This is a pretty good addition to the first season. The main thing you get out of this is new character development for the cast. I feel like this was the main goal of this whole season. The first season fleshed out the world and the second season fleshed out the characters. It flows into the first part pretty naturally and doesn't really lose anything the first season had.
I've heard some people remark about how there isn't enough drive in the second season but I feel like this is okay for the show because Myne's goals were naturally ... met and the show has an overall lighthearted feel to it so this doesn't hinder your overall viewing experience.

Ascension of a bookworm's key pro is obviously the world building. This is the first isekai in a while I've seen that genuinely worries about the limits of a citizen in a centuries old world. There's lots of little things it pays attention to and I really like that. In fact, most my issues with the anime aren't good critique, more just choices that don't fit my taste but that's not very valid. Things like the very saturated, cartoony style or the fact that not a lot happens. Things happen, the show just clearly isn't trying to be a drama. ... The animation admittedlty isn't the best but I've seen worse.
One thing that does bug me is how a lot of the adults treat Myne like she's also an adult. They acknowledge a little that she's a minor but the fact that she makes trade deals and signs contracts and everything despite being literally five is just kinda weird. I know that she's an adult that got isekaied into a child but nobody else knows that.
The world reminds me a lot of spice and wolf. They both feel like they're based off the same century and roughly the same place in Europe, even though ascension of a bookworm's world is fictional. Something ascension of a bookworm does better then spice and wolf is the attention to how poverty affects the lives of the people living in the world. Things like how people think commoners don't have magic, the way she's treated differently after people learn that her family is poor, it all feels very real and really makes the world feel real. It's a nice touch my little anarcho communist heart can't get enough of.

Shiki is pretty good as far as vampire anime go. I've seen better but oh there are so many that're worse. Shiki tries to give you a moral dilemma about what makes things acceptable, what it means to be human and the morality of murder. I think they pull this off pretty well but it's not like they really broke any new ground with any hot takes. Shiki's takes are lukewarm and I'm still drinking it cause it's not bad.
As far as the plot goes, it's pretty okay but once you get into the meat of the story, it ... slows down a lot. I like slow burns a lot and I know that story telling like this is pretty common in horror works but I feel like the horror itself isn't spooky enough to carry the weight of the story. It's not that it's slow that's the issue exactly, more just that the story feels directionless for a while. Spoilers for the first episode in the next paragraph.
I really like what was done with Megumi in the first episode. The way that they mislead you into believing she's the protagonist to make the deaths in the village feel much heavier is a bamboozle I'm always here for and genuinely did not see coming.
The story is pretty tasteful and while it definitely isn't perfect, I'd say it's good.

The best thing about this show is definitely the animation. It's a very nice looking show.
The main issue with it though is just how unengaging it is. This show is just a generic shounen with a fire theme and while that could be okay, it's really hard to get invested. This might be an issue with the pacing, I'm not sure. It definitely got worse in the second season which leads me to believe that someone in the production of this show stopped caring. The story isn't that bad, don't get me wrong, it just feels like once you've seen ... season one, you don't really need the second.

I had to take many, many cold showers after watching this show and I am sure that I have been added to some sort of watch list for finishing it.
This show is just blatant pedophilia. I can understand a 600 year old vampire loli or something of the sort; hell, I can even understand full on loli hentai existing but this show crosses the line for me. What makes this show so unsettling is the rationalization of pedophilia. It portrays the situation Aoki-sensei finds himself in as out of his control and not a very bad thing, partially because of ... that. It also portrays third graders as being a bit too mature, as if they could handle, or even understand the sexual situations they're constantly remarking about and being in during the entirety of the show. I'm not sure if the author of the manga has ever met a third grader. It's not just the sexual things, they all have phones and kononae-chan even casually went to the store on her own once like that was normal. If you saw an 8 year old girl alone in a store, you would be very alarmed for the safety of the child but no, this is okay apparently. This kind of thing is the problem with the show. It acts like a relationship between a fully grown adult and an elementary school student isn't a one sided thing and would be okay. Anybody that speaks up in the show about how Aoki isn't handling kononae's actions properly are framed like bad people. ei a super strict teacher who doesn't know what fun is or a trauma filled insane teen. This avoids the issue at hand that Aoki, a full grown man, is obviously a pedophile and should have never became a teacher in the first place.
If it was just the pedophilia I had a problem with I might not have rated Kodomo no Jikan a one star but this just isn't a good show in any way. All the characters are really flat and the animation is really bad too. I looked up what other anime came out around this time, thinking maybe it was dated but no, it's just bad. So, so bad.

There isn't much that I can say about this show that hasn't already been said since it's such an icon of 90's anime. The animation and character types don't hold up too well by today's standards but this is probably one of the best anime from before the 2000's out there and keeping the age of the series in mind, I think it preforms really well in many ways. The story is really engaging and I find the protagonist interesting as a character.
The ending is very strange to me though and while I do appreciate the extra character development, it feels a bit ... too meta and out of place for me. I haven't seen any of the movies yet or even read the manga so having this as an introduction to the series makes me wonder if I'm missing something.
Another thing that sort of bugs me is that I wish we had more time to get to know Kaworu. In a perfect version of this anime, I'd wish he was introduced a bit earlier on so him and Shinji's relationship could naturally progress a bit more.

Kuzu no Honkai is pretty good but nothing that'll really blow your socks off. It's the kind of show to watch when you're tired of feel good romance anime and want some of that more realistic shit. Pretty much everyone sucks in one way or another in the series, some more then others; while this can come off as infuriating, I really like this. It's a much more real vibe then 95% of romance anime so if that's what you're looking for, you'll love it. however, because of this, I feel like anyone coming to watch this for escapism reasons won't ... enjoy it. Some of the lewder scenes may make people uncomfortable too but I'm not sure if that's a pro or a con.
One thing that definitely is a pro though is the art. Kuzu no Honkai takes takes the art just the extra step further then what most anime are willing to do ad it shows. Frequently, it'll cut to shots that look like they could be manga covers and they're integrated well enough that this isn't jarring to the viewer. Not only that but some shots are sort of like manga panels in the way they overlay and I think this is a nice tough.
Kuzu no Honkai is a rough, grim and lewd romance. It's refreshingly realistic but at the end of the day the story isn't much different then most romance so, 7/10.

This anime is amazing. One of the things that makes it so great is that it doesn't really feel like anime. The character designs are very unique, it pulls off the 3D animation very well, and the dub is surprisingly good. I prefer subs over dubs and I watched this show exclusively in dub with no complaints whatsoever.
I really enjoy the story, it's about as good as it gets for furry anime. Beastars answers the questions about how society is run that a lot of anthro shows and movies don't. You really get immersed into the world like a lot ... of shows fail to do. Very Tasty.

In all honesty, Overlord II was disappointing. The first season wasn't that bad, I like having a more evil roll for a protagonist, and having less of a generic underdog character. Having said that, this season did not live up to the hype. The story branches out to many side character and while I usually enjoy something like this, you don't really grow attached to anyone and none of the fight scenes carried any weight as a result.
The animation overall wasn't that bad, the 2D scenes seemed pretty standard but oh god, the 3D was so bad. Copy pasted ... soldiers, poorly rendered monsters, etc. I don't think all 3D in anime is bad but it doesn't blend well at all here and really breaks your immersion.
