Haikara-san ga Tooru Movie 1: Benio, Hana no 17-sai

both glass mask and haikara-san are a remake of older anime, adapted with more beautiful animation, but staying true to the touching writing of the original manga. both are romantic stories that follow an independent feisty girl who just can't get that one annoying guy out of her head, even though she doesn't like him (sure you don't, girl) from episode 25 in glass mask, it shows a story called 'heavenly light'. this story in particular shows a lot of aspects that are similar to haikara-san, it both being about young women with strong personalities during the taishou period.

they're not exactly alike in plot, but the overall feel of the series is quite similar. they are both loud sparkly colored and lots of dumb yelling, but can get surprisingly dark for something that looks so child friendly. they both have a massive chaotic neutral energy

both maincharacters seem a spineless push-over, but through sheer (bad) luck, they end up being the top dog of their society

though lostorage has more of a card system, angelic layer is very similar in avatar battle system and also focuses on the battlers' personal struggles.

it took me a while to realize just why this surreal magical feeling was so appealing to me. but at episode 4, it struck me. The good witch of the west features a medieval world with magic, alliances and rules much similar to maoyuu. in both series, the characters are very appealing and the animation and landscapes are done beautiful justice. and most important: the simple but true love between the 2 main characters. slowly trying to discover just how they are feeling and occasionally fighting any unwanted suiters. (I still have to see Yuusha go as far as dressing up as a girl for her sake, though.) Though Roux is a lot more bookish then Yuusha, they both feel the uncertainties of only adding trouble to their girls by being around. and both Mao and Firiel are feisty red heads that talk big when they're actually insecure. if you're looking for a beautiful and magical medieval love story, you need not look further!

the moment I saw Hyobu, he fitted right into the league of extremely evil bishounen Lelouch and Raitou. and he got his very own Suzaku too! confident, arrogant and style. is he really the good guy? a feeling of excitement and terror. supernatural eye powers. rebels. Both Geass and this brand new ESP series have it all!
