So, I recently rewatched the English dub of Little Nemo on Crunchyroll. Some of the movie I remember watching as a kid, but other parts I seem to have forgotten.
Story wise, tackling the idea of a repeating dream sequences can present problems, but the film seemed to mostly handle that well. The 'Oh, I'm still in a dream' notion does wear thin, but thankfully they don't dwell on that for too long. Other than that, the narrative is simple and family oriented. A good morality tale on keeping promises and finding the courage to fix ... mistakes.
I think that this film's animation has held up reasonably well, on par with other animated features of the 80's and 90's. Not as good as Disney Renaissance, but better than Rankin & Bass. Sort of that Don Bluth film area. Slumberland and its inhabitants are whimsical and colorful, while their nightmare counterparts can be appropriately frightening to younger audiences. Perhaps too frightening for some children, so grain of salt for parents.
Is there an edited version of the English dub out there? I remember the clown character Flip being a typical hobo clown (light face makeup and dark mouth makeup), not a Minstrel Show clown with all racial baggage that carries with it. Now there's a third cringe joining Jynx and Mr. Popo in the world of Japanese animation transitions to the US.
The English dub has some issues. Moments of missing or awkward lip flaps, line delivery that is mismatched with the tone, and dialogue out of sync are all present at one point or other. Thankfully, this is more of an exception than rule. The music is alright, if a little flamboyant at times.
For a film that went through so many hands while in development hell, it has survived to be a decent film for the family. Hope you enjoy.

I am a bit of a sucker for period pieces and fantasy, so this series managed to scratch both of those itches at once. While I am not familiar with this particular period of Japanese history, I find that the interesting dichotomy of traditional folklore and modernization to be rather compelling. I look forward to seeing this explored in the future, since I have no past experience with the series' source material.

As for art, the animation overall was very nice. While they do resort to CGI on occasion, in general it was played in a manner that did not draw too much attention away from ... the narrative. The design of the characters was very vivid, perhaps too over the top for the Hashira members introduced towards the end, but some license has to be taken with elite characters in anime. I also enjoyed the designs for the various Oni and trying to identify what particular yokai that inspired them.

Sound was also very good. I definitely enjoyed the LiSA opening, and overall the music definitely blended well with the scenes.

As for the characters, the only ones that I took issue with at times were Zenitsu and Inosuke. While I understand that they are both comedy characters, their antics were exhausting at points, especially Zenitsu. However, their contributions to combat and brief explorations of their backstories during the Mount Natagumo battle made up for some of my previous irritation.
I am impressed so far with the balancing of the Oni villains. Most are effectively portrayed at tragic figures succumbing to human desires twisted to perverse extremes. They are never justified, but given context to help drive home the idea that people can become monsters.

Overall, I found this series to be very enjoyable. Nezuko is definitely very deserving to be one of 2019's top wiafu's, and I look forward to watching the continuing adventures of her brother and companions.

I first heard about this show from Joey the Anime Man when he did is previews of this season's anime and was intrigued with the premise. The idea of single parent slice of life with fantasy elements sounded really good, like mixing Skyrim with Usagi Drop or Sweetness and Lightning. I even bought the manga ahead of the series getting streamed on Cruchyroll.
Boy, was I let down.
After reading the manga, I set a really high bar for the anime, obviously too high. The art is bland and fails to capture the warmth of the original illustrations. The characters seem to be shells of their ... literary counterparts and the protagonist Dale is downright irritating. Moments of actual drama or action have so far been handled with awkward, clunky animation. This adaptation feels like a quick money grab for a studio unwilling to invest their time and effort into actually being faithful or producing quality.
I only plan on continuing to watch this series as a study in comparing an anime with its source material. If you are interested in this story, read the manga. It's a better investment and definitely has a warmer, familial atmosphere.

I've been watching this on Crunchyroll where it goes by the title of Magical Sempai. I usually don't look for ecchi series, but after seeing a couple memes and comments on YouTube, I decided to give this show a shot. It did not disappoint.
Each episode is roughly 15 minutes with 5 shenanigans each, for bite size bits of bumbling magic and mayhem. The jokes are fun with just enough ecchi to help the comedy without overpowering the mix.
There is nothing groundbreaking about this show, but its not trying to be anything more than good fun. I recommend this show to anyone looking for a ... little anime frivolity in their day and hope that the show will continue to deliver laughs.

