moment for everyone involved in Black Butler. I get they wanted a character who was cool and funny but a demon wolf that turns into a man? That doesn't work out for me. It doesn't help that no one questions it too much, not even guests seem to question a giant wolf in their garden! I'd have explain this in story but this mostly feels fitting for character. Of course the original characters of Yana like Sebastian, Ciel, Finnian, Grell, Madam Red, etc are fantastically written. Though, i do feel like Grell was unnecessary in a lot of arcs. She feels like she was kinda put in lazily like a fan fiction for Black Butler, maybe less Grell would have been for the best. I also feel like Lau was incredibly OOC in this one as well. He is a snake and has a opium den, but i doubt he'd try to start another war especially after having seen the horrors of it first hand judging by the backstory he had. Now, the Queen feels really strange for me. Yes, it is natural for her to feel misery after her husband died but how broken did she have to be to let a angel sew her husband's corpse onto her and make her look like she's Ciel's age? None of that makes any sense and feels like they had a lot of trouble. Angela/Ash is also one that feels lazily written and could've used a better explanation. Why couldn't they have made them angel TWINS? I imagine the battle would've been even crazier if we watched Sebastian battle twin angels and take them down without breaking a sweat. It also makes it confusing as to which one is the real gender, is Angela or Ash the real one? Drocell, who appeared in that strange ring arc, was okay. He felt much like if you sucked the life out of Joker from the manga/2nd anime's second arc. Aberline was so far from his manga counterpart though, it's ridiculous and interesting at the same time. It was nice to have him act as a sort of father figure to Ciel as not even in the manga do we see that, but i don't appreciate what they did with him as a whole.
Overall Black Butler is a really enjoyable anime. This was the first anime i watched that wasn't considered for children in America (as before this the only anime I had seen was Yu Gi Oh, Digimon and Pokemon) so there is a lot of childhood nostalgia for it as well. However, looking back many plot elements didn't age well for me.

-Black Butler II has a LOT going for, but only if you ignore the final few episodes of the previous season. I already had some mixed feelings about the ending of the first season, but that's for a different review somewhere else, and to see a continuation after such a concrete ending is definitely a red flag already for those wondering about seeing the second season.
-The story here is an absolute MESS. It feels like a first draft written by a intern than it does something that can be similar to Yana-sensei's original artwork in her manga. There's so many continuity issues, plot holes
...
and dropped side plots that it's almost pathetic here. A character is alive despite clearly dying in the last season, it is never explained how Sebastian knows Claude, another character gets a random twin brother that looks/acts more like their manga counterpart despite the original character stating they were a lonely orphan, why did Claude pick Sebastian of all people to make Alois think he needed to act revenge on and what happens to the Trancy estate by the end of it. There's so many here i feel like this review would go on forever here. It's just a flat out mess and definitely needed either 12 more episodes (making it 24 like the last season) or maybe even 2 more. 12 episodes were just not enough to fix the issues. For those wondering as well, no OVA fixes any of these plot issues as well.
-The art this season is at it's all time low. The first two episodes are really great with their animation but the rest it is extremely inconstant. Look at the style of episode 4 and then to episode 7 where there is a clear change in style and lighting. It almost looks like two different people drew different episodes. Not to mention the awful errors i noticed and pretty poorly drawn faces not even in the background. I noticed a heavier use of CGI this season as well. Last season i didn't notice it but this one was way more prominent especially with the train and horses. You would think with how much they made off the first season that they would actually have a higher budget, but no apparently. The promotional art is a million times better than the art in the actual anime unfortunately.
-Music is pretty good this season, a lot of fast paced violins and a few pieces from the first season's soundtrack do make a return occasionally. A enjoyable classical style though i find a few rock-sounding songs don't really fit the tone of Black Butler at all outside of the opening. Speaking of which, the openings (2 for this season) are both pretty good and i enjoy the song quite a lot.
-The characters have a LOT of potential. Alois Trancy and Claude Faustus are the most interesting characters this season and are a fascinating pair considering they are almost a opposite/dysfunctional version of Sebastian and Ciel. However their characters never really get a opportunity to shine. We never see Alois and Claude on their own and how Alois' position with the queen really works. I honestly feel that maybe Black Butler II should have focused solely on these two instead of trying to shove in Ciel and Sebastian (Perhaps make this season like Yu Gi Oh GX where the torch is passed to someone else). The other newly introduced characters are the demon triplets, but they don't talk and very underdeveloped so it's hard to properly judge them. I suppose they're alright, but it's hard to judge characters only in the background. There is Luca, who is Alois' brother (though we honestly have no clue if it's biological or adoption) and the reason behind his motivation. He's quite adorable, to some his motivation MAY be a little psychopathic but he is a small child with no sense of right/wrong so...
The last character introduced is Hannah Anafelloz - the worst newly introduced character. Sure she had done her job and had faced compelling forces, but her motivations made no sense. She wanted Alois and to attack Claude, it makes no sense for her to go after Sebastian as well when he has done nothing but defend himself (and even said something decently polite to her when they first met). It also makes no sense for her to hide what she knows, all she would have had to do is say the truth when Alois was most vulnerable during a fit and then none of those would have happened! She just feels like a awfully written foil character and while they try to make us feel bad for her, her negatives outweigh her positive ones. Everyone else is the same, except Lau made no sense. He had done some awful things to Ciel yet continues to still work for him? That felt immensely desperate that i almost wonder if he was a Easter egg for a species from the manga (as the atlantic arc was written around the same time i believe). Everyone else's roles were too small to judge but they are from the original cast and i still enjoy them (such as Finny, Lizzy, etc)
-Overall Black Butler II is almost a guilty pleasure. It's a mess and completely awful to watch but the characters of Alois and Claude honestly make up for it just a little bit. I still don't recommend this unless you are a major Black Butler fan and just want to see Ciel and Sebastian do anything even just standing and breathing. For regular fans, i don't recommend this. Just skip this and watch the reboot.

Kotoura-san has a lot going for it. Good art style, very good voice acting, the male lead has a personality and some good moments. However, i feel as though Kotoura-san isn't good at figuring out it's tone.
Not saying you can't mix angst and comedy, because you can, but you should pick when in a scene is a funny moment okay. A sad moment will happen and a perverted based joke will happen in the same scene. I feel like maybe they should have put the funnier moments after the sad scene to try and lighten up the mood instead of the middle of it.

It doesn't help that often these sad moments contain heavy subjects for some people and you go and try to lighten it up in the middle of it? That feels very conflicting to me. A lot of the jokes don't really preform well as every joke is based on perverted humor and not maybe a clever pun or something else.
I would say the biggest mishandling is the main character as what's set up about her doesn't match what goes on in the anime. Yes it is beautiful that a girl like her finally makes friends but the way her personality is doesn't match up her backstory at all. I would still recommend it because when the sadder moments happen it's VERY well written but the comedy moments and everything else isn't written very good.
