Bungou Stray Dogs 2nd Season
|
These series feature an atmosphere of somewhat mature darkness that centers around a mystery theme. Most of the main characters are male, and the aesthetic style is very similar. If you appreciated the style of Bungou Stray Dogs and wished it took the mystery theme further, give Mouryou no Hako a try. However, Bungou Stray Dogs is considerably more action-oriented and Mouryou no Hako is more dialogue-centric with horror elements.

Blood-C
|
These two series feature quite a lot of violence and bloodshed. That is quite obvious from the first few episodes of each. However, the main similarity has to do with character. The main female character in both series has two sides. The first being easygoing/happy/cute, and the other being a murderer/assailant highly skilled in combat. There are more differences between the two character "sides" in Elfen Lied, as they are more extreme. However, both are highly similar. The tone in both series can be connected as well, although Blood C isn't immediately similar to Elfen Lied. The two contain militaristic themes, and the overarching plot delves into the main characters' pasts. Of course, Blood C is building on a franchise, while Elfen Lied has a manga. Therefore, Blood C is a little lighter and more accessible in comparison.

These two series feature the overarching theme of cats! They are both colorful slice of life anime with a lighthearted feel. They also both have harem elements and the comedy usually tends to go into more of the "screwball" theme. The two are highly similar - you should watch if looking for a slice of life with some cats...

These two series have the theme of dealing in issues with philosophical implications. Things affect the series' world at large. There is a lot of character development and drama in each. In addition, they are both rendered realistically (for anime style), as characters have less exaggerated features (ie more natural shades of hair...no bright pink or green here). They are around the same length as well, to add one more similarity. Overall, they are quite similar and worth the watch.

There is a similar atmosphere in these two series. The character designs are colorful and bishoujo-influenced, and the action sequences are flashy and involve magic. Both series also contain drama as a main point, as well as action. They also take place in urban environments. They are both fantasy-based, but Nanoha takes the magical girl trope a little further than Shana. Shana is more of just a magic-based fighter rather than the traditional magical girl. Both series have extremely similar atmospheres and features. Both are worth a shot.

These two series are bishoujo, visual novel-based harems. They feature a colorful cast of characters that actually get development (some more than others) in their respective arcs. Grisaia is more fanservice and violence-heavy, though. They both contain tragedy and plot twists.

Grisaia no Kajitsu

These two series follow multiple students' lives. The art style in both, for the most part, is bishoujo...Which, you guessed it, means they have harem elements. However, they are most similar for having a hint of mystery rather than just vapid (or simplistic) slice of life. To be warned, however, Grisaia has a lot more outright fanservice and violence, while Little Busters has little to none of those things. Both of these anime keep an air of drama to them, through character development and interpersonal relationships. They also have that clean, crisp artistic style found in a lot of vn-based anime.

These series both focus on harem elements. They can have some comedy and light-hearted moments, but something darker with a hint of mystery lies underneath. Grisaia, I think, is a little more dark than H2O. But they are both satisfying mystery-type harems IF you enjoy these genres/themes.

These are two series about mangaka. Both feature young-looking girls as manga artists. Manga Mitai na Koi Shitai is a shoujo series and focuses more on romance with a female demographic in mind, whereas Comic Studio is more seinen and focuses on moe, a little ecchi, and an older demographic. Comic Studio is more "mature" than Manga Mitai as well.

First and foremost are both from Production IG. Real Drive and GitS both deal with levels of consciousness and technological settings. Even though the technology can be seen as cold and unnatural, there is a poignant emotional element in both series. They also both have the concept of "diving". Deadman Wonderland and BTOOOM! are similar because they both feature a character who is thrust into a game of survival. The surrounding characters also have back stories as to why they ended up in the game. Both anime deal with death and psychological issues. Sometimes, it is hard to tell the characters' intentions. Many characters have ulterior motives to getting what they want. There is a lot of action in each, and they can get rather violent. They both have a similar style and feel, and the survival games in both give the anime a sense of danger from episode to episode.

Both anime feature a supernatural "force" that helps people overcome their struggles. As opposed to Shinigami no Ballad, xxxHOLiC has more comedy and of course a longer story, but I think that with Shinigami no Ballad only having six episodes, it livens up the subject matter and adds to the mystery. xxxHOLiC does, though, have have similar serious moments as those in Shinigami no Ballad. Overall, if you are a fan of dramatic or supernatural stories with a touch of Japanese spiritualism, you would probably enjoy these series.
