10 - Favorites. These define what I love about the medium to the point that I can forgive any potential flaws. They have my undivided attention when watching, whether because of technical mastery, thematic brilliance, deft writing & directorial wit, or combination of the such. There is a thin line between 8s, 9s, and 10s, and I can only say that there is something about 10s which speak to me on a deep personal level, by way of acting as extensions of myself, embodying concepts or life lessons I find important.
9 - High marks in both personal appeal and execution, these are stories I can't stop thinking about, and they continue to influence my life or philosophy in some ways. If peeled back and analyzed, there are enough subtleties in these stories to fill books. Books I would be glad to revisit and appreciate anytime.
8 - The beginning of my favorites list, these are what I would point to as the best representatives of their types. They set out to achieve a specific aesthetic, message, and/or writing goal, and not only are they masterful at these things, I deeply cared about both the intent and methods to fulfill said intent. Seeing as this would be considered the "bottom" of my favorites list, I tend to value them more from a conceptual perspective, in spite of minor gripes like short length, lack of a solid ending, or a tired trope here and there.
7 - Amazing anime I was thoroughly captivated by. Got enough emotional investment out of me to be a real contender for my favorites of all time. Excellent overall, and only held back by certain subjective issues.
6 - Solid, satisfying shows that are quality enough to occasionally pander to my idea of a favorite, and while they're missing some key ingredients to live up to that title, I am able to fully engage with & respect the content presented here.
5 - My bare minimum of what I would consider "good," passable entertainment. They're endearing, fun, and I personally admire their ambition, but I don't care about them, nor do I believe they could ever strike a deeper chord with me.
4 - Anime that are irreconcilably flawed in ways I cannot ignore, but despite this, I somehow enjoyed myself. Whether that's because of their awfulness or a sincere positive feeling may vary.
3 - Anime I didn't care for in the slightest. These simply weren't made for me, and that's okay. Unlike 2s or 1s, I am much more able to provide perfectly rational reasons why someone else would love it.
2 - Awful shows that have practically nothing going for them. I consider these to be as close to "objectively bad" as possible, and as such, I treat them with disdain & disrespect.
1 - Anime I hated to their core. It would have to offend me or demonstrate some greater issues with the medium for me to think this low of it.
