#POTENTIAL SPOILERS, BE WARNED#
6/10, so 'fine'. Enjoyable enough but could have been a strong 7.5 except for what felt like a rushed ending leaving important things unexplored.
My real issue was with the plot at the end.
This is truly my biggest issue with it. Until episode 10 I was satisfied enough with the plot arcs. It didn't hang around, needlessly drawing out plot hooks. Progressed with a nice pace...until those last 3 episodes. Warning now, I will mention spoilers so if you don't want to know stop reading.
In the last episode certain things were just left either underexplained by a weird rush to tie everything up
...
in 12 episodes. What I mean is the following:
How did Elephas and Aileen escape the dungeon?
How did they discover the existence of a hot air balloon and steal it?
Why do either of them know how to fly a hot air balloon?
What was the terrorist mages' plan exactly?
Why did the demon incense—which is supposed to turn demons berserk—make Claude go to sleep?
Why does Selena know all the secrets of the palace?
How did Lilia get the Holy Sword in the Lester Route?
How exactly did Almond “play dead”?
That all said, we got our happily ever after (which is very important). But I am just left wistful a the missed opportunity to have the story actually be about Ailleen saving Lilla from herself - a chance at redemption. Instead it sort of just became a thing where Lillia is a two dimensional psychopath. I felt the plot undercut so much world building that was just left on the cutting room floor.
All those complains said, I enjoyed watching this, but the ending drew a solid 'good' down into an 'okay' *shrugs shoulder* anime.
I mean, sure don't go watching these sorts of anime genres expecting masterpieces on the scale of Legend of Galactic Heroes or Attack on Titan - these are designed to be lighter, flights of fantasy and almost soothing with modest tension and angst. In this regard, the anime delivers, it is a fine enough product, I just wish it had been longer with more time taken to pull things together better and deliver a better chance to dig deeper into the characters motives, actions and changes of heart (I mean, Cedric goes from turning a blind eye to Aileen's actions in the last episode out of his *justified* suspicion of her ... to quickly outright betraying her *justifably*...but why? What was his thought process? We don't know)
If you like Shoujo fantasy, comedy action this is a fine enough product, definitely give it a watch. Just know the genre you're engaging with and don't go expecting anything too profound (that isn't what this genre is designed for) For its stated target audience, it delivers fine enough.
#edit: I forgot to note, I dislike 'lost memory' plot devices, so that also bugged me but that's entirely a personal plot device prejudice on my part.
