Both of these series present themselves on the outside (animation wise) as your typical cute girl show but are actually both dark shows with a particular focus on the psychological horror element.

Both of these series are set in a feudal medieval setting and are also both fall under as an isekai in a technical sense since the protagonist in their respective series travel from modern era Japan. The protagonists themselves are both high school girls who end up as a priestess in their respective world each with a set of travelling companions in their quest to save their world. Both series have a fair amount of romance mixed in with a dark setting not shying away from death although Inuyasha has more of a darker tone than Fushigi Yuugi.
