Cute magic girls going through creepy moments, that's what I signed up to, that's what I got :D
The art is pretty cool, I like the aesthetic in general. The plot is not brilliant but it delivers one or two clever moments (this is not fuckin Code Geass, leave the author alone lol), it's not a bad plot either, it sure has some corny moments but... meh, I've seen worse. The main thing keeping our eyes on the screen are the countless torture scenes and the mix of cuteness and creepiness. There are a lot of tension and it works most of the time, so it's
...
entertaining, although I feel like they wasted their best graphical horror moments in the first few episodes. There is a lot of sadness too but we can't always relate to it.
Personally I really like the main character. The way she seem so fragile and is trying to stand up really resonated with me somehow.
The anime is far from perfect, my main complaints being the fact that they present too many characters and only develop a very few of them to a satisfying level. This leads to some boring moments.
The OP is really cool, I like the animation and the song (there's also a really cool moment when the villain sings the OP in one of the last few episodes and is very powerful and unexpected).
The ED is also really cool, the mix of animation and live-action looks very interesting.

I'm not sure why this is listed on MAL, but as the name says, those are recaps posted on youtube by the official channel avex pictures.
The first one covers episode 1 to 5 of the show, and is narrated by Kizuna Ai so it's very fun to watch.
The second one covers episode 1 to 10 and is narrated by Aya's creepy older brother. Nothing against him, but I wish it was Kizuna Ai again T_T
Incredibly, I happened to stop watching the anime at episode 10 some years ago and now I found out about those recaps, so it was a very good way to remember
...
the plot and the characters.
yaayyyy \o/
(someone posted the link bellow, it's in order. But it's in japanese and I can't add subtitles)

It's somehow comforting to think that, whether we love it or hate it, the rebuild series is accomplishing it's (assumed) goals.
But I can't judge it based on the meta interpretation that I and my fellow evangelion fans take away from it (unless, of course, Anno himself sits down to an interview and tells us that he was really trying to subvert the series and open our eyes once again).
I don't like the tone of this new instalment, or what happened to the characters. But I sure will keep wondering if all of that is true... if he was really trying to mean something deep with
...
all the cheesiness presented to us.
Is this really a huge mockery on the otaku community and anime industry?
I want to believe that it is.

You see, depression was one of the main themes in the whole classic series, even the first recap (Death) wasn't just a compilation of episodes, it was made in a way that made clear that the most important thing to be taken away from the anime was the mental state of the characters in order to prepare us to the End of Evangelion.
Complaining about Shinji's cannon "manbitching" or whatever the posers are talking is ridiculous. He wasn't always running away and crying to fill the spaces where there was no Mecha fights. He was always crying and complaining because he WAS SAD, the show was
...
sad. He was breaking down. If you kept closing your eyes to it through 26 episodes and two whole movies that's at least odd.
When I started watching Evangelion I came ready to hate Shinji and hate Asuka because I always heard the fans talking so much shit about them, and when I finally got to see them, I just couldn't hate them at all. How can you hate someone that is suffering so much? How can't you empathize with someone that is always asking for help?
It's almost cruel to think that there are actually fans that get to watch this reboot like "whew, finally that guy shut the fuck up so I can watch some giant robots fighting".
And speaking of giant robots fighting, I have to say that they managed to spoil a lot of the tension, fear and violence that we felt while they were battling the angels...
Like, even the first fight that used to be so brutal lost a lot of it's impact due to the omnipresent obnoxious soundtrack and somehow a lot of the classic aggressive visuals don't seem to blend with this polished animation (like, when they briefly go back to the classic series color-scheme and aesthetic by showing Misato's over-saturated face, or when the screen turns red after a critical attack). Personally, the old one always made me feel very scared when they got hit by the enemy, for example.
With all that said, it's (somewhat) comprehensible. The old series told it's story and finished in End of Evangelion, we have seen the darkness, the violence, and all that. The new one clearly is lacking one of the layers that made the core of the series and peaked in EoE. But now that they done that, they are most likely aiming for a complete different ending, in tone and plot. I'm guessing a more popular and understandable one.
I have a problem with the tone of this movie, but it doesn't take away my enjoyment. Let's just keep in mind that the good old one is still there to be watched whenever we want.

Summarizing: the manga itself was written in an episodic way, making it really easy to take... say, 2 chapters and adapt to anime. Hell, they didn't even had to make it chronologically, just take two really cool stories and adapt it...
But no, they choose to make TWO 10 minutes episodes that can't even cover 1 chapter properly and the result is... bad.
I mean, the voice acting is really good, the sound track is very cool, but it's not worth it. I enjoyed cause I just finished the series and it was refreshing to go over some plot points again, the animation is not bad, and
...
the ost is nice so it wasn't all that bad for me, but as I said, it's not worth it
For me, this anime looks like a bonus that could come along with the manga so we can have a little fun hearing the voice acting of some classic scenes (and if you think about it, it could be much better anyway)
I'm not sure why they decided to make this in the first place, cause the result is not satisfying for most people who enjoyed the manga and it doesn't tell a proper Tomie story, specially to a new audience (I read some reviews of people that didn't read the manga and it's just sad).

short version: beautiful world. distant characters.
long version:
I read someone saying that we feel like we are part of the story in some of the reviews so I decided to give my opinion about that.
Yes, I agree on that, but... personally I felt this because they put more effort into world-building than character development. I wouldn't go as far as some people and say that the characters doesn't have a proper personality, they do! But, most of the time they are sooooo distant that we can't really reach them.
The episodes plot seem to wander through this magical world and the events never seem to have much
...
importance. I don't know exactly how to feel about this, but I guess it's like... a small fairy tale. It's the story of a girl, with a dark past, who is bought by an ancient mage and learn how to love and live, being saved and saving others along the way. That's about as far as it gets. It accomplishes this, and leave most of us feeling like we were part of this world, but we never really got to know none of the characters! They doesn't have much screen-time and when we see them they just stare at us in silence. It's mysterious but it might get sort of boring, if you allow me to say.
I also feel like they rush over promising plot concepts, and it feels like such a waste. They often try to talk about many things, but the show itself seems to get bored of it quickly and then just drops it and moves on... and it keeps doing it until it ends.
