Art style & Animation: The art style was actually really good to say the least, of course it's nothing like, say Shingeki no Kyoujin, Mayo Chiki or even Binbougami ga!, but it wasn't an eyesore or a headache to look at and it was actually kinda pretty to look at. As for the animation, it was BEAUTIFUL and complimented the art style flawlessly, especially during the musical performances.
Soundtrack/Background Music: The music was rather phenomenal. The opening theme was a gorgeous track because of the piano work, but of course I could only listen to it so many times after getting bored with it. And don't
...
even get me started on the music with the band whom's name I cannot remember. It was just glorious, it was something I could see myself downloading and listening to over and over, even the acoustic music was great! But still, the music couldn't top Ranbu no Melody by SID.
Voice Acting: I watched the dub of the anime and I gotta say, I REALLY liked the dub more than I did the subs. Since a lot of the VAs were the ones for Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai's dub. And those actors are my most favourite dub actors because in my opinion, they made Majikoi actually sound better than the subs, so that's MAJOR bonus points for the anime. +1 for you, Angel Beats.
Characters & Character Development: Now this anime did a pretty good job on a lot of the characters, they were all likable and their past stories were a great way to make that character development, it was brilliant writing on their behalf. Though it would've been great to know the stories of all of the SSS rather than just the "key" characters. It also would've helped if I got to know Kanade Tachibana a bit better too. But still, there weren't any cancerous characters, they were all a joy to watch in one way or another. Except Shiina, Shiina was really cute, but she was really one-dimensional, there was just nothing going for her. Actually, now that I think about it, all the characters that weren't Yuri and Otonashi were pretty one-dimensional, and it definitely felt like that Naoi's hypnosis powers was some sort of ode or reference to Naruto with it being something similar to a combination of Itachi's Mangekyou Sharingan signature Genjutsu: Tsukuyomi. But overall, they were still enjoyable. Yui is my favourite since she seemed to be the only one other than Otonashi and Yuri to actually have a very interesting personality.
Story: The story wasn't the best and somewhat hard to grasp, like, I didn't like the main plot of it, people blaming God for their crap life and decide to rebel against it, it makes me ask: what would happen if they actually didn't come to terms with their pasts and actually killed Kanade? What would they accomplish by doing so? I guess I can say I more disagree with the plot rather than hate it, I was on Kanade's side the whole time after I learned her true intentions. Now, I have watched Angel Beats once before but I dropped it by around episode 5, but even then, beyond that point, it was sort of predictable and with second flashbacks of the same character, I found myself skipping them. Such as Otonashi's death (I came back to it and it was kinda sad, I gained a lot of respect for him afterwards.) and as for Yuri's second flashback, I just didn't care and skipped it, it was deeper development for things I already knew about her, so I didn't want to waste time. The ending overall, it wasn't all that sad since I kinda saw it coming, but it still tugged a couple heartstrings, because I know a similar feeling of confessing to someone and then being "abandoned" or left behind by that person. It wasn't easy to watch but no tears were shed or even built up. It was really over-exaggerate how sad it was. Though, there were a few plot holes and unanswered questions regarding the story, but there's no need for me to talk about them since I'm sure those mysteries can be solved with a bit of common sense.
Overall, Angel Beats is a 9/10. I loved it a lot more than I ever thought I would.
