Both follow follow a female lead in her upper teens with non-human friends in an off-beat comedy, almost slice of life, josei story set in the future where there is a vague sense of dread underneath it's sugary sweetness.

Well they're both shonen animes about rivalry between two men, err boys. Going further they're both between a rambunctious orphan and a serious orphan. With much more interesting side characters and annoying female support. So if like one you should like the other despite the differences.

Either Basilisk was influenced by Ninja Scroll or the had the same source material, because a few of the techniques can be found in both, as well as some names. Of course that means whichever one you see second will seem unoriginal, so space it out. They're both very good.

Both series have the different story per episode going on, with an overall poetic and dark tale, similar pacing & length too. Although Boogiepop is more sci-fi/horror, where as Kino is more of a classic morbid fairytale type.

Very similar art style, and dark atmosphere. Deep psychological and a tad distopic with action. Also have the same director.