Overall, I highly enjoyed this series. Having the protagonist being unjustly persecuted and fighting against a massive conspiracy definitely broke the stale taste typical of isekai anime. While he does become overpowered like a typical isekai protagonist, the hardship he experiences along the way and the relationships between him and his party makes his moments of bad-assery delicious rather than par for the course.
Combat is delightful animated and engaging. The only issue I personally have is the occasional jarring inclusion of CGI for scenes. They are especially obvious compared to the excellent traditional style animation.
I would definitely recommend this series and eagerly await ... the studio to continue with a second season.

Overall, this was a good series. Trying to avoid spoilers, I like the idea of the line between monster and humanity being blurred and the actions that need to be taken to preserve that line. It works especially well considering all of the previous story arcs.

Art style was consistently memorizing, a hallmark of the Monogatari series. About the same levels of ecchi fanservice as before. I feel like both are needed to keep the show interesting since it is essentially a series of long monologues or dialogues. Tsukimonogatari again achieves the right balance to make things interesting.

I watched it on Crunchyroll and am a little ... disappointed that they chose to broadcast this as one large movie than episodes, mostly because I find the Monogatari openings and endings to be really delightful to watch. I am also disappointed with the ending, though it completely makes sense for the story. That critique is purely personal preference, but it seemed anti-climatic considering other battles earlier in the series.

Overall, a good show but not as good as earlier story arcs. Definitely enjoyable for fans of the Monogatari series. Hope you enjoy.

An adaptation of the Earthsea novels done by Studio Ghibli sounds like a formula for success, which makes this film such an unfortunate disappointment.

The story relies heavily on the lore of the Earthsea novels without incorporating said lore into the narrative. First time watching this movie I was waiting for more exposition to explain what was going on, but never got the answers. It was confusing to just feel that there is a deeper backstory but not be told. I did develop a greater appreciation for the movie once I read the first Earthsea novel, which gave me all the exposition and lore I needed ... to understand the world.

Other than the narrative problems, this film is visually and musically beautiful. The art and animation was typical of Studio Ghibli: mesmerizing.

Anyways, I would recommend this series to those who are fans of both Earthsea and anime. That way they'll understand the narrative and appreciate the beauty of the scenery.

I decided to watch this series after seeing a letsplay by Lost Pause for Persona5 and was curious at how well it would do compared to Persona4: the Animation. I have not played any of the Persona games, full disclaimer, so I can not compare whether this was a good adaptation of the game. Overall, this is a decent anime, and this review assumes you'll be watching the actual series prior to the specials.

The story and characters have to be summarized for a project of this nature, so there is a sense that a lot of the minor characters are sort of shoved into the ... narrative. This is a bit sad considering that the Persona4: the Animation and Persona5 (from what I've seen), plays heavily on the idea of forming relationships with characters.

The animation seems to get a little spotty at points, but that is more the exception to rule. The music is catchy and I can see why the original game got a lot of praise for the soundtrack. Overall, this show has a decent story with decent pacing, though a cliffhanger ending to the first special made me angry after the series proper ended on a brutal cliffhanger.

I would recommend this series to either a fan or a novice who wants a summary of the game rather than playing. It also works as a very long advertisement for the game, and perhaps I will edit my review once I play the game.

Until then, I hope you enjoy.

P.S. I finished my first run through of the game and am half way through a second run through. Of course the source material is far more detailed and comprehensive than an anime forced to condense 140 hours of gameplay to a 12 hour show. I stand by my anime review, but the game I bump up +1 to everything (except Sound) for an overall of 8. If you can play the game.

This is a ridiculous series, but what would you honestly expect from a show with a title like this? I honestly enjoyed the overall show, but I took issue with a few parts. I like the idea of the reverse isekai and the struggles of formerly powerful demon lords to merely survive in modern Japan. Then throw in an overzealous hero and a couple other cuckoos over the series and they all created some genuinely funny moments.

The problem I had was with the final villain. He was cheap cringe rather than good villain or a real threat.

Anyways, this was an overall decent series with a ... pretty interesting story and some genuinely funny bits. If you choose to watch this series, I sincerely hope you enjoy.
