I was always waiting for a reboot of Ranma 1/2 ever since I watch the original. The way the original ended left such a sour taste in my mouth due to the story being incomplete aswell as having lots of uninteresting filler. When I found out it was getting a remake, I was ecstatic. So far, I'm very pleased with it. The art style and animation are very nice to look at and also very fluid but it's really tough to beat the charm the original had. Totally a personal preference though. I think the new dub cast does a great job with bringing these
...
characters to life, but if you're a sub-only type of person, then it won't be your cup of tea. I really appreciate the reliving of the original story but also I like the fact it's not a 100% re-polished copy of the original. All I can really hope for is that they complete the story for once by keeping filler to a minimum and focus on the main story material. I believe it can be done in a couple of seasons as opposed to the 160+ episodes the original series had. If you're a new viewer who hasn't seen the original Ranma 1/2, I encourage you to take a trip down memory lane and experience it. If you're not into a really long anime and you want something trimmed back for all the good reasons, definitely watch this reboot!
So far I'd give it an 8/10.
Update: Season 1 is complete, now we gotta wait for season 2. This season was a solid one! Makes me excited to see how many seasons they're going to do.

I bought this on Blu-Ray in 2019 and I believe I started watching this show 2 or so years ago... and I'm just finishing it now.
I was excited for it considering the good things I heard, coming off of the original Gundam Trilogy. Maybe I had my expectations too high because I just didn't love this show like I thought I would have. I found myself watching a couple episodes then totally forgetting about it, probably due to the fact that there's no real story to pull you in or make you interested in what's coming up next.
If you're looking for an actual
...
overarching story here, you will not find it. This is the one major problem I had with the show. While it is designed to be episodic, the episodes are such a mixed bag. There are definitely some good episodes and arcs sprinkled throughout the series but unfortunately, lots of episodes come across as kinda boring and have a filler feeling. You're basically just watching the daily lives of Division 2 and that's all. I would say the characters are decent enough and help to add a little humor to it all, but the main character Noa has to be one of the most whiny and uninteresting characters in the show. You will like the supporting characters 100% more than her. I felt that while the cast was decent, I wish there was some more backstory to them, even to just peek into their lives outside of work just a little bit. The art is great for its time. The cel shading with nice designs and usage of color make it feel alive most of the time. While it is your standard 80's art, it looks genuinely great. The animation is good too.
Overall, I can't say I hated it or absolutely loved it. It was fine for what it was. I was just hoping for a real story to be present to make it even better and to pull me into it more than it did. It definitely needed one to hold the series up. While that's the weakest link, there are good characters, some good humor here and there and great art/animation. If you're into a more slowed down mecha anime, definitely give it a try.

Wow.
I decided to watch this on a whim without knowing truly how bad this was. Since it's a sequel to The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, it must be good right? Wrong!
What can anyone expect from such a short anime? 12, 3 minute episodes. There's nothing to this story, it goes nowhere. The art isn't very good, rarely it would look okay for a frame or so but overall the art wasn't good and the animation was stiff. The sound had no standout qualities and the characters were extremely bland with no memorable anything! The villain was laughably bad. This show is a sad shell of its predecessor.
...
Atleast in the original show, it had charm to it with funny moments and decent characters. (It wasn't a perfect show) in my opinion.
I can't name 1 positive this show has to offer. Just stick to the original. You won't find any laughs to be had here. This was a waste of time unfortunately.

