Horrible anime, what a waste of time. As someone who very much enjoy stories and movies where men dress up as women I thought I'd enjoy this but oh my I was wrong. This is a highly insensitive transphobic anti-LGBT anti-women story that should be removed from Netflix asap.
All the jokes are tacky, I did not laugh once. What is the fun of joking about having hemorroids? It's not fun? Jokes abing being threatened to death? Not fun?
This anime implies that:
Trans-people does not exist
Even after surgery, looking and feeling like a girl, trans-women will never be "real women"
Only people with dicks can have
...
and enjoy sex
People without dicks can't have sex with people without dicks
The worst thing to happen is to lose your dick and now have to pee standing up
What a waste of time. Wow. I hope the voice actors got paid a lot to do this, since this probably dragged their reputation a bit. Since this was on Netflix I didn't check MAI reviews before watching. A big mistake that will never happen again.
My expectation: funny jokes about a group of men dressing up as idols, trying to tuck their junk and learning how to apply make-up, clumsy mistakes and good uld humor.
What I got: transphobic garbage that left me with a bad taste in my mouth. This can be REALLY harmful is an actual trans-person sees this. The jokes were so bad, I'm 100% certain that a cis man wrote this trash. No woman could ever write something as insensitive as this. In my country, Sweden, posting this would never be allowed.
TRANS LIVES MATTER! WOMEN CAN HAVE SEX! Spare your time and don't watch this.

This work is incredible, unique and wonderful. A different side of love; one where you accidentally meet your destined soulmate way too soon, and the pain and dilemma following it. And then, of course, the steamy, heart-clenching reunion. Wonderful, amazing, I loved this so much!
But you need an open mind to read this. Keep that in mind. Not everyone will like this wonderful story.
This is a nice take on the alpha, beta omega dynamic, and the main character is very wholesome and well-rounded. The art is beautiful, and the side characters have depth as well.

I started reading this, but then I couldn't stop. This is the kind of story that has you hooked and makes you drop everything.

This was a simple yet very enjoyable comedy sports anime. Wonderful animation, colors, and funny characters. The development of Reiki and Langa's relationship was especially beautiful and wholesome, and especially realistic, to watch. How their bond grew stronger, and the whole dilemma of jealously, of feeling like a loser.
There were a lot of great topics in this anime. The only downside is that the ending felt a bit rushed, and that Adam guy was a total wacko who?? Punched people in the face with his board and hospitalized them for what reason??

watching how Langa dealt with the loss of his father, and following him as he worked through the grief; finding joy in skating (snow boarding) again. Reiki and Langa really brought out the best in each other, they have something beautiful that border on something more, perhaps romance, perhaps not. Anyhow, it was wholesome to watch and left a big smile on my face.
I hope there will be more animes like this in the future! I need to try skateboarding now. But it will probably take 2 years until I could pull off an olli! xD

It is midnight and I have just spent my whole day watching this masterpiece. My eyes are swollen from tears, and I can't stop gaping. This story is deep, brilliant, clever and unique. And here is why you should watch this marvelous anime.
This is actually my first anime review ever. I have watched anime since the glorious year 2012, but this is the very first time I feel like I need to make my voice heard.
When I read the name "Banana Fish" and googled it and saw a picture of a "kiss" then i thought this would be something by the likes of Free
...
Iwatobi Swim club, will say, a bunch of homoerotic high schoolers with glittering effects. I could not have been more wrong. In episode 1 I was thrown into a gang war drama set in USA.
I do not enjoy movies or animes with bullets flying and blood shedding. But already from episode 1 I was hooked. I could not stop watching. The animation is not the most spectaculat I've seen, nor the art, but something about this kept me fascinated.
The story is gripping. The characters are deep. And the metaphors? Small little details here and there makes this story genius. Well-thought. A masterpiece. The quote with the leopard, for example. It keeps going throughout the story. There is a fine red thread connecting all the little dots in this.
Our main character Ash Lynx, or Aslan Jade Callenreese, is at first a cold blooded, sharp egged, mob boss. But underneath that he was depth and color. We get to see his reasons for being and acting. And after getting a glimpse of the hell he's been through, it's incredible how he's still functioning as a human being.
Ash's relationship with Eiji is one of the most beautiful things I have seen. Like it's said in the series "On his own Ash is a wild, feral lynx, but with Eiji he is a tame cat." Eiji and Ash's love is something warm and touching. I could literally feel it over the screen. It was portrayed beautifully, and realistic. Small touch there, a glance there. It was incredible to watch the "cold blooded mob boss" develop feelings, and a feeling of home, some sort of love.
This story is deep. Touching important topics; such as how our world is ruled. Why it's ruled by money. What is more important, power or love? What power does to people. Who deserves prison? Who is the real victim? Is it right to kill if it's for revenge?
This kept me on my toes. I couldn't even concentrate on anything else. The suspense about what banana fish is was addicting. Tis story was also tragically painful at times.
SPOILER: The only thing I did not like was the ending. Will say, the last 10 minutes of this. I wish I hadn't watched them. Perhaps it wouldn't have been as 'tragically beautiful' with a happier ending, but I would've liked for the people in this to finally get some peace. Not saying what happened but. Keep this in mind if you're frail hearted. Even though I made it through 23 episodes of skull shooting, raping and drug deaths, the ending messed me up emotionally.
Though, this is still a masterpiece. The way the many characters tied together was wholesome. People changed sides, from good to bad, from bad to good. It was always intense, exciting. I love this story so much, and I will recommend it to everyone, and probably re-watch it five times.
Most of all, I love Ash and Eiji and the wonderful way they complete each other, and how they portray love. Despite different background, skin color, language and worlds, they loved each other. Despite essentially hurting each other and causing each other pain, they still loved. And I think that's just beautiful.
Other characters were incredible as well. Shorter, Blanca, well, most characters in this were well-made, thought through and realistic. I've watched a lot of animes, and a lot of time characters feel shallow, empty, or hollow. "Been there, done that" sort of. But this anime and these characters, certainly was not like this.
This story will follow me for weeks, months, years to come. This is food for thought. And I recommend every person, and alie, or robot, to watch this. This is intense, nerve wracking, awesome, gripping, and genius. Mind games deluxe.
Don't be fooled by the name. Banana Fish the anime is not tame or sweet at all. But you should watch it. If you're ready for the ride?
