Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun

The protagonist for both of these shows end up under contracts with someone who's linked with the spirit world and end up having to do labour for them..... these shows have very similar beginings and both have a lot of Japanese folklore in them. They're both comedies with some serious elements and an deeper overarching plot. The arcs are short spanning from 1-2 episodes. (The similarities go on and on......I'll stop now...) Hanako-kun has a few shounen like moments which I thought didn't really fit with the style of the show. On the other hand, Holic limits fighting scenes unless they are absolutely necessary and has more of a "day to day life" vibe. The biggest difference between them is probably the art style; Hanako-kun has cute chibi-esque proportions and Holic is basically the polar opposite, with super tall proportions which might take some getting used to (Yuko's outfits are amaaaazing though). Both art styles have their perks, but seeing as Hanako-kun is a 2020 anime and XXXHolic is 2007, Hanako-kun's may seem nicer. XXXHolic is one of my favourite childhood animes and Hanako-kun is just as enjoyable to watch. If you like one you'll love the other!!