I finally finished this anime. It took a few months to do so, due to the fact I kept losing interest in it because of how slow paced it was, but I've finally done it.
Let's get into it.
Story: (5) The story itself is kind of interesting because we're trying to figure out who is related to who. The problem is, it takes way too long to go anywhere. Alot of the episodes feel like they don't 100% focus on the plot. Was there literally no possible way to figure out if they we're all related or not? DNA test maybe? No, it didn't cross
...
their minds or it was, "Too Expensive". I did like the way it ended though, it had a nice twist but it took way too long to get interesting.
Art/Animation (6) There's not much I can say about the art and animation besides the fact that it's definitely dated looking and animations look quite stiff at times. Maybe it's not completely fair to judge it too hard, since this is from the early 2000s and stuff has improved alot. Character designs are okay at best.
Sound: (7) I watched this with the dub and it wasn't too bad honestly. I know alot of hard-core fans of Subs will trash it automatically but it genuinely isn't that bad. If you're into subs, then stick to subs for your own benefit. The music is quite nice, lots of piano is used, works quite well for the scenes.
Characters: (4) This is where I gotta be real with you. Karen, Mina and Mike are walking Cliches that we've seen time and time again. Karen is the shy, quiet and nervous one. Mina is the outgoing girl who will do whatever it takes to get what she wants and Mike is just bland beyond belief. He comes across as just boring most of the time, no real stand out moments with him at all. Don't get me started on the side characters! I know some of them are from Please Teacher! But since I haven't seen it, I wouldn't know. Maybe they are really deep in the other show? I don't know. But here, they are just bland. The only funny/interesting character in the sidelines is Kousei because he's in love with Mike and always hits on him.
Enjoyment/Overall: (4) I really wish I could say I recommend this show to others to watch but I just can't. The story has an interesting premise but takes way too long to pick up momentum and you slowly lose interest in it. The characters are clichéd, and only Karen, Mina, and Koisei are actually somewhere interesting. Everyone else, forgettable. The art and animation is dated, the sound is pretty good, but overall, it isn't enough to hold the show up enough. Also, they all realize they could be related, but they kiss and stuff? I have no idea what's up with incest in anime. It's so slow and boring.
Below average tiered show.
4/10.

Story: (7)
I found the story to be rather unique because you don't really see much of "Rent a girlfriend" anywhere. It developed nicely, there was drama, good pacing, funny moments and sad moments that felt natural. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot! I will say that I didn't like the forced cringe moments sprinkled throughout the show, but it was still entertaining and pulled me in!
Art/Animation: (8)
Wow, I absolutely loved the art aswell as the animation in this show. Looks absolutely fantastic, the color palettes harmonize so well and the fluidity of the animation stands tall. Even the interesting comedic moments with the animation shine
...
bright.
Sound: (8)
The voice acting sounded great in Japanese, not sure about the dub! The music worked well, there were light piano moments right up to rock music during intense moments. It has many different OSTs. Plus, the OP + ED are great too.
Characters: (8)
At first Kazuya was really next level cringe, pathetic, sad, whiny, almost unlikable. Then someone must of hit a switch because he genuinely developed (even if it took like half the season to do so) He grew up to some extent and actually wants to settle down with Chizuru, but he's pulled into drama and having to hide his fake relationship from his friends and family.
The female characters are definitely the most interesting in the show.
Chizura has everything you'd want in a good character, Mami (Kazuyas ex) is there to stir the pot and add drama due to her jealously of Kazuya having a Beautiful girlfriend, Ruka is sweet yet possessive and actually likes Kazuya but he is tied up with Chizuru, and finally Sumi is cute but extremely shy. They all offer diversity between their personalities and it blends so well. I will say that Sumi gets introduced in the last few episodes, feels like it happened a bit late.
Kazuya's guy friends do a well enough job, even if they aren't around very often.
Overall, a great variety!
Enjoyment/Overall: (7)
I know there are very critical people that say this show is trash 1/10 with no redeeming qualities but I disagree. This show kept me entertained the whole time. Like yes there are many cringe moments that turned me off big time but I got over that. Kazuya grows as a character and has become likable. The story has good pacing and keeps you well invested. The characters are charming and overall likable! Absolute waifu material for those people that are into that! The ending was still good but I felt it was a little disappointing with what happened (I won't spoil it). I'm excited for season 2! Definitely going to watch and find out what happens. Give this show a shot and push through the totally cringe moments that Kazuya brings too the table. I really enjoyed it!

