I was fully skeptical of this being a good anime when I read the plot and I remember the rating was around 7.5 when it first came out. I thought this anime could never work out. Mixing a dungeon-style anime with cooking as the main theme? Get outta here....
But after binging 24 episodes in 2 days, I can fully say this is one of the best animes I have ever seen. It's smart, mature, funny, exciting, dramatic...I could go on. I believe the best forms of entertainment are able to hit on a wide range of emotions and Dungeon Meshi does exactly that.
I would say
...
that the central theme of Dungeon Meshi is that regardless of your background, we all have things in common and can relate to each other if we choose to be open to other's differences. This is primarily expressed through food being a commonality across all species.
The thing I most appreciate about Dungeon Meshi is that it is clearly written for a more mature audience. I don't say this because of all the blood and death, but because a huge focus of the show is on relationships and what it means to make a connection with someone else. That idea alone is not something you truly understand until you get older. Also, unlike your typical shounens, this show explains almost everything in a logical manner that makes sense so it doesn't take you out of the immersion which I feel is a tough task for most animes.
And as this show is focused on relationships, there is a huge amount of dialogue. I don't think I've seen an action anime have this much dialogue. And I'm saying this as a good thing, because I never found myself tuning out the dialogue. Everything said feels purposeful and it really allows you to connect with each character. Sadly since I read subtitles, I probably do not fully understand the nuance to what is being said, but the show is just that good at expressing the words through everything else that I feel I fully understand the weight behind every word.
This leads me to my next point: Dungeon Meshi has some of the most well-written characters I have seen in an anime show. Beyond the character designs (which are amazing), the show does a wonderful job at introducing us to characters and then continually reveal bits and pieces of their backstory to understand their motivations and why they choose to act or say what they do. Despite their being so many different characters, I felt fully connected to most of them which completely elevated my viewing experience.
I'm this deep and I didn't even get to talking about the plot itself...I could probably go on and on, but I'll just stop there. Look, I may be biased in that I enjoy cooking, but the show is genuinely good. In summary, I would say Dungeon Meshi falls into its very own anime niche that takes a very shouneny concept which is usually plot-driven but flips that and makes it almost fully character-driven. With solid writing, characters, and artwork, Dungeon Meshi will be at the top of my list of animes I am looking forward to.

Aite, I didn't think I would ever give this anime an 8 rating, but when I saw this season's ratings, I knew I had to binge watch the first 4 seasons.
And I'll be honest, is this season worth watching 4 seasons of mediocre harem shounen anime? For most people, probably not, but I do love me some junk food anime every once in a while so I pushed through it. I would probably average the first four seasons to like a 6.5 rating.
Season 5 feels like Avengers Endgame. It's a culmination of the first four seasons all colliding together in an epic battle.
...
If I had to give credit to this anime given all its downsides, I have to say it has some very solidly-written characters who act 2-dimensional 90% of the time but the 10% of the time they deviate makes for some pretty intriguing moments. All the characters who we all wondered about for the first 4 seasons finally get their backstory and plot twists revealed, and man is it enjoyable to watch.
The animation, action, intensity, everything is upped this season. As light-hearted as this anime tends to be, I think this season had some pretty dramatic moments that actually invoked some emotion in my dead self.
So overall, this season definitely deserves the high rating even if the previous seasons don't. Ultimately, if you are willing to watch the first four seasons, you will thoroughly enjoy this season.

If I had to describe Blue Box, I would say " A Romance Anime for the Boys".
Not to say that sports animes are only for boys, but the story being centered around a strong male protagonist who has the love interest of two of the most kawaii girls in the school makes me say it is catered to a male audience on top of it being related to sports.
Now the main question: Is it a sports anime or a romance anime? Realistically, it's like 70% romance, 30% sports in terms of what is shown on screen though the theme of sports is
...
foundational to the story itself. I would love to see better badminton rallies animated but I'm sure that sh*t be expensive af to animate.
I'm no romance anime veteran, I rarely watch the genre, so I'm not sure if what is being shown in stereotypical romance anime tropes or if it is fresh stuff. All I can really say is that there is some level of complexity to the relationships where its not as predictable as you would expect. I would say all the characters in the show are likable and make logical choices/mistakes which makes the whole love triangle situation pretty interesting.
All in all though, this romance anime really speaks to the hearts of all adolescent boys out there who are working hard to try to be the best athlete they can be while also wanting to be with the cutest girl at school. If that doesn't appeal to you then you will not enjoy this anime.

Early viral reviews have led to Acolyte levels of blind hate towards Blue Lock, and it is definitely unwarranted.
The biggest gripe people have with the season is the animation on early episodes. Were they laughable and bad? Sort of? I didn’t really mind it that much because 1) these are low stakes, predicrable episodes. Why waste budget animating these scenes? 2) i honestly didn’t notice it that much, 3) a bunch of cool new characters were introduced which was more noticeable, and 4) I forgot all about that stuff when the U20 match started
The anime score is slowly self-correcting itself, and I am glad people
...
have some common sense. If you liked season 1, season 2 has a huge payoff in the final 2 episodes that is absolutely worth watching. I would give it more of a 7.5/10 but will round down because the esrly episodes are just not good enough to warrant a 8.

