While both shows may seem to have nothing in common on the first sight, their themes may be similar at times. I am mainly associating with the first and a part of the second arc in the first season of Kaiji. Both shows deal with people in different situations, push them over the limit, and see how they react to it. They are both animated by Madhouse, so the animation perfectly matches the moments. So if you enjoyed Death Parade, there is a big chance you will enjoy Kaiji, especially the first season, while the second is also very good.

Both great boxing manga, while Ashita no Joe is a true classic of the medium, Hajime no Ippo is a long, well built story, with an amazing cast of characters. - Boxing fans will enjoy both stories, since they are scientifically correct (especially Ippo) - If you know nothing about boxing, you can still read both titles since they both start from square one - The art is great, while Ashita no Joe is a very old manga, and the art is certainly different from today's standards for good, it still succeeds in creating an interesting atmosphere. For Ippo, it improves as time passes, first part is pretty lacking, but it quickly changes afterwards. Main characters are completely different in therms of behavior. When it comes to darkness, Ashita no Joe is much darker, while Ippo is a mostly bright, inspiring journey. As some final notes, I would like to say that both manga have some great anime adaptations, Ashita no Joe is fully adapted in 2 parts and 2 movies, while Ippo has 3 seasons, 1 movie and 1 OVA (around 130 episodes) and is around 40% adapted. Also, Joe is a finished manga and Ippo is still coming out. Hopefully this helped you, I just feel like it would be bad for someone who really liked one of those, to overlook the other.