***This is a review for both Seasons 1 and 2.
Story (8):
This show took me by surprise. I was looking for an older comedy anime, browsing endlessly through the comedy wormhole and something about the art and design of this show caught my eye. So I sat down, watched episode 1 and continued. By the time I hit episode 3, I just wanted to watch more and more. The story comes across as maybe a bit simple. Just a typical love story with a boy who has a crush and is in love with a girl who doesn't share those feelings. Harima continuously tries again
...
and again to express himself and confess to Tenma how he feels, but things always manage to stop him from doing so. While the story isn't groundbreaking by any means, the show manages to keep you invested with the absolute spot on comedy and characters, as well as their development. There's drama, lots of laughs to be had, then there's some hard-hitting moments that pull you in even more than you already have been. Every episode is different, the show follows a much more episodic formula with a few arcs thrown in there. Everything was great until the very end of season 2, the final episode. I won't spoil anything but it really disappointed me how nothing was resolved in the end, everything basically goes back to square one. Don't let that deter you from watching this show, you absolutely need too. The show does attempt to patch things up and create a conclusion with the OVA, but with mixed results.
Art (9):
I absolutely love the art design of this show. The atmosphere, the landscapes and environments give off a homey feel making you feel like you know these characters and
you know their stories. The colors pop out at you, the night time/rainy days are beautiful to look at.
Sound (8):
The animes OP/ED are perfect for the show, very catchy. Sound effects and other music within the anime are great aswell. You have happy music, melancholic, up beat, etc. I watched the dub and confirm the dub is great. The VA's do good jobs with portraying emotions, etc.
Characters (9):
The characters in this show are some of the best I've seen. There's a perfect balance between stubborn characters, cocky characters, funny characters (ladies man's), hard-core characters, it goes on and on.
Harima is in love with Tenma but can never confess how he feels.
Tenma is in love with Kurasuma but can never confess how she feels.
Eri is the spoiled rich girl with a soft side.
Yakumo is the calm and collected "little sister" of Tenma.
Akira is the quiet and mysterious friend of Tenma and her group of friends.
Makoto is the friend of Tenma who hides her love life and is a black belt in Karate.
Hanai is a obnoxiously loud guy who is madly in love with Yakumo.
I could go on and on.
Karasuma is the love interest of Tenma who is really... and I mean REALLY wierd and quiet. He comes across as completely devoid of personality, but it just works.
You have to watch it to fully understand the depth of all these characters and how none of them feel forced or unnecessary.
Overall (9):
I really loved this show. It made me appreciate great comedy anime even more. This show has it all, a good story, fantastic comedy, lovable characters, very nice sound work, beautiful early 2000's art with cozy vibes, BUT that ending could have been much better with a proper conclusion.

Story: (7) It follows a bounty hunter named Ryo Saeba who is paid by people to help them with serious situations. He works with his assistant Kaori. It's basically just a typical bounty hunter anime with an episodic formula but it works well since it's very entertaining! It has quite a few arcs sprinkled throughout but mostly single episode stories. There are episodes that range from great to meh. Ryo throughout the series is always trying to get with all the woman who hires him. Mainly good and entertaining for the most part!
Art: (8) This anime is nice to look at. It is your
...
usual 80s art style but it's done quite well. The colors mixed with the homey feeling city streets makes for a comfortable viewing experience until bullets start flying. I will say that the first quarter of the anime, the art was alright but later in it started getting much better.
Sound: (7) The sound design is not bad! Not much to really say about it though. The soundtrack is quite good though!
Character: (8) The characters are overall good! We got Ryo, Kaori, Makimura(small character), Seiko, Reika and Omibuzo. They all do their jobs with Reika and Seiko being detectives. Omibozu is another bounty hunter with a history with Ryo. Kaori is not bad, but she just serves as a block for Ryo to stop him from getting with woman and her brother Makimura plays way too small of a character which shouldn't of been the case.
Enjoyment/Overall: (8) Overall, I really enjoyed this anime! I know this is only technically just the first season but as a first season, it left a great impression on me. I'm going to continue watching from the second season. The show does get repetitive with its episodic formula but it's still good. This show was just so entertaining and enjoyable to me still! I don't see this as a flawless anime since it does have some duds within there and Kaori pulling out her hammer and hitting Ryo whenever he's being a ladies man, gets pretty stale quick. Check out this anime for a ton a fun action!
8/10

Story (5): The story was pretty basic and didn't really go anywhere by the last episode. The adventures Narue and Kasu had we're entertaining, but that's literally it. The episodes felt like filler and didn't follow the story synopsis very much. The adventure part yes, and the "fighting space invaders and androids" for like 2 or 3 episodes. The rest of them were just random episodes of them just doing different things.
Art/Animation (7): For it's time this was pretty good. I like the colors, and animation was decent! I will say that the characters designs were pretty generic though.
Sound: (7): I enjoyed the
...
ambient piano soundtrack through the series. The OP and ED were solid aswell.
Character: (5): These characters aren't very interesting unfortunately. They get the job done i guess, but personality wise and design wise, they just kinda fade into obscurity. Quite forgettable! Hajime was probably the most entertaining character due to her being obsessed with exposing Narue for being an alien and was funny. BUT 100% I absolutely thought that the 3 school girls who we're bullies with straight up annoying. I hated seeing them, luckily only for a few episodes.
Overall (6): i can't really recommend anyone to watch this due too the fact that it doesn't have enough going for it. Not much story, the villains are one-dimensional and barely there, characters are forgettable and are okay for getting the job done. It has some funny moments and the show is still entertaining to watch, just don't go into it expecting a ton from it. It is still a cute show but it has it's own issues.
6/10. It is fine.

