As someone who love the manga and is also considering reading the light novel, I will be honest, this adaptation is terrible, and even if I never had read the manga I would still think it would be bad.
It had a lot of potential, but it ended up that they removed a lot from the story and made the quality poor. The character design in the anime version, animation and composition are not making it better, and it feels like they tried to make the anime suited more for the younger audience.

I decided to watch this because:
1. There was a cat.
2. It looked like a nice slow paced slice of life that could heal my sadness for a bit.

Some episodes later I realized that this is more drama than I thought it would be. The characters are overcoming their struggles and sadness, and that theme will be present in every episode.

The only thing I disliked about this series was Mutsumi (Muu-chan) and Jirou’s interactions with the repeating topic, and that she kept interfering with his work that just made it harder for him.

Mixed Feelings
I'm going to go straight to the important part. The male mc is the toxic obsessive type of guy.
Female mc is a bit of an airhead and is very slow at noticing how he behaves and how he treats others.

Even though she's not trying to change the male mc, and that he's not improving much, the story encourages the "I can fix him" kind of situation and then his backstory shows up to make us understand and accept his behavior.