Hesitant to give my first 10/10 rating but ultimately I think Dandadan deserves it. I will preface by saying I have not researched much on the author, manga, or other reviews.
Dandadan IS anime.
It is a comedy, drama, romance, action, sci-fi, supernatural, slice-of-life, shounen, and school-life packed into one crazy plot. To me, it seems like the show is trying to combine the best parts of those genres together, and crazily enough, it works. Like think about taking the emotion of Your Name, throwing in the absurdity of Mob Psycho, and adding the action of My Hero Academia into one show.
One thing you’ll notice while watching
...
this show is how Japanese it is. I’m a red-blooded American and even I feel how Japanese it all is. Now, I’m sure native Japanese people will appreciate these elements more but I love the cultural influence on the show because at the end of the day Anime is Japanese.
Speaking of influences, I noticed that the author or animation director clearly appreciates film and movies as there are influences from outside anime included. The most obvious one to my peabrain was Jurassic Park. I say this to point out that as absurd as this show is, it is made by smart people who know how to create a good story.
I won’t talk much about the plot other than to say that it works because it so damn simple yet so entertaining.
The characters in this show are the real stars. Honestly, it’s crazy how developed and unique each character feels after only 1-2 episodes. Even side characters with barely any screen time feel fleshed out and purposeful.
I will say that if this is one of the first animes you watch, you may not “get” it or at least not enjoy it as much as a seasoned weeb because it uses so many elements from all types of animes.
Overall, I think Dandadan will be the new standard when it comes to modern anime. It maybe a little too crazy for mass consumption, but Demon Slayer can maintain that spot. Dandadan is for the weebs.

Look Wistoria is the most stereotypical Anime alive. It contains every Shounen anime trope imaginable: Lame MC who is actually a sleeper OP character, childhood orphan love story, side chick who loves MC just cause, boy's love, mean side characters who end up becoming friends with MC through MC being a saint, etc etc
BUT, that's what makes this anime so great. It's like going back to a cheeseburger after eating all this gourmet, weird anime that's been going around. But this cheeseburger is the best damn burger created. The stereotypes come in but you don't feel they are forced or unnatural. The visuals are movie-quality
...
in the first few episodes and the Harry Potter/Mashle/Black Clover plot is done well without much fluff. Action scenes are hype and well-animated. Story progresses at a nice pace leaving you wanting to watch the next episode.
People talking like they are above anime tropes remind me of the food critic from Ratatouille. Yall need to get off your high horse and stop looking down on anime just because it's not deep.

Edit: finished the series and it is definitely the best modern fighting anime I have seen. There is no BS in this series, just hardcore fighting. While I hope there is a season 2, the lack of hype makes me worried...
4 Episodes in and had to see what others thought about it. Pretty disappointed at the lack of hype and low rating. Garouden deserves better.
Anyone into fighting animes knows of Kengan, Baki, and now Windbreaker. Garouden falls into the same category but it takes a much more realistic and character-driven approach to the genre compared to the others. The world Garouden takes place in
...
is a normal society where underground fighting is illegal. The fighters are not unkillable machines with supernatural powers. They are marital artists at their peak form but can still die to regular guns and weapons. But the whole plot of a battle royale style with an underdog MC remains the same.
Thus, this forces the anime to focus on realistic fight scenes which are well-choreographed and look like an actual human fight scene. I have not seen better depictions of grappling and jiu jitsu than in Garouden. It makes the fights much more tense as you know as strong as the fighters are, their bones will snap and vitals gouged out at any time.
Due to the realistic nature of this anime, the tone is very mature and serious. There is basically no comedic elements, and the first few episodes are "slow" (at least in terms of most animes). I wasn't immediately hooked in by the first episode, but I was curious where the story was heading as enough is revealed about the MC that I wanted to learn more about him. By episode 4, I already thought this has been the best fighting anime I have seen once the action picked up.
Don't be fooled by the low rating. If you are the type of person to actually appreciate story-telling and character development, then the slowness and build-up will feel satisfying. If you are a younger viewer who loves tik toks, then your attention span may not allow you to appreciate this anime.

It's surprising that kaijus don't get more anime but I guess nobody wants to step on the legacy of Godzilla. Look, this anime isn't deep or complex. It's your typical shounen plot of a weak character getting a second chance to grow and become the chad hero. The twist is that kaijus are involved, and for that reason alone, this anime is a must-watch. Banger OP, banger fights, and banger animation. There's very little not to like here if you're a fan of action animes and sci-fi.
Again, this is a Shounen-style anime, so the characters are simple and the plot is simple, but the
...
action and uniqueness of the show are the main attraction. It's very simple. If you like the idea of Kaijus, then this anime hits all the right boxes. If you don't, then why did you watch this show?

Konosuba is an anime sitcom. The plot takes a backseat to the characters being themselves in funny situations. This season is no different than previous seasons. It’s the same style, same characters, same tone, just new situations. It’s solid comedy that is easy to watch and enjoy with little mental investment.
I really fail to see how people see this season as a downgrade when the formula hasn’t changed. If you’re bored of the show, then you never really enjoyed it in the first place. People can watch 9 seasons of seinfeld with essentially no change in characters and comedy and still enjoy every episode.
...
Konosuba is no different.

Look, I'll keep this real simple. If you like violence, if you like action, if you like testosterone-filled hand-to-hand combat between angsty teenage boys who fight like seasoned MMA fighters, then this is the anime for you. We're talking the most fluid bare-knuckle fighting animation possibly in anime history. We're talking power struggles between high school gangs. We're talking screaming HOORAH at the screen when the MC spits out a chad line.
This is a Shounen anime so just overlook all the plot holes like why aren't the police ever involved in a high-crime area? How did these kids learn to fight like pros? How
...
are these businesses alive if nobody ever comes there due to the gangs? Where the hell are the parents of these kids and do they not care about them?!
ALL THESE THINGS DON'T MATTER BECAUSE WE JUST WANT TO SEE TWO STRONG MEN KICK THE SH*T OUT OF EACH OTHER
