Never would I have thought that a sports manga would be this interesting.
Blue lock exceeded my expectations. I expected it to be around a 6-7 because it was a sports manga, and a football one at that, which I personally do not find very interesting.
Story - 8/10
The premise is fairly simple, a group of the 300 best strikers in Japan are thrown in a training facility to root out the weak and train the strong to make the best striker Japan has ever seen. However, the story is executed very well, but is still lacking in depth.
Art - 9/10
The art is phenomenal, with each match
...
seeming so real, and the art perfectly conveys exactly what is happening, and with a supernatural-ish twist on some certain points. Everything down to the eyes of the character are so well drawn, to the point where I can recognize a character with the simplest designs just by seeing their eyes.
Character - 8/10
Since the main cast is moderately sized, we don't get to know too much about them, as the manga is very fast paced and there isn't much chapters as of now. But... when the characters shine, they do an amazing job at it. I've become attached to so many of the characters now, and I hope I will continue to do so. Yoichi accepting his egotism and prioritizing himself over others is a breath of fresh air in manga.
Enjoyment - 10/10
This is the first time in a long time I binge-read a really good manga. The matches are enjoyable, the way everything plays out, and even Yoichi's character himself make this manga one of my tops.
Overall - 9/10
It's not perfect, but it's pretty damn close. Haven't been this excited in a while.
