Here we have a world that holds quite an immersive story which not only advances over time, but even events of the world's past end up building up the events that took place in the story's present era.
As for the characters (ignoring filler characters) we saw a lot of them grow up over time (especially due to the use of the time skip) as well as see just how corrupting a tale of revenge can be. Though of course we'll always have our complaints on some things ('Useless' Sakura and Sasuke only paying an arm for his actions), but they don't really do much damage