When I started this show, I had just recently completed Rumiko Takahashi's other huge anime known as Ranma 1/2. I had high expectations for this show since that show will now always have a place in my heart as one of my favorite 80's animes. I'm happy to say that now, this series is even better than Ranma 1/2. This is not a review of comparing these shows but since I just finished this series, let's begin.
The story is endearing. A man named Godai becomes a new tenant to a boarding house knows as Maison Ikkoku and is greeted by the beautiful widow
...
known as Kyoko Otanashi. Throughout the series spanning 6 years, they develop and grow into terrific characters, aswell as the other troublesome and loud tenants.
The art and sound design compliment each other very nicely. The art may be your standard 80's style but the use of colors paired with beautiful backgrounds, character designs and locations, makes this very nice to look at for it's time. The sound/music is comforting and makes you feel at home watching the characters blossom.
The characters and their development are near-perfect in my eyes. The tenants add a dynamic to make Godai's life more of a pain but it helps him develop and grow up. All characters fit perfectly into this world that has been created. Godai, Kyoko, Coach Mitaka, Kozue, Yagami, and more all fit in so well. With the introduction of Yagami around episode 50, this show shot right up to being fantastic. She wasn't annoying or just there to slow the plot. She is a perfect addition to add to the story and the drama side of things. There wasn't a dull moment with her around whatsoever.
Enjoyment/Overall:
It's not very often where I can say this show is a 10/10 in my opinion. Sure, there are predictable situations and plot developments. Sometimes the tenants become a little annoying and you want them to go away for a while. Sure, there's some characters added to spice things up when things are going all too well. That's Takahashi's trademark it seems, "Misunderstandings". To me though, that isn't enough to strike the show down too a 9. I believe that no matter what show you see as a solid 10, there are still little flaws here and there. No show is absolutely perfect, but to me this is a slightly flawed masterpiece. I loved it very much, the amount of pros outweigh the cons immensely. It took me almost a year to finish this show, and the ending is absolutely perfect. For 96 episodes, it's not too much to digest and I think the filler is kept too a minimum, except for a really stupid episode about an egg? Yeah I want to forget about that episode completely. Anyways, if you're into rom-coms with endearing characters with a fantastic story you will enjoy it. This is an anime that stood the test of time.
A flawed masterpiece for sure.
10/10.

Beginning this series and even through the halfway point I could of just gave it a 6 because I started this series July 1st, 2019 and it took me all the way till March 28th, 2020 to finish 47 episodes. Guess you could say I wasn't feeling too invested into it, but I'm happy I stuck around and finished it.
Story - 7 (Pretty good, not as good as previous series.) Axis vs AEUG.
Characters - 6 (Bright is a shell of his former self unfortunately. Some characters return that really made me happy.) You don't feel as much of a connection with the
...
characters in this series as compared to Zeta and 0079 Gundam. You do warm up too them though later on!
Sound/Music - 8 (Standard and Solid music yet again along with good sound effects for its time.
Art - It is very similar to Zeta and looks good for its time! Earth looks very good, pretty locales / etc.
The way deaths are handled could of been alot better, some stupid arcs and lots of filler to be found.
First 20 episodes are comedy based and plot doesn't really "begin" until then.
Characters mature over time, start off as immature and they become a great team, kind of reminiscent of White Base maybe? I guess that's all opinion. They eventually make a good team and Bright allows them to make their own decisions.
While this Gundam is heavily criticized for being too comedy based and takes too long to get too the story, it will always live in the shadow of it's predecessors. This is the weakest of Trilogy without a doubt, but there's still good moments too be had. Lots of solid enjoyable moments whether they be from a comedy perspective or war/battle. The ending made me happy aswell, actually had a good ending.
I think this series gets trashed a little too much and isn't given the best of chances due too it's long comedic introduction and lack of solid characters/beginning plot or great villains as it's predecessors. BUT I do think this series was worth the watch. It makes me really appreciate how timeless this series is (specifically 0079 Gundam and Zeta.) Give it a watch! Then again, I can't promise you will love it or even like it. 6/10
