Clannad wasn't really for me. I can see why some love it, but to be honest, I only really watched it for After Story. With that said, however, I do not regret watching this anime in the slightest.
Despite a few arcs, I didn't really find much conflict in this anime. Instead, it seemed to focus more on the characters and relationships. Don't get me wrong; characters, and their development are critical in any anime, but I really felt that this anime focused on just the characters. Additionally, I felt that Clannad threw me in a clichéd setting: The highschool 'failure' who befriends five girls, who
...
all bond together through numerous arcs.
Clannad had some of the best comic relief I have ever seen. This anime often had me giggling at least a few times each episode. I believe one could watch this anime just for the comedic value it holds.
Even though I gave this anime a 7/10, I believe it is worth watching. This anime builds characters for the viewer, and allows the viewer to really understand each characters mentality, how each of them behave, why they all do what they do. This anime doesn't need a complicated story, that develops each episode, as its sequel does this extraordinarily well. It's just needs to build the characters FOR its sequel.
