deeply comforting post-apocalyptic vibes. that sounds like an oxymoron, especially considering the climax sequence, but i nevertheless felt deeply immersed in this world to the point where i wanted to live in it before remembering that it is nothing but a fucked up version of my own. go out and enjoy nature, and protect it, is the message pretty much but how beautifully told. nausicaa has a lot of character, i like her.

the best out of the trilogy of pre-release shorts associated with Blade Runner 2049. the animation is exciting. the world of the original is captured so well that i'm tempted to say i want more of this, i want to stay in this vision for longer. the themes of what it means to be human, including the existence of a soul are lightly brushed upon while hinting at deeper answers (the best that a short can hope for if we're being realistic). Watanabe was a great choice to portray this window into the Blade Runner world and i enjoyed it a lot.

the prose is most effective when dealing with visual imagery or describing a visual scene, hardly surprising coming from the mind of a mangaka who likely thinks in images. the emotional moments are hardhitting even if you try to be a cynic and close yourself off to them and despite all the narrative problems up to this point. it's a mess of a story, but centering it on the emotional development (and surrender of dreams) of a young man torn between so many influences is the best choice these novels ever make. itachi is a good character, unrealistically powerful but soberingly emotional and deeply confused.
