This I genuinely one of the worst if not THE worst manga I have ever read. The story makes completely no sense and I hated zera with a passion.The violence isn’t even the main reason why I disliked reading this. The romance between the robot and girl was probably the most unrealistic and appalling thing I have ever seen. This manga is full of plot holes. Why kidnapping girls was the main motive of that club? How come the police didn’t do shit even after so many people were killed? Why was jaciob obsessed with zera? How did a simple club turn into such a ... dark cult? I could go on and on about why I hate this manga. I genuinely wouldn’t recommend this to anyone even if it’s just 9 chapters long. But in the end of the day if you like this manga it’s fine but I despise this.

Just caught up with this manga today and it’s great so far

Story
So the story of this manga is nothing like I haven’t seen before but it isn’t generic either. I would say it’s similar to all you need is kill in that aspect where the characters try to break a loop. So far the story isn’t anything special but I believe it will get better as the manga continues

Art is definitely the best aspect of this manga and the main reason I started reading this series in the first place. It’s absolutely phenomenal I would say. I might be exaggerating but I ... definitely love the art style and I would go as far as to say it’s just as good as oyasumi punpun in this aspect.

Characters
We haven’t gotten to know a lot about the characters yet to give them a proper rating but so far I like all characters. None of them were annoying and each had thier own role to play in the show. Peito is a great protagonist and her character has a lot more opportunity to grow and I can’t wait to see more of her

Yes it’s 2021 and I am writing a review about Elfen lied. Elfen lied is an anime which you will either hate or love and for me it’s the latter. Nowadays I only see bad stuff said about Elfen lied and it’s kinda sad cause Elfen lied has impacted me more than any other piece of media has. No one will probably even read this but I am doing this for my own satisfaction.I have read like over a 100 reviews above Elfen lied( I am being deadass here) and I have got the basic point of why people hate it or like it so ... I will be going over all of them.

I will first talk about the technical aspects:

Sound: Elfen lied has one of the best ost of all time imo. The opening song Lilium is personally my favourite anime opening of all time and the other sound tracks give off a dark creepy vibe while fits perfectly for a show like Elfen lied.

Art and animation
Elfen lied definitely doesn’t have a great animation. It’s art style is poorly aged and many might even find it repulsive. But it still isn’t that bad and for anime released in 2004 I would say it’s animation is decent.

Story
One of the biggest complaints I see about Elfen lied is that it doesn’t have a story and a plot and I highly disagree. Elfen lied does have a proper plot which revolves around Lucy who escapes from a secret facility and meets two collage students who take her in. The facility tries to find her and capture her. Ultimately as the plot proceeds we learn more about the character and the misery surrounding them. The story for Elfen lied is intriguing and although it doesn’t have a proper plot for like the first 2 episodes it does take a strong turn later on.

Characters
The cast of Elfen lied is definitely controversial. Some might come to hate all the characters while some might love them. In my opinion Lucy is the “perfect”protagonist . Perfect in the sense that Lucy resembles every character in the series in some way or the other. She resembles yuka in terms for thier love for Kouta, Nana in terms of being a diclonius and being mistreated their entire life. Kouta feels guilty for being spiteful towards his sister just before she was killed in the same way Lucy feels guilty for killing kouta’s family. Both of them then accept each other for who they are and forgive themselves. Lucy resembles Kurama in terms of having been experienced the death of a beloved in front of them and feeling helpless as they could do nothing about it. Bando is also similar to Lucy in terms of cruelty and mayu in terms of being betrayed by some you trust and loneliness. Overall the cast could have gotten a better characterisation but it still isn’t bad. Lucy is an amazing protagonist tho whose split personality also portrays how once inner side can be different from once outer personality.

Themes
“Elfen lied tries to be a lot at once “ is someone I have heard many people say amd I actually agree and disagree at the same times. Elfen lied tries to tackle bullying , child abuse , animal abuse, self acceptance,but the main theme of EL is how cruel humans can be. Lucy has been treated like a monster her entire life but it’s the people around her which are the real “monsters “. Elfen lied is explicit in it’s approach while talking these themes and doesn’t hold back which had a huge impact on me

Cons
Some more criticisms about EL are that
- “The nudity is pointless and is just fan service “
I hate fan service but Elfen lied’s nudity isn’t that. Fan Service is meant to be pleasing but Elfen lied ‘ s nudity isn’t pleasing tbh. Other than the part where kouta tries to change Lucy’s clothes, Elfen lied doesn’t have any fan service
- “ It’s too edgy”
Just because Elfen lied’s gore is on an extreme level that doesn’t make it edgy

Overall
Elfen lied does have many flaws but despite that I still love Elfen lied. It has actually had a major impact on me and has changed my life fr. Overall I feel all the criticism against Elfen lied are valid but I just think that if someone feels Elfen lied is a masterpiece, then that should be valid as well
